To detest washing my hair?

Please tell me I’m not the only one?
Probably one of my most hated jobs every week is washing my hair.
I do absolutely anything I can to get out of it!
4 days of hair down, 2 days of dry shampoo and mum bun until I can pluck up the energy to wash it.
I was even just bargaining with myself that I would do it tomorrow morning instead.
It’s just tedious isn’t it.
My hair is frizzy, dry, thick, takes bloody ages to wash and then an age to dry and straighten and I just cannot be arsed after a long day of work and childcare.
It’s about shoulder length so not even particularly long but is so time consuming.
I can’t go to bed with it wet as I get an itchy scalp and it’s impossible to style in the morning when it’s dried naturally.
Please make me feel less of a minger and tell me other people wash hair once a week too.
In all fairness it never looks greasy, it takes around a week to get oily.
I just feel lazy!

I love my pixie hair :) Every time I grow it again I remember why I prefer it short!
However I dye it, so avoid washing it too often due to not wanting the dye to fade so quick either. Still can't go longer than 3 days though (sadly) or I look grotesque!

Verbena87 · 29/11/2018 20:12

My hair when it’s short needs washing every couple of days but will do 7-10 when it’s long though. I like it short but find it so much more daily maintenance.

Ollivander84 · 29/11/2018 20:34

Hate it. Ages to wash as I need to scrub scalp for 10 mins. Then around 45-60 mins to diffuse it dry

Hullabalooo · 29/11/2018 20:37

Same here!

oh god saaame. I dread to think how many hours of my lifetime have been taking up bloody washing my hair, drying it and then styling with straighteners. I have long hair, not thick but definitely not thing so it takes ages, I wash my hair daily or it just looks greasy and i can't bear the feeling of dry shampoo. I literally lopped a few inches off myself recently as the drying time was getting silly.

I regularly daydream about being able to click my fingers and have my hair 'done'. Worst of all is when you think you've finally dried your hair, turn the dryer off and then realise it just felt dry because it was hot, actually is still damp, and then you have to get the bloody thing back out and go at it again.

I think people are mentioning curls because, "My hair isn't curly, it just frizzes out into a mushroom" is often actually curly hair, and what a lot of us have gone through before finding a routine that works. My hair is lovely tight ringlets now I know what I'm doing but ten years ago it was just frizz that I had to straighten. The curly girl method is life changing.

LemonChickenThyme · 29/11/2018 21:39

@Avis7 please elaborate on your method!

OftenHangry · 29/11/2018 21:51

Butt length, now actually grateful they are not really thick.
20 min wash with all the shampooing, mask etc and 15 min dry. If I sleep with wet hair I wake up like lion after rough nigh.

I really feel for you. Maybe check out if hairdresser can help, as some suggested

Mine is thick, coarse and neither straight nor curly. It doesn’t settle into nice waves if I wash it and leave it, it just looks shit. I absolutely hate the battle every 2 days, I just can’t be arsed. As I work shifts, I wash, dry and style in the evening but it still looks a bit shit in the morning after I’ve slept on it. If I’m on a late, it still looks crap as I have to wear a shirt with a collar which causes my hair to curl and lie in weird ways.

I’ve never been able to ‘do’ my hair; it’s too thick to plait, messy buns are TOO messy, can’t get it all in one of those things you roll around and snap into place, donuts I can just get in but only by wrapping my hair around and securing it with a million Kirbys or a headband. I’ve had Brazilian blow drys but I don’t know if they become less effective over time? I’ve had 5/6 and I only got the “wow” factor with the first one. Others haven’t lasted longer than a month.

Got a hair appointment tomorrow and hoping I can get a more manageable style.

I have a dream invention. It's like an airport scanner, you step in with your arms out by your side. Press the button and hey presto you are, clean, groomed, coiffed with matching clothes on.

thighofrelief · 30/11/2018 12:01

I would also throw my dogs into the scanner.

redsummershoes · 30/11/2018 12:02

I want one of those things they have a theme parks.
all body dryers - gentle warm breeze

thighofrelief · 30/11/2018 12:04

This scanner is multi functional and does travel too, no more commuting and can go to the Maldives for the afternoon.
