Is this thread reminding anyone else of The Thick Of It? “Dont say ‘Shad Cab’, it’s like saying ‘spag bol’ - it’s fuck annoy.”

Ollie!

kateandme · 28/11/2018 03:06

nope even lazier team here we just say "spag" haha

Monty27 · 28/11/2018 03:17

Maybe it's because it's ragu with spaghetti served in a bowl
It's still bollock knees to me Grin

Zoflorabore · 28/11/2018 03:18

One of my neighbours pronounces it "p-sketty" drives me mad!
Said with a light p like when you're teaching dc to read. She's 44.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 28/11/2018 06:13

For those who missed my (from Italy) post yesterday...if it has minced beef it's not Ragu. People seemed to start using the word Ragu about 20 years ago in the UK thinking it was Bolognese.
Traditional Ragu is eaten with tagliatelle/papardelle etc, yes, but it has pieces/chunks of beef/pork in it and those are not eaten with the pasta but after. The wrath of the Italian mamma (who 99.9% of the time hasn't made her own pasta either unless Jamie O is smugly passing through and wants a photoshoot)
And foody Brits get a lot more worked up about it than people here.
We don't eat either Ragu or Bolognese with tagliatelle etc because we prefer other types of pasta with them.
You've given me a good idea for a lesson though.
Like Italians all think Brits are filthy for having carpets and no bidets, I'll throw into the mix that Brits think Ragu is made with mince.

You forgot the "coffee" ...

BishopBrennansArse · 28/11/2018 16:36

Having proper sketty bollocks tonight - meatballs! Grin

SylviaAndSidney · 28/11/2018 17:13

Bishop Grin

Date when it's not a date. A date is for two people early on in a relationship or not in a relationship yet. It is not for spouses or long term boyfriends etc. If I go out for a meal with DH, it is not a date - it's a meal or night out.

Bananasinpyjamas11 · 28/11/2018 17:51

I say pasta or spaghetti but have no trouble with people saying spag bog/bowl/whatever!

Life is too short. Except for Mac n cheese... don’t say that!

Bananasinpyjamas11 · 28/11/2018 17:53

But I do think we should always say spaghetti in an Italian voice.

Because it’s a lot of fun to do accents. And life should be fun.

Heartofglass21 · 28/11/2018 17:55

Sketty Bollocks is great. I'm Italian and couldn't give a fuck what people call various pasta dishes. Just eat and enjoy.

grumiosmum · 28/11/2018 18:03

Mac n cheese annoys me as it is a recent American import to the UK.

Here we should say macaroni cheese.

However, tonight we are having Spaghetti Carbonara. Which I've never heard abbreviated. Spag Carb ??

speakout · 28/11/2018 18:08

It's called spagootie balootie in our house,

Wanttomakemincepies · 28/11/2018 18:28

I get the rage from Chester draws. Setting me on edge just writing it.

Mich0027 · 28/11/2018 18:31

My friend calls it spag bog. I love her but I want to rip her head off and force it down her throat when I hear it 🤣

dorisdog · 28/11/2018 18:31

Fab. It's now going to be called 'Sketty Bollocks' in my house. Along with the 'wish dosher' and 'roundy round big mouth.' You all don't wan't to know the scores of different names we have for our animals Grin

BeanBagLady · 28/11/2018 18:37

I would write Spag Bol for short but never SAY it.
And certainly not 'spag bowl'. That is a misheard typo, surely?

Forzaitalia · 28/11/2018 18:54

My husband calls it Spag Bog! Heathen. I must admit I do call it Spaghetti bollocknase, despite my Italian heritage......... 🤫

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 28/11/2018 18:56

We call it spag bollocks but then we are very common you know!!!

Donna1001 · 28/11/2018 19:00

I’ve never heard it called ‘spag bowl’. Wonder if it’s specific to a few regions? I’m on West Yorkshire.

We call it spag Bol, but make it with penne or fusilli, whatever I have. Spaghetti occasionally if specifically requested.

Donna1001 · 28/11/2018 19:01

*in West Yorkshire

Pastorkidneys · 28/11/2018 19:06

Adults saying chimley or my bad really gets on my tits

Runnynosehunny · 28/11/2018 19:08

I like the Americans, I'm going to start saying Mac 'n' cheese.

Umbongointhejungle · 28/11/2018 19:09

What’s a chimley!?!?!?
