There seems to be a trend for people calling spaghetti bolognese “spag bowl”......gives me the rage Angry

AIBU?!

What phrases piss you off??!!

OP posts:
willothewisp17 · 28/11/2018 22:22

we call it geggy bolly Grin I don't even know why Hmm

Grilledaubergines · 28/11/2018 22:56

I’d have thought ‘spag bowl’ is just an accent thing - most likely cockney-estuary. Nothing to get too worked up over.

Caramel no, fairy cakes are about a third of the size of a cupcake and generally much more plain in decoration.

YoThePussy · 28/11/2018 23:06

It has always been spaghetti bollock-naked in our house.

Foxcovert · 28/11/2018 23:16

This has all done my heading...
Grin

BlueRose28 · 28/11/2018 23:43

My mum and younger brother have lots of weird names for things. 11 years between me and my brother and these names were never used when I was growing up (thankfully Grin). Here are some of the nicknames they use for things -

Slippers - slip slops/slip slips
Fingers - Fingey
Lasagne - lesaggy
Chest of drawers - chesty drawers
Shampoo - Shampoop

The list goes on!
when talking to other people or out and about, they use the correct names for things.

Katedotness1963 · 29/11/2018 00:15

Since this has moved on to other misspellings I’d like to add one I saw online yesterday.

Someone was selling a “rod iron table”.

VerbeenaBeeks · 29/11/2018 00:19

I put on a pretend Italian accent like "spaghetti bollla naysee!" Grin when the kids ask what's for tea. I do their head in but it amuses me lol

Milliy · 29/11/2018 00:32

Been spag Bol since the 80s

MadMadaMim · 29/11/2018 02:49

Spaghetti Bolognaise pissees me off.

I'm from Bologna. There's no such thing. It's my indicator of whether to eat at a restaurant or not. If its on the menu, it's a no.

MadMadaMim · 29/11/2018 03:06

@BookMeOnTheSudExpress I'm from Bologna. Anywhere in Bologna, 'ragu' is a better version of what the rest of the world outside of Bologna refers to as Bolognaise (on the respective languages).

Ragù in Bologna is minced meats. Unless it's specified that's its a different ragù eg ragù al cinghiale or ragù al prosciutto crudo etc.

And just to add an extra into the mix, we also sometimes just say sugo when we mean ragù which in turn is what everyone else calls Bolognaise.

mokapot · 29/11/2018 03:37

I have heard someone seriously say “she leads the life of Kylie” when talking about her daughter

ConfusedConfusedGrin

OkPedro · 29/11/2018 03:46

Life of Kylie feckn love it! However who was Riley? Or is it Reilly?

We call spag bol Spaghetti Bolog nasal in our house

Zoflorabore · 29/11/2018 05:37

My ndn once knocked and asked if she could borrow some "fairy up liquid" and i genuinely didn't know what she meant at first.

She also pronounces the word "towels" like "tiles" and it makes me want to strangle her Grin

Flyfisherlady · 29/11/2018 08:39

I saw a pram that was being sold “in emasculated condition”... Whatever that may mean.

Boglin · 29/11/2018 09:00

I saw a pram that was being sold “in emasculated condition”... Whatever that may mean.

It had had its sketty bollocks removed Grin

SalemBlackCat4 · 30/11/2018 10:31

Or just 'spaghetti'.

RagingWhoreBag · 30/11/2018 10:42

If you’re from Bologna why are you saying Bolognaise instead of Bolognese?!

GiGi18 · 30/11/2018 10:46

A few people genuinely think it is spag BOWL (not Bol). It drives me insane but not as bad as when people actually believe that the word "drawers" and draws" are the same thing. It actually fills me with rage 😂

ravenmum · 30/11/2018 10:52

Keep your draws on GiGi 😂

Some people don't even pronounce "lion" to rhyme with "barn" 😂

AjasLipstick · 30/11/2018 11:56

Raging she said that's what everyone else called it.

Monty27 · 01/12/2018 03:09

My friend loved the song Walls in Matilda 😂

haloumi · 10/12/2018 15:50

spag bol

or spaggywag

or

Bolonaise

Myusername101z · 10/12/2018 15:58

“Gives me the rage” is one that annoys me

ravenmum · 11/12/2018 08:04

Isn't "gives me the rage" just normal, correct English? I thought that's what people say in Ireland.

Myusername101z · 11/12/2018 14:40

@ravenmum ive only ever seen it on mumsnet maybe I’m wrong but it doesn’t make sense to me. Rage is an emotion/noun so “gives me the rage” doesn’t sound right to me nobody says “gives me the sadness”Confused
