About fucking bin men

Completely blocking the street. All they had to do was move up to pass parked cars and let people pass. Asked them to move and got ‘we’ve got a job to do!’

Yes, because I was going nowhere Confused

Given the amount of time you have taken on here complaining that 10 minutes could have easily been grabbed back...

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2018 10:45

That's very true Sirzy Grin

werideatdawn · 27/11/2018 10:49

I mean...you've probably spent ten minutes of WORK time on Mumsnet so I'm not sure why being delayed by bin men is much different. Maybe let them know you don't want your bins emptying next time, save them blocking your street.

JacquesHammer · 27/11/2018 10:52

Ten minutes which has a knock on effect on the rest of the day

If 10 minutes (if indeed it was) is making such a dramatic difference to your day, I’d be concerned at my time management skills. Sounds like you’re trying to pack too much in to be healthy!

AdobeWanKenobi · 27/11/2018 10:52

those who get up in the dark for peanuts

Bin Lorry Driver - £29k

That aint peanuts. Depending on the council it can be a very well paid job.

If the binmen went on strike you'd be whining about your rubbish not being collected and having to take your rubbish to the tip, dont forget you create the mess they take away OP so don't be so entitled and give them a few minutes to take your crap away

continuallychargingmyphone · 27/11/2018 11:07

Jesus. I need to be in work for a certain time. That doesn’t mean every waking minute is spent working. It just means if I am not there on time I could run into problems. But the usual lot are enjoying having a goad. Hope you enjoyed yourself. I really hope you had fun.

Time to be on MN though....?

"those who get up in the dark for peanuts"
" Bin Lorry Driver - £29k"

Even here in Liverpool they are on over £27k, which is equivalent to a professional salary.

OP we are about to be plagued once again with roadworks, as a lot of Inner cities are. So ten minutes on one day a week, is nothing. During roadworks you can have upto an hour put on your journey on some routes.

I thought it was going to be a comaint about the time they start. Our garden waste collectors start at 6.40 am. But there a decent bunch of Lads and I don't envy them when it's bad weather. We live among some scruffs whose bins you wouldn't want to go near.

sonandhelpneeded · 27/11/2018 11:24

Fair comment about the time on mumsnet ....

Lizzie48 · 27/11/2018 11:29

Surely you knew what you were letting yourself in for when you posted this on AIBU, OP? And you're hardly going to get a kinder response by bitching about it. I think you must be enjoying it or else you'd hide the thread?

Would you rather the bin men didn't come?? Hmm

wijjy · 27/11/2018 11:34

This is why they block the road - and it still doesn't stop self important twats from overtaking them on the pavement

DuckingMel · 27/11/2018 11:41

When I worked in parks and green spaces, we used to fight over the Friday dog poo bin collections. 1.5 times pay (dirty work bonus) and fun day chatting with a partner, driving around in heated pick up with radio. So, I bet bin men are actually well paid. No need to pity them. On the subject of the thread, bin lorries can be annoying, but there's a reason why they do the things they do, like blocking a road. It won't take that long and if you know it's bin day and you'll likely get stuck, just leave earlier.

JugheadismyHero · 27/11/2018 11:53

My DH has been a binman for 12 years.

He has had abuse, been hit, threatened and had to call the police numerous times - over BINS!!

His work friend got run over because someone was impatient and drove around the truck.

He gets to work for 5am and home between 3-5pm.

BUT he loves his job. They don't (always) inconvenience people on purpose, but they have a job to do and pressure from bosses to get the job done.

They also have to take photos and notes of any bins with the lid over an inch open Hmm

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 27/11/2018 11:57

Not sure what I’ll make of a neighbour going round fucking bin men, but whatever works for you.

Grin Grin

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 27/11/2018 11:58

Dunno OP but I suppose different things annoy different folks.

Do they EMPTY the bins each time is the main thing . Round here they don't always and that is not on .

bellsbuss · 27/11/2018 11:59

I love our bin men, they always take extra rubbish for me when I occasionally can't fit it on our bin and they also still empty bin when the lid isn't closed shut. I give them a few crates of beer every Christmas

RangeRider · 27/11/2018 12:02

I'm actually with OP on this one because round here they seem to take great delight in blocking the road. There are places where they could easily stay on their side of the road but they'll pull out into the middle (side roads) so that no-one can squeeze by via the kerb. And it makes no difference to them putting rubbish in because they have wheelie bins and it's about a foot or so extra to pull it along.
And there's more rubbish on the streets after they've bin (no pun intended) round then before because they're so slapdash. Drives me mad.

twoheaped · 27/11/2018 12:04

Mildly annoying to be held up but not worth getting your knickers in a twist about.
Our bin men come by about the same time each week, avoiding those times aren't difficult.

sanpelle · 27/11/2018 12:06

The bin men round here think they own the place because of the size of their lorry. Luckily a police car was coming down right at the same time the other week and told them to back into our shared driveway like they should, because that’s where all the bins are! That coupled with them leaving the bins out in the middle of the busy road really gets on my nerves. They get paid a decent wage now and from the countless missed collections all the time it seems as if they’re getting money for nothing. I’d respect them if they actually did their job but they don’t and make everyone’s lives difficult. I don’t have time to do several tip runs each week, hence why I pay for bin collections that I don’t receive. I know there’s excellent bin men and companies out there I’m just not lucky enough to experience that. My town is in a constant dire state with rubbish bags and overflowing bins lining the streets 24/7. The council don’t bother either I’ve not seen a litter picker in years. Piers Morgan would love it as a front for ‘broken Britain’. It’s an East Midlands town if anyone is in a similar situation. You don’t get surgeons just parking up outside a hospital blocking the road for everyone shouting ‘I’ve got lives to save!’ so why are binmen any differentHmm

Polidori · 27/11/2018 12:09

Good grief, RangeRider! Have you read the thread? It's been pointed out over and over again that stopping where people can go round thdm is not desirable because it is not safe and PEOPLE DIE.
When you say "they seem to take great delight", what do you actually mean? How does this delight manifest itself?

Polidori · 27/11/2018 12:12

sanpelle they're not parking, you idiot

Sirzy · 27/11/2018 12:12

Ranger can you really not figure why they wouldn’t position themselves somewhere to make it so people can’t “squeeze by via the kerb”?

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 27/11/2018 12:13

any one remember the fun times with the bin men striking in early 1979 ?

I do indeed
