To detest washing my hair?

Please tell me I’m not the only one?
Probably one of my most hated jobs every week is washing my hair.
I do absolutely anything I can to get out of it!
4 days of hair down, 2 days of dry shampoo and mum bun until I can pluck up the energy to wash it.
I was even just bargaining with myself that I would do it tomorrow morning instead.
It’s just tedious isn’t it.
My hair is frizzy, dry, thick, takes bloody ages to wash and then an age to dry and straighten and I just cannot be arsed after a long day of work and childcare.
It’s about shoulder length so not even particularly long but is so time consuming.
I can’t go to bed with it wet as I get an itchy scalp and it’s impossible to style in the morning when it’s dried naturally.
Please make me feel less of a minger and tell me other people wash hair once a week too.
In all fairness it never looks greasy, it takes around a week to get oily.
I just feel lazy!

You can get an extra day by throwing a hat on in shit weather 🤣

itsthemenopausenotme · 29/11/2018 01:30

I have very curly hair down to my nipples Grin I wash it once a week too, mainly because I'm losing so much hair at the moment (menopause related or thyroid not sure) and I HATE the feeling of loose hair in my skin, round my fingers etc, it makes me cringe. Plus I get scared by the handful of hair I lose every time I wash it. It also takes forever to dry, even though it's thinner these days. I just wear it in a messy bun most of the time.

Milliy · 29/11/2018 01:35

I do it every day and it is something I love. Like having a makeover every day

TheDowagerCuntess · 29/11/2018 01:45

How funny, I didn't realise this was such a chore for other people, too.

I hate it. I also have thick, coarse, frizzy hair that needs to be tamed into submission. It's just such a boring, time-consuming task.

I wash it every other day, and may occasionally push it out one more day, but it's so prone to dryness, that there's no chance of it looking greasy in that time.

I've also only found one brand that actually makes it look decent, so combined with it being a total chore - it's bloody expensive, as well.

I have to admit - I have never smelled dirty hair on someone else. How close do you have to be to smell someone's hair? Maybe my sense of smell isn't as powerful as some people's.

SenecaFalls · 29/11/2018 01:47

I don't enjoy it either, which is why I treat myself to a salon blow dry every now and then.

alreadyinchristmasmood · 29/11/2018 06:06

Another one here. Thankfully my salon offers a monthly blow dry card that includes 8 blowdrys for £150. I happily pay that. I don't even have shampoo in the house.

HammerToFall · 29/11/2018 06:10

I wash mine on a night, leave to dry naturally then style the next morning. It breaks the tedium up!

Onestep2 · 29/11/2018 06:11

I feel ya. Hate hate HATE washing and drying my hair.

Usually once a week if I can get away with it. Have long thick hair! Usually washed on a weds/Thursday can do straight, then curly 2 days then half up, then back comb and dry shampoo in a bun for the rest!!

Clionba · 29/11/2018 06:11

To those who hate washing, straightening and styling hair... why not cut most of it off? Have a crop or a stylish pixie. There's no reason to have long hair.

BertieBotts · 29/11/2018 06:22

My aussie friend highly recommends an undercut if you want to keep the length but lose some bulk.

I keep mine short in theory, except I can't be arsed to go to the hairdresser either so it's now collar length and I've been putting off going because I can never stand all the "Ooh that's brave! Are you sure?" comments.

theredjellybean · 29/11/2018 06:28

I hate it too.. Thick, wavy curls that frizz badly.
I have to use pre wash treatment, ctgen wash, conditioner, leave in towel for about an hour, then serum then blow dry.
I am down to doing it once every 5-6 days.
If I win the lottery I am having someone come and do it fir me daily

Hidingtonothing · 29/11/2018 06:35

I hate it too, mine is long and used to be thick (although coming out in handfuls now, thanks menopause!) but still takes ages to dry. It's the washing and the drying for me, we have no shower so have to rinse with a jug and by the time I've faffed around with that I really cba to dry it as well. I really want a pixie cut but I'm short and fat so am worried I will resemble a snowman with a little round head on a big round body Blush

QuickChatChange · 29/11/2018 06:39

Oh god I'm the same! I have a hair dresser appointment at 2:30 today (first one in 18 months Blush) and it's needs washing before i go. I'd die of embarrassment if they saw it in the state it's in now but I just cannot be bothered 😩

madcatladyforever · 29/11/2018 06:41

Definitely hate it, it's very long, thick and straight and takes a month od sundays to dry. If I use a hairdryer it ends up looking a bit "mad".

MiniTheMinx · 29/11/2018 06:42

Another one here with thick coarse wavy hair. I hate washing my hair. If I leave it to dry it can still be damp 24 plus hours later. I think the thing is for me is that the time spent on it doesn't pay off. Its not rewarding to spend an hour drying and styling it to then find any moisture or rain returns it to it's natural prestyled frizzy state. And I agree with the poster who said "john Freida hasn't met my hair"

I wash it twice a week. It never gets greasy. I wish I could go short but I have a weird spiral parting at back of my hair where my hair seems to grow out in a sort of fan......I wonder if this is more common with thick curly or wavy hair? Everyone I know with straight hair doesn't have this and their hair sits properly!

Izzy24 · 29/11/2018 06:58

Hate it too - but I thought it was only me!

I only wash in conditioner now - think I saw it suggested somewhere here. Didn’t think it would work but it does. My hair (long, wavy) is now in much better shape and

I only wash it every two weeks

And no, it definitely doesn’t smell!

CarolsSecretCookieRecipe · 29/11/2018 06:59

Another hairwash hater here. Well, the drying/straightening part.

Until last week, I had a long, frizzy, coarse, dry, unmanagable & knotty mess. The only time it looked decent was just after a visit to the hairdresser, and even she moaned about the drying time it needed.

I finally felt brave enough to get it chopped really short, almost a pixie. To be honest, I've got mixed feelings about it now; it's definitely easy to wash and dry - I just comb it into place now, a bit of product and a 2 second wave of the hairdryer. But I feel sort of naked without all my hair, my husband hates it, and worst of all - I look like my mum :(

Rainatnight · 29/11/2018 07:02

Would it working you got one of those Brazilian straightening treatments?

It sounds like a massive chore. I have ridiculous straight fine hair that dries in about two minutes. I've always hated t but I'll try to appreciate it now!

fieryginger · 29/11/2018 07:10

I hate it too. Love letting it dry naturally in the summer, even if it looks awful, I love how cooling it is.

I keep it long in the summer (which is stupid as it's like wearing a scarf) and shorter in the winter, specifically so it takes less time to dry.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 29/11/2018 07:11

I only dry and straighten mine on the weekend. During the week (I wash it every day as I swim) I just tie it up in a bun whilst it's wet and don't touch it. Take it down after a few hours and it's dryish and hangs ok.

Charlottejade89 · 29/11/2018 07:13

I'm a once a week washer too! It's naturally curly and thick. I've tried having it various lengths over the years but it actually sits better and stays straighter for longer when it's long, the shorter it is and also the more you have it thinned out the frizzier it will get just to warn you lol. Izzy24 I've seen something about using only conditioner too - does it really work? I think I'm going to try it today

I trained mine to once a week as i live with it tied up unless its a special occasion. Just havent got time to wash and dry it frequently.

ILoveDaveGrohl · 29/11/2018 07:32

I wash mine everyday I love the feeling of hot water and soap on my scalp 😁

nancybelle · 29/11/2018 07:38

I hate it too and only do it once a week. Another one with thick coarse hair but can’t really get it short as it is a lot more work short and needs way more attention. Because it grows out the way a crop makes my head look like a microphone so needs 3 weekly hair cuts to keep it under control.

Feels like such a waste of time washing hair but love showering my body just hate getting my hair wet. Am now on day 8 and going to have to cave in and wash it tonight.
