About fucking bin men

continuallychargingmyphone · 27/11/2018 07:46

Completely blocking the street. All they had to do was move up to pass parked cars and let people pass. Asked them to move and got ‘we’ve got a job to do!’

Yes, because I was going nowhere Confused

continually, what were you hoping for when you started the thread? (Not rhetorical - I'm genuinely curious)

Claw001 · 27/11/2018 15:26

Seems everything is annoying you at the moment OP. Have a cuppa

HAnnAH129 · 27/11/2018 15:31

Some not all bin men can be totally unreasonable Where I live is a cluster of villages each one with a different collection day. It's impossible to plan round them, some will sit in the middle of perfectly clear roads, have a nice chat or just plain refuse to move whist every one is in the lorry. Others at so lovely and helpful. Just because you do a manual job doesn't make it better or more important or more moral you still get twits and jobs worth's like every where else.
Here we have regular collections that happen from 9am-5pm so planning round them or leaving the house early will never work, you know they're coming but never when.
Just because you have nice considerate bin men doesn't mean others do.just because the job can smell and is manual doesn't automatically put them in the right either.

continuallychargingmyphone · 27/11/2018 15:58

Who knows poll

I don’t. Perhaps a sign of really not having even one person who gives a fuck.

shirleyschmidt · 27/11/2018 16:06

@continuallychargingmyphone try not to let a few strangers' comments upset you, you're allowed to feel annoyed about whatever you want in the privacy of your own car. Sorry it sounds like you're having a tough time.

Lizzie48 · 27/11/2018 16:09

You would get more sympathy, OP, if you weren't so defensive when posters disagree with you. It's an open forum so you will get different views, especially on AIBU. Sometimes it's helpful to hear a different perspective.

continuallychargingmyphone · 27/11/2018 16:27

Defensive? I’ve had abuse chucked at me for nine pages lizzie so yes, I am defensive. And I really don’t think I can be arsed any more with it.

OP posts:
Lizzie48 · 27/11/2018 16:37

I've seen far worse threads than this one TBH. It might have helped your cause a little bit if you hadn't reacted to the criticism so aggressively, you were as abusive as those posters you were criticising actually.

You know how AIBU works by now. Why did you post what you did if you didn't want some robust debate? We've all had to cope with delays, it's annoying, but not the end of the world and our needs to trump those of other road users. (Even if my DDs end up late for school in my case.)

So I'm sorry it upset you, I'm not being abusive, but I do still say that you were being a tad unreasonable. I take it we're allowed to disagree with you? Disagreeing in it's isn't abusive after all.

Lizzie48 · 27/11/2018 16:41

I've had a look at the thread again. Nobody has been particularly abusive on here actually, they've just disagreed with you. The only one coming out with abuse was you, all because we didn't all say, 'YANBU, you're absolutely right to be annoyed.'

Magenta46 · 27/11/2018 16:44

leave 10 minutes earlier. In many countries you have to take your rubbish to the tip yourself.

paintinmyhairAgain · 27/11/2018 17:01

if continue you have been that upset with the response to your question why are you still here on page 9 ? it has been a heated debate but that is aibu, and with straight talking, it's how we get things done.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 27/11/2018 17:05

If they have to move 100 yards down the street then don’t complain when your emptied bin is also moved 100 yards down the street and left there.....

Leave early enough that a 10 minute hold up won’t make you late for work. Bin day here yesterday and wagon was actually stopped across my drive when I was ready to leave. I waited, I exchanged pleasantries with the bin man as he tipped my bin “sorry to keep you waiting love”, “not a problem you've got a job to do and I’ll soon be on my way”..., got a lovely smile. I was actually held up for longer by some temporary traffic lights with NO sign of anybody actually working but still got to work in time.

Bicyclethief · 27/11/2018 17:29

If only local central government run services for their citizens in mind! Most working people's day is dogged with inefficient and disjointed services which just stresses people no end. The number of hours stolen from us each and every month is truly staggering. Then they wonder why we're not productive in this country and why we are so miserable. Yet, the same fools are so quick to put a coat on the economy for the nations sick days!

Polidori · 27/11/2018 18:51

continually, I hope is hasn't felt too harsh. In fact, people do disagree with your original post. So maybe the kindest answer should be a more understanding one: You are being unreasonable, but that's ok. We're all unreasonable sometimes, especially when we're fighting on too many fronts.
Try to be patient with people. Those guys might have shit going on too. But don't beat yourself up about losing it

Donna1001 · 27/11/2018 19:40

I have no issue with them blocking the road, it would take them much longer if the6 had to keep parking 100yrds from the bins.

However, I do take issue with them leaving my bin in the middle of the front of my gate. So I have to move it before I can drive in.

Plenty of room either side of the gate. I’m sure they do it on purpose!

M4J4 · 27/11/2018 19:53

Well, leaving ten minutes earlier today would have made no difference.

Why not, OP? If there are road works that's not the bin men's fault. You may not like it but the answer is to leave earlier.

I leave early on Tuesdays and always get a wave of gratitude from the bin men for my patience. It's never 10 minutes though, that sounds like an exaggeration.

TheEmmaDilemma · 27/11/2018 20:00

And that's why next time your bin is slightly over they won't take it...!!!

wotsittoyou · 27/11/2018 20:09

OP, you asked whether you were unreasonable, clearly expecting posters to pile in and slag off bin collectors. They didn't, and instead of having the grace to listen and accept that you are in the wrong, you repeatedly posted ignoring them and indicating that they were just being goady.

wotsittoyou · 27/11/2018 20:11

Bugger, sorry. Hadn't even finished.

Do you really think that people agree with you and are disagreeing here just to get at you?

StripySocksAndDocs · 27/11/2018 20:25

Ooh I got held up on the road today by a bin lorry. I needed to drive on the other side of the road to drive around a parked car. I couldn’t though because the bin lorry was there, and they were loading binfuls of rubbish into it. Didn’t realise I had to be angry.

Getting mad now though. Ooh yes. The wankers. Think they waited for me to come round the corner, probably had been there ages hoping someone would arrive to hold up. Emptying bins and putting them back on purpose and making me wait.

Not sure how long I waited though, watching them bastards doing their jobs in the pouring rain. The knobheads. Didn’t realise I had to time it. Fail on my part, might have been three minutes; what’s the average song length? I know I managed to sing along to a song on the radio.

Think I’ll start a campaign to stop them fuckers going down that road so I won’t be held up again. That’ll learn them, the tossers. Okay so there’s the possibility the build up of rubbish might start being an issue. I’ll have to drive over it. Not my actually road though so, whatever.

Doyoumind · 27/11/2018 20:40

This is when MN is needlessly unkind. OP has already said she's having a bad time. Why kick her when she's down?

Bryonee · 27/11/2018 20:45

Outs are horrendous and will stop in he middle of the street instead of pulling in 20 yards ahead, causing massive backlog. I've sat behind one for 15 mins before. They're so passive aggressive.

Jellyonawonkyplate · 27/11/2018 20:47

I love fucking bin men

TenForward82 · 27/11/2018 20:54

I don't get this belief that binmen are deliberately being difficult and holding people up or reversing awkwardly for the fun of it. Have you tried to drive a massive lorry? Backwards?
