About fucking bin men

Completely blocking the street. All they had to do was move up to pass parked cars and let people pass. Asked them to move and got ‘we’ve got a job to do!’

Yes, because I was going nowhere Confused

When I read the thread title I wondered if it was going to be about an alternative way to tip them at Christmas.

Bloomini · 27/11/2018 12:15

If waiting for around ten minutes means you were going to be late for work perhaps you need to get up and out a bit earlier in future.
YABU.

PhilomenaButterfly · 27/11/2018 12:17

I'd like them not to chuck the lid of our bin in the basement, please.

Racecardriver · 27/11/2018 12:23

Maybe you could suggest they move as the empty bins? In Australia they used to have a truck which would stop by each bin and pick up the bin itself and empty it out. Where I live now (in Britain) the driver moved the truck ten paces while two binmen walk up to the next set of bins. The driver stops and the bin men empty a few bins and then the cycle repeats. It’s much faster than plonking themselves in the middle of the road and dragging bins from all over.

paintinmyhairAgain · 27/11/2018 12:25

no doubt plenty of people moan about the time waiting at railway crossing too, it is only a few minutes out of your day, nothing major really

Hillarious · 27/11/2018 12:28

OP - the very simple solution to your problem is to persuade all your neighbours to take their bins 100 yards down the road to where it's wider, so the bin lorry can park up there and then empty the bins. I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

continuallychargingmyphone · 27/11/2018 12:29

Very simple.

hillarious problem sorted Smile

gotmybigbootson · 27/11/2018 12:35

Where I live there a no bin men and it's an hour's drive to take your stinking rubbish in your car yo the dump.

Stop moaning.

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/11/2018 12:38

I dread getting stuck behind the bin lorry, here while they collect the binbags from 32 flats and we are late for school. (murphy dictating that they would only arrive on a day we are late)

however, last time that happened they were really kind and let me past at the half way point when they don't normally stop there. I think lots of times of saying thankyou to them when I have seen them and chatting to them if I am about when they are collecting helps. lots of other neighbours are the same too.

BlackeyedGruesome · 27/11/2018 12:43

@InsomniacAnonymous fabulous post.

isn't the truck a bit too draughty though? and it is not exactly private!

percheron67 · 27/11/2018 12:52

I have no wish to!

Vicky1990 · 27/11/2018 12:53

If more women worked on the bin collection rounds wouldn't things be so much better.

MeVoila · 27/11/2018 12:56

Our bin men are great. Always cheerful whatever the weather conditions. Fast and efficient. Appear to take pleasure and satisfaction from doing a good job.
Block our street every week. For perhaps all of 3 minutes. I salute them.

LifesABeachCoaster · 27/11/2018 12:56

swear some posters would say you were unreasonable here if you suggested giving Lottery winnings to charity. I need a diagram

Why ask then? You clearly think you are being reasonable.

Believe it or not, they are just doing their job. They aren't out to piss people off.

greendale17 · 27/11/2018 12:57

They stop where the loaders can.. load the bins. Should they have to put heavy bins further just for you? Most come at a similar time.. leave earlier?

^This

Looneytune253 · 27/11/2018 13:00

Did it really take them 10 minutes to do your street though? Could you have went a different way. They are just doing their job to be fair and you don’t generally have to wait that long. Even 10 minutes isn’t that long but I can’t imagine it being that amount of time, maybe 3 mins lol

Flooffloof · 27/11/2018 13:03

Wow, my bin men are really really nice.
They don't move to the side cos of doing bins on both sides of the street at the same time, but they are cheerful and always willing to wave to little kids, get the elderly blokes bin if one of us forgot, make a fuss of the dogs that don't want to kill them etc.

It's while ago now and I have forgotten the actual numbers but the bin men were put on some new system/rounds/times/shifts.
And they had to go from emptying 80 bins per hour to 100 bins per hour.
It's not a job I could do, so when I am stuck behind one, no I don't get angry.

Undercoverbanana · 27/11/2018 13:06

Are you really complaining about a bunch of people doing a pretty yucky job in the cold and the rain for pretty low wages and with unreasonable targets without which your home would be infested with rats?

YABU. How about just being friendly to them?

HildegardCrowe · 27/11/2018 13:07

Very rude and disrespectful way of talking about anyone. Especially those who get up in the dark for peanuts to take your crap away. Shame on you

Second that. The sense of entitlement some people seem to have these days is really depressing. How dare they interfere with your oh so important busy life.

JudasPrudy · 27/11/2018 13:10

Fucking bin turning up to empty the bins. Tossers

shirleyschmidt · 27/11/2018 13:11

I hear you, OP. Gives me mega rage too. I seem never to set off with enough time to allow for them, and they stop right at the entrance of the road, which always has the same 4 annoying parked cars on the 2 kerbs. If the bin lorry nudged forward ever so slightly they'd be beyond those cars and I could fit round. I assume they have their reasons for this positioning so I just fume silently, make a mental note to leave earlier and never do Grin

Knittink · 27/11/2018 13:18

They stop where it's convenient to empty the heavy bins. Imagine how much longer their round would take if someone on every street insisted they move the bin lorry a bit further down the road! A lot more than the supposed 10 minutes you had to wait, OP.

Yes it's irritating when something delays you, but that's life. Suck it up or leave earlier.

rosetulip · 27/11/2018 13:19

I have a relative who’s a bin man. It’s not the best of jobs. If you ever take time to watch them working you see the speed they have to work at. They literally can’t stop for a minute, and because of cutbacks there’s less crew to each wagon. They work so hard for relatively low pay too.

Polidori · 27/11/2018 13:20

Shirleyschmidt if you read the thread you will see it has been pointed out many many times why stopping where you could "just fit round" would be a bad idea.
