To detest washing my hair?

Please tell me I’m not the only one?
Probably one of my most hated jobs every week is washing my hair.
I do absolutely anything I can to get out of it!
4 days of hair down, 2 days of dry shampoo and mum bun until I can pluck up the energy to wash it.
I was even just bargaining with myself that I would do it tomorrow morning instead.
It’s just tedious isn’t it.
My hair is frizzy, dry, thick, takes bloody ages to wash and then an age to dry and straighten and I just cannot be arsed after a long day of work and childcare.
It’s about shoulder length so not even particularly long but is so time consuming.
I can’t go to bed with it wet as I get an itchy scalp and it’s impossible to style in the morning when it’s dried naturally.
Please make me feel less of a minger and tell me other people wash hair once a week too.
In all fairness it never looks greasy, it takes around a week to get oily.
I just feel lazy!

a weird spiral parting at back of my hair where my hair seems to grow out in a sort of fan......I wonder if this is more common with thick curly or wavy hair? Everyone I know with straight hair doesn't have this and their hair sits properly!

I have straight hair.
cow lick and double crown.
I need to wear my hair longish or it looks ridiculous without adding a shit ton of product.

picklemepopcorn · 29/11/2018 07:47

Has anyone said, try washing with conditioner only?

It sounds like you hair is quite dry and tends to frizz so the curly girl method is your friend.

IrenetheQuaint · 29/11/2018 08:04

I tried washing my very thick hair with conditioner only and it felt horrid and grubby afterwards. I only wash it once a week so I think it needs a proper wash.

Izzy24 · 29/11/2018 08:22

@Charlottejade89
Yes, it really does- hard to believe I know! I was very sceptical the first time and even more so the second time but I’ve been doing it for at least six months now and it’s been fine.

Both my cutter and colourist say my hair is in better condition.

Hope it works for you too!

hairwashhatred · 29/11/2018 08:59

So spent ages washing and drying last night.
Had to straighten it this morning as it was kinky and frizzy.
Did the school run in the rain and now it looks worse than it did before I washed it.
This is why I hate wasting my time!

OP - seriously - what shampoo are you using? Mine used to turn into an enormous disgusting circle at any hint of rain. Now it doesn't.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 29/11/2018 10:47

My hair is a bastard too and I hate washing and drying it. But my scalp gets so greasy that I need to wash it every 2-3 days or it starts to smell bad. I tried the Brazilian blow dry but it did bugger all for my hair and left me with a persistent patch of scalp eczema.

picklemepopcorn · 29/11/2018 10:52

It should be a silicone free conditioner.

Heatherjayne1972 · 29/11/2018 10:55

Chop it all off then...
Or just never bother washing it at all

Actually I do sympathise I’ve got a lot of wild hair It goes mad unless I condition it to death

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 29/11/2018 10:59

Get a babyliss big hair OP it makes drying soo much easier!
I do mine every other day.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 29/11/2018 10:59

Or embrace your curls maybe?

Snog · 29/11/2018 11:00

Go to a blow dry bar OP and let someone else take the strain

thighofrelief · 29/11/2018 11:01

I read an article by a woman who had nightmare, shit hair. I promise I'm not a hair and makeup wanker but I was so tired of my hair becoming a disgusting circle at any hint of weather.

She said it's about packing moisture into your hair so it doesn't drink it from rain/humidity. I switched to sulfate free/SLS free shampoo. There are 2 in Tesco that i know of. L'Oréal Elvive Low is £5-£7 depending on offers. There's one called Olive Ors which is aimed at black people - that one is too heavy for me but if your hair is even worse than mine you could see.

You wash it once, not the rinse and repeat. Then put oil from mid ears down and my hair does not expand in the weather any more.

thighofrelief · 29/11/2018 11:03

For the oil there's one in Tesco Argan oil about £5, an egg cup full and apply from roots up not from scalp down.

yorkiemummy · 29/11/2018 11:03

YANBU I hate washing my hair because it takes all day to dry it, I wash it in the morning and it's so thick it's nighttime before it's dry and I can straighten it, can't consider using a hairdryer as it ends up like a bush, I wash it now once a week on my day off as if it's up for work it doesn't dry at all.

hairwashhatred · 29/11/2018 11:07

I am using an anti dandruff shampoo as I get weepy patches on my scalp if I don’t.
Conditioner wise I’m using a tigi bedhead conditioner. The moisturising one. It’s so soft and shiny but still really frizzy as soon as I go outside. Even if it’s just humid not raining. In fact I’d say it gets links rather than frizzes up.

starkid · 29/11/2018 11:10

I wash mine every 2-3 days, with dry shampoo having to be used on the last day as it's short so does get greasy by then. Mine really doesn't take long to wash and dry (it's a pixie cut) I'm just lazy Grin

thighofrelief · 29/11/2018 11:13

OP it's the AD shampoo that's fucking up your hair. Try an oil on your scalp then wash with L'Oréal elvive low.

IHeartKingThistle · 29/11/2018 11:17

Oh God I HATE washing my hair. I wash it about twice a week but not always that much. Luckily I have an excuse which is that I have a vibrant and expensive copper colour put on every 6 weeks which would fade terribly if I washed it all the time.

That's not the real reason. The real reason is that I hate getting wet!

piscis · 29/11/2018 11:41

I hate it soooo much as well.
I have to wash mine twice a week, otherwise it will look dirty and I'll get an itchy scalp. Mine is not very long either but still hate it. I always wish there was a new fashion of shaved heads in woman or something like that, I will totally go for it, what a waste of time!

citiesofbismuth · 29/11/2018 13:08

Why do people have long hair if they don't like it? It's not compulsory. You don't have to go full pixie, just collar length or keep it longer on top.

Magicpaintbrush · 29/11/2018 13:12

It's a pain in the arse. I wash it every other day and hate it, it's tedious. But I feel the same way about putting on my make up.

There are three options: 1 - leave it to stagnate and be a minger
2 - grit your teeth and just wash it
3 - shave your head.

citiesofbismuth · 29/11/2018 13:39

Nobody needs to shave their head. It's possible to have shorter, easier to manage hair without going super short or shaved.

Having shorter hair won't result in women spontaneously combusting or anything.

SugarToothbrush · 29/11/2018 16:37

To those who hate washing, straightening and styling hair... why not cut most of it off? Have a crop or a stylish pixie. There's no reason to have long hair.

My hair is bobbed, it's as short as my potato features can support, but it's still very thick and still hate dealing with washing and styling it.

I think someone mentioned just loving your curls and, lol, no curls just triangular head thick hair with an aurora of frizz if not blow dried and styled. Like I love my hair when it's dry and fancy, I just hate the process of getting there.

LoudJazzHands · 29/11/2018 16:42

@SuchAToDo thank you for the advice - I've been doing it wrong :D

I've also grabbed the wrong tin and applied dry shampoo instead of hairspray.
