There seems to be a trend for people calling spaghetti bolognese “spag bowl”......gives me the rage Angry

AIBU?!

OP posts:
Worieddd · 27/11/2018 10:47

Do you mean spag BOL op? Grin😂🙈

Birdsgottafly · 27/11/2018 10:48

"" French stick'. No, it's not a stick. It's a baguette."

"The word baguette comes from the Latin baculum which became baccheto (Italian) meaning staff or stick."

So it's correct to call it a stick if you speak English.

OP there's nothing better than Spag Bol with a nice Cab Sav.

Mominatrix · 27/11/2018 10:49

You do know that it irritates Italians to hear about Spaghetti Bolognese as they don't eat Bolognese sauce with spaghetti but with tagliatelle.

whiteonesugar · 27/11/2018 10:51

We call it Skelly Botonese because when DSD was about 6 that's what she called it and it stuck :)

purpleworms · 27/11/2018 10:54

@empmalswa its spelled bolognese rather than bolonaise

PigletJohn · 27/11/2018 10:54

spag bog

but never do it because

1)mince

  1. it's what men do who can't cook.
mostdays · 27/11/2018 10:56

Christ op, you'd hate us, in our house we deliberately mispronounce a lot of things. We have laz-AG-nee, for example.

When ds2 was little he misread pork loin as pork lion, so loin will forever be lion for us.

empmalswa · 27/11/2018 10:56

its spelled bolognese rather than bolonaise

I know. I was asking the poster who talked about what people say and what it makes it sound like.....

What really pisses me off is people called it Bolonaise - makes it sound like some kind of French dressing.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 27/11/2018 10:58

Bolognaise as an anglicised spelling irritates me slightly.

Not arsed about spag bol. Expect ‘bowl’ was an autocorrect!

redexpat · 27/11/2018 11:00

I miread the op as spag bowel. I dont want to think what that might entail. Grin

Lunde · 27/11/2018 11:00

I have heard Spag bol ... since the 1970s

ladyorangemarmalade · 27/11/2018 11:00

I want spag bol for tea now.

Kismetjayn · 27/11/2018 11:00

DH does spag bowl!! I didn't know it was a 'thing', nver heard anyone else say it before and it really irritates me!

Spag BOL makes sense, why bowl? Like a bowl of spag? What about the Bolognese part because you could have the spag with anything really. Spag bol bowl? Whyyyy?

JudasPrudy · 27/11/2018 11:01

'You do know that it irritates Italians to hear about Spaghetti Bolognese as they don't eat Bolognese sauce with spaghetti but with tagliatelle.'

Maybe they should stop being so pedantic. It's only pasta.

CharltonLido73 · 27/11/2018 11:01

I feel the same about 'mac and cheese' OP I know it's silly to get so irritated but...argh!

I know. Where's that sprung from? I hate it!

BishopBrennansArse · 27/11/2018 11:02

That's it I'm calling it sketty bollocks from now on

FranciscoGoya · 27/11/2018 11:03

Never heard 'spag bowl' - it's bol or blog in our house

DGRossetti · 27/11/2018 11:06

Bolognaise as an anglicised spelling irritates me slightly.

Anglicised ? Frenchified, surely ? Grin Anglicised would be "Bolognan spaghetti".

Hoppinggreen · 27/11/2018 11:07

How about “Mac n cheese”
Hate it, looks like it should be pronounced “macnacheese” or “macencheese”
Very annoying

thinkful · 27/11/2018 11:07

I've heard people say spag bowl and write spag bowl (instead of spag bol) and it irks me a little too even though I try not to judge people's spelling, grammar, dialect or any of that.

WhoTookTheCookie · 27/11/2018 11:07

@ShotsFired Grin

Missingstreetlife · 27/11/2018 11:08

There is a trend for one bowl meals e.g. Whole food bowl
Think ppl have got mixed up

Racecardriver · 27/11/2018 11:08

I’m Australian. The white Australians call it spag Bol but mispronounce Bol as bowl. I grew up wondering wtf the bowl of spag was andehy everyone was eating it.
