To detest washing my hair?

Please tell me I’m not the only one?
Probably one of my most hated jobs every week is washing my hair.
I do absolutely anything I can to get out of it!
4 days of hair down, 2 days of dry shampoo and mum bun until I can pluck up the energy to wash it.
I was even just bargaining with myself that I would do it tomorrow morning instead.
It’s just tedious isn’t it.
My hair is frizzy, dry, thick, takes bloody ages to wash and then an age to dry and straighten and I just cannot be arsed after a long day of work and childcare.
It’s about shoulder length so not even particularly long but is so time consuming.
I can’t go to bed with it wet as I get an itchy scalp and it’s impossible to style in the morning when it’s dried naturally.
Please make me feel less of a minger and tell me other people wash hair once a week too.
In all fairness it never looks greasy, it takes around a week to get oily.
I just feel lazy!

Try going for a crop! I did and have found maintenance so much easier. Starting to grow back now after 3 years but already wondering if I'll just chop it all off again.

FTFF · 28/11/2018 22:13

My hair is a nightmare, fuzzy, frizzy, reasonably long and thick its just awful.

I do it in 2 stages. Wash it at night and blast it dry then go to bed and straighten it in the morning. This seems to make it last a bit longer between washes too (I've no idea how/why)

cstaff · 28/11/2018 22:53

Brazilian blow dry all the way. I have mine done the last 3.5 months and it definitely takes the hard work out of washing and drying your hair. I will probably get it done again before Xmas.

cstaff · 28/11/2018 22:57

Also with the Brazilian the rain amazingly does not make it frizzy

PaintingOwls · 28/11/2018 22:58

I'm the same and sometimes I wish I could shave it all off

thighofrelief · 28/11/2018 23:08

My sister and I compete to see who can go the longest between washes. I'm currently winning at 8 days. It looked ok but felt like a haystack with all the dry shampoo. I have a new trick though. Use elvive low shampoo, just once. No conditioner then put argan oil from mid ears down and tie it up. No frizz, no expanding hair.

PinkBuffalo · 28/11/2018 23:10

I have very thick hair and always had trouble drying it.
But then several years ago now, I had it cut proper short! Best thing ever. Now just wash my hair in the shower every morning, vigorous rub with a towel and it dries really quickly now. No styling, just a quick brush and off to work.
Also love that I don't get knots in my hair anymore. My hair was always prone to knots.
I know not everyone wants short hair, but I'm so glad I did all those years ago (I was in my 20s when I had enough of my hair & got the chop)

I have severe tiredness due to chronic illness and it is my worst thing ever.

I have to gather every strength then nap afterwards. Drying is definitely the worst.

I don't know how you only do it once a week op. You must have a itchy head and feel a bit grim some days. Just see it as something you HAVE to do.

MarcieBluebell · 28/11/2018 23:15

I was soooo close to chopping it all off the other night but didn't want a cold head!

redsummershoes · 28/11/2018 23:17

yabu
just get on with it and do it.
hair can stink smell really unpleasant if not washed at least twice a week.
wrap it in a towel after washing for 20 min - easier to dry and style if it's not too wet.

redsummershoes · 28/11/2018 23:19

tbh faffing about with dry shampoo is worsethan washing properly...

Bigonesmallone3 · 28/11/2018 23:21

I'm with u, bane of my life, I have long hair and only wash it twice a week, I'm blonde so dry shampoo works a treat on my hair..

nutellalove · 28/11/2018 23:25

I feel the same. I invested in the GHD hairdryer recently though and now my hair takes half the time to dry and is no longer a frizzy mess after I've dried it. Would highly recommend it - still despise hairwashing but it's slightly less painful now

dorisdog · 28/11/2018 23:28

Oily hair here :-( I wash it everyday in the shower. It's quite fine so doesn't take too long to dry. But I envy my friends who can get away with weekly or every-three-day washes.

Orlandointhewilderness · 28/11/2018 23:28

Mine is long, thick and curly. I was it every other day and have never dried it - I towel dry, brush and plait. Perfect! It's also naturally red so I always get remarks about it.

GivingBloodFeelingGreat · 28/11/2018 23:28

I only wash my hair once a week as well.

I should add that I had a perm in August and it's slowly starting to come out now Sad However when I wash my hair all the curls come back.

Tumbleweed101 · 28/11/2018 23:30

Wash it every day or it feels horrible. But I only leave it to dry naturally which takes about half hour. It’s usually dry when I leave for work. So then it’s just brush and go. I don’t do anything else with it.

IrenetheQuaint · 28/11/2018 23:36

Yes to all of this!

LoudJazzHands · 28/11/2018 23:36

What's the secret to dry shampoo?

When I try it my hair still looks greasy, but with a dull, powdery finish to boot.

AlexaAmbidextra · 29/11/2018 00:14

I loathe doing mine. No idea why as it’s really well-behaved, takes about 45 mins to shower and blow dry and looks great when newly done. I just hate doing it.

Lovingbenidorm · 29/11/2018 00:27

I wash mine everyday. If you really can’t bear washing it I’d suggest a crop!

llangennith · 29/11/2018 00:41

I hate washing my hair because it doesn't look any better after washing, just cleaner. If I had straight sleek hair I'd wash it loads and enjoy my locks.

citiesofbismuth · 29/11/2018 00:41

Have it cut short. I love having short hair, it takes just a few minutes to dry and style.

SuchAToDo · 29/11/2018 01:03

If it's the actual chore of washing it that you hate and if it takes a week to get greasy, then mid way through your week...maybe day 3 or day 4, why not treat your self to a wash and blow-dry (you don't have to choose an expensive salon, just a cheap local one would do)...that way you get your hair freshened up and blow-dryed and looking great😀

SuchAToDo · 29/11/2018 01:08

LoudJazzHands

You have to apply it down your parting then.make other partings and apply it along those and then do a light misting on hair for any oils that is on your hair length...then rub your hair as though you are scrubbing your hair and scalp ....then brush to get out the residue....also apply it if you can just before the oil starts appearing...e.g if oily hair starts in day three, the spritz some in your hair on day 2, so that when the oil comes out of your scalp it will meet the dry shampoo and be soaked up leaving the rest of the hair clean and oil free

Took me ages to figure out dry shampoo, when I first used it my hair would look powdery and feel grumpy, but then I realised I was using it wrong...now when I use it my hair looks freshly washed and you can't see any powdery residue
