To detest washing my hair?

Please tell me I’m not the only one?
Probably one of my most hated jobs every week is washing my hair.
I do absolutely anything I can to get out of it!
4 days of hair down, 2 days of dry shampoo and mum bun until I can pluck up the energy to wash it.
I was even just bargaining with myself that I would do it tomorrow morning instead.
It’s just tedious isn’t it.
My hair is frizzy, dry, thick, takes bloody ages to wash and then an age to dry and straighten and I just cannot be arsed after a long day of work and childcare.
It’s about shoulder length so not even particularly long but is so time consuming.
I can’t go to bed with it wet as I get an itchy scalp and it’s impossible to style in the morning when it’s dried naturally.
Please make me feel less of a minger and tell me other people wash hair once a week too.
In all fairness it never looks greasy, it takes around a week to get oily.
I just feel lazy!

I've got very thick unruly hair, layered to just above my shoulders I'm fine with washing it, but while I'm in the shower I'm thinking, "God, I've got to bloody dry it after". It's curly but not in a good way, can't possibly leave it to dry naturally. I usually get 3 days out of it though.

A male hairdresser who was much sought after in our area once told me that if he had to style hair like mine every he'd become a bloody lorry driver. Lovely 😆

ohhelpohnoitsa · 28/11/2018 21:29

I hate doing it too. I wouldnt mind the faff if it actually stayed smoothed or frizz-free but as soon as I get hit or ut rains ever ao slightly, I m8ght as well not have bithers with the 30 minute blow dry

splishsplashsploshsplishsplash · 28/11/2018 21:30

God, I hate washing/drying my hair (typed as I sit drying my hair). On maternity leave I managed to somehow train it to go from being washed every other day to now lasting about 4 days!

FashionFoodLaughs · 28/11/2018 21:30

Agreed a huge faff! I am saving all my Christmas money and getting a Dyson on the advice of my hairdresser to cut drying time

halfwitpicker · 28/11/2018 21:30

Wish I could go a week without washing mine

eilidh1986 · 28/11/2018 21:33

Get a Brazilian Blowdry! My hair was just likes yours until I discovered the wonders of a BB! I promise u it will naturally dry straight after washing as it was designed mainly for Afro hair!!

3catsandcounting · 28/11/2018 21:34

I'm the same with the weather, soon as it sniffs a bit of moisture in the air, it starts expanding or curling (badly)
John Frieda my arse. He's never met my hair.

Gardai · 28/11/2018 21:38

I was going to say that @Fashion. DD has very long thick hair and the dyson has turned a nightmare job into a few minute job. Also lightweight.
BUT ridiculously pricey. Had ours 2 years now and still good.

hairwashhatred · 28/11/2018 21:38

Maybe I’ll try a keratin or Brazilian blow dry treatment.
It’s currently washed and dried for the week anyway, and the mango L’Oréal actually seems to have helped! May get away without having to do a full section and straighten. Will see how it looks in the morning.
Rain forecast ALL day tho. So I’ll be a frizzy wreck by the time I’ve done the school run.

Hate, hate, hate washing my hair. Dislike the feeling of wet hair and I super dislike repetitive tasks so spending half an hour drying and styling my hair sends me bananas. All the quick hair hacks, like plaiting damp hair and just leaving it for nice soft curls just leave me looking like Professor Snape (hair too thick, doesn't dry when plaited or if my head is on a pillow). Added to it, I still have my post-baby pube fringe so even when I do make an effort there are all these random hair horns poking out. Urgh. Fuck it all.

jipjop · 28/11/2018 21:40

I was mine once a week! Im pretty good with simple up dos or plaits. I just can't bloody bearsed!

Novasglow · 28/11/2018 21:40

I have to wash and dry mine daily. It's very long but with oily skin to boot I have no choice. Couldn't feel clean otherwise!

Athena51 · 28/11/2018 21:47

I had to wash and dry my incredibly, hair tie snappingly thick wavy hair this evening and just the thought of doing it makes me feel tired. It's just below shoulder length right now and I feel like I'm about 80% hair.

I'm having a consultation with my hairdresser tomorrow and I'm just going to ask for less hair Smile

I only wash mine once or twice a week, I can't face any more as it takes FOREVER.

LoudJazzHands · 28/11/2018 21:49

Another one here. Like SugarToothbrush I don't like the feeling of wet hair. My hair is quite long (nipple length with bra ON). and I hate it touching my face or on my neck so it's always tied back/up and I hate waiting for it to be dry enough to do that.

I need to start looking for a short, easy style that will suit me.

GreenDinosaur · 28/11/2018 21:49

Wow! I thought it was just me that felt like this!

Usually Mumsnet is full of people declaring how they wash, dry and style their hair every morning with out fail and leave the house looking immaculate within half an hour of waking up. Hmm

And how disgusting those of us who don't must be.

LoudJazzHands · 28/11/2018 21:50

Oh, and my hair is quite fine. Still takes bloody ages to dry though.

Ragwort · 28/11/2018 21:53

I only do my once a week, one of the advantages of getting older seems to be that my hair doesn’t get greasy!

Nixee2231 · 28/11/2018 21:53

I have really thick hair. So thick that when I burnt off half of it with bleach noone even noticed I had bald spots because it was still a huge unmanagable frizzy hairball.

I absolutely despise washing my hair. With all the treatments I do to make it less frizzy, every time I wash my hair it’s a big drama and I have a towel on my head all day and have to go in and out of the shower to rinse/apply next treatment.

Anyhow, I bought a hair dryer that is now my most prized possession and every time I use it I cherish it and am amazed at how quickly my hair is dry. Drying my hair literally used to take 40-50 minutes. It was so slow that I gave up, waited around with a towel and went back to drying 2-3 times. Now it takes 5-10 minutes tops on low heat/low speed setting!!

The hair dryer is called Babyliss Pro Digital 6000E. I bought it here in Netherlands for about 100euros so it was a fraction of the 400 euro Dyson at the time. It comes with a diffuser and various attachments/speed and heat settings. It has a digital motor an insane fan speed so it dries your hair really fast at a low temperature which doesnt damage your hair. It also weighs half as much as Dyson.

It really changed my life so I hope its available in the UK and helps save some of you money on the Dyson.

Junkmail · 28/11/2018 21:55

OMG I feel exactly the same way and put it off as long as I can get away with it. Like a pp I have lost about 50% of the thickness of my hair recently for various reasons and this should make it easier to manage but honestly it’s still falling out and especially when I wash it which I find really triggering and which has made me loathe washing my hair even more. I used to moan about how thick and wavy and heavy it was—now I moan about how thin it’s getting! Not helped by the fact it’s so long. Honestly I keep threatening to shave it all off which I actually quite fancy trying but I think my sis would kill me if I did 😂

DennisIsABastardMan · 28/11/2018 22:03

Yep, cannot stand it! I keep it to the bare minimum, I’ve got it down to twice a week at the moment. It’s soooo boring, I hate being bent over the bath doing it with the hand held shower, equally I hate getting in the shower in the morning to do it (I do wash, just not in the shower!). And then having to style it, ugh. My hair is so fine and flat I have to blow dry it otherwise I just look awful. On the plus side I think that’s why I can get away with washing it sparingly, I can just tie it back and it still looks shiny and passable on day 3. (God I feel like a minger writing this down Grin).

OneWildNightWithJBJ · 28/11/2018 22:05

Yep, me too. The drying more than the washing. I wash it every 3 days, but have to do it in the evening as I need to sleep on it otherwise it will just be one huge ball of frizz! I blow-dry it in the winter and a quick 2 minutes with the straightener the following morning. Maybe I should invest in a decent hairdryer...

DerelictWreck · 28/11/2018 22:05

I have nightmare hair too - also has be dried (goes all strandy if left to dry naturally) and then straightened otherwise its wider than it is long!

But, a word of warning to most people is that I don't know anyone who can actually leave their hair as long as they think they can - it starts to smell to other people before you notice it...

SerenDippitty · 28/11/2018 22:06

I only wash my hair once a week too. It’s thick and slightly dry, it doesn’t really look and feel its best until about three days after washing.

fruityb · 28/11/2018 22:09

I find thinking about it a nuisance but I wash mine daily. I always think it’ll be ok when I leave it longer (every other day) but I hate having dirty hair. And it’s not even that dirty but it just looks dull and lifeless and rats taily and I don’t feel myself at all. I like having shiny clean hair. It’s not as thick as it was since I had my son two years ago so it’s slightly easier to cope with.

I do find the whole build up annoying - it needs washing, blow drying and straightening seeey fine - and it is a pain but I find the results worth it!

QuestionableMouse · 28/11/2018 22:12

What I hate most is finding random hairs stuck in my bum crack, under my boobs or in my armpits (or other places which has lead to some interesting situations)
