About fucking bin men

continuallychargingmyphone · 27/11/2018 07:46

Completely blocking the street. All they had to do was move up to pass parked cars and let people pass. Asked them to move and got ‘we’ve got a job to do!’

Yes, because I was going nowhere Confused

Surely we all want our rubbish collected, so we have to make allowance for that to happen.

In my (teeny tiny) road that means those who normally park on the road move their cars for bin day and accept that during the time the bin lorry is in the road we don't have access to our drives. It takes 10 minutes, at the same time every week and therefore totally predictable. If it was an appointment with a set time and a journey you don't often make then YABU to not leave sufficient time to allow for minor (ie less than 15 min) delays.

RoseDog · 27/11/2018 13:34

Our bin men are FABULOUS they come a day late for every bin, all they calendars they printed and posted were just a waste of money, they come between 8.30am - 9.00am or between 5pm and 6pm, we live in the quietest housing estate in the world, except they 2 times when everyone is going to and returning from work/school and they insist on going the wrong way round the one way system which is is not chaotic in the slightest!

The most annoying thing is they never ever put the bins back on the pavement so as its windy today and the bins were emptied this morning it looks like a wheelie bin massacre out there!

WhiteDust · 27/11/2018 13:37

Wow OP. You are irrationally angry over 10 mins. As others have said, leave earlier on bin day.

Maybe they saw your angry little face and decided to stay where they were just to piss you off even more

Seriously though, I get held up on my way to work every week (not my road but en route) I try to be patient because the lads/men that do the round sprint (ok, jog) from bin to bin and look knackered. They always wave to say thank you too.

DopeyDazy · 27/11/2018 13:39

the poor sods have a crappy job, food waste is collected separately round here and sometimes it mings something terrible. I'm just grateful they do it and if it takes a few minutes waiting to make sure it's safe and a bit easier I'm all for it

shirleyschmidt · 27/11/2018 13:40

Polidori - I have read most of it but the few explanations I saw seem to suggest it's so that people don't mount a kerb to go round them. In my case the road is wide so coming forward would allow me to continue fully on my own side of the road and drive on as normal. I don't see why that's such a hazard - it must occur on many busy/main roads - but as I said in my post, I accept there's a reason and I don't actually say anything to them 👍

thereallifesaffy · 27/11/2018 13:42

I love our bin men. They always give our wavy dog a biccie, are always cheerful. And my god they're amazingly fit (in the old fashioned sense)... running down the street hauling huge weights. Brilliant blokes.
We give ours chocs and wine for Xmas
You should leave for work earlier on bin mornings

RomanyRoots · 27/11/2018 13:44

Why are people saying bin men, we have several women working on our bins. Sometimes it's all women.

BertramKibbler · 27/11/2018 13:49

I assume because the OP was held up by MEN and those posting also only have MEN collecting the rubbish. There aren’t any bin women in my area

Polidori · 27/11/2018 13:53

shirleyschmidt' it's nothing to do with mounting the kerb, it's to do with safety. And before you become dismissive, there are at least two posts about people being killed

shirleyschmidt · 27/11/2018 14:30

Oh do one Polidori before I "become dismissive". I don't care whether it's safety or not - as I've said twice I don't make anything of it,** I sit quietly and wait. Sometimes things can be necessary and still be annoying. No need to take offence on behalf of my bin men.

xJessica · 27/11/2018 14:33

Ours left our bin smack bang in the middle of our gates so coming back from work in the car a little while ago I had to get out and move it before I could get into the drive. Is it really so hard to leave it just a bit further across, at the side? I don't mind if in coming in on foot, it's usually emptied whilst I'm picking up DD from school and we are walking in but it was a pain in the backside today

Hillarious · 27/11/2018 14:34

What I love most about our bin men is that they do block the road and inconvenience all the rat-runners taking a short cut through our estate. I just push my bike past them.

ImpendingDisaster · 27/11/2018 14:36

Why are people saying bin men, we have several women working on our bins. Sometimes it's all women.

Seriously? How unusual. I have literally never seen a bin woman.

StarfishSandwich · 27/11/2018 14:37

I always think that if you’re finding yourself getting pissed off when driving (ie. due to cyclists/tractors/bin lorries costing you a few extra seconds or minutes) you need to start thinking about leaving the house earlier. And if you are a few minutes late, so what? If it was that urgent you’d be in a vehicle with a siren.

WhiteDust · 27/11/2018 14:46

I have literally never seen a bin woman.
Me neither. Always men.

RomanyRoots · 27/11/2018 14:46

impending

yes, the hours and pay are really good for women, i know it's not the best job, but they start at about 18k and if they drive the lorries it's up to 24k.
i know, really smelly, but no heavy lifting as bins go on ramp things.
Have even considered it myself and might well do if nothing else turns up soon Grin

RomanyRoots · 27/11/2018 14:48

I'm in the NW if that makes any difference.

Polidori · 27/11/2018 14:48

it gives me mega rage
I sit quietly and wait

Okey dokey, shirleyschmidt. Okey dokey.
Biscuit

wijjy · 27/11/2018 14:49

This thread is quite the eye opener.

I have never quite realised how inconsiderate and stupid some people are.

Jaxhog · 27/11/2018 14:57

Little hitlers - all of them.

One backed out of a side road in front of me, then proceeeded to back up until he was an inch from my bumper. Me and the 3 cars behind me had to back up so the bin lorry could turn round. Bastards.

Littlefrog99 · 27/11/2018 14:59

Our bin men are lovely, they bring treats for the dog and give DS a wave if he's watching from the window. If they block the road they pull in to let cars pass whenever there is space to do so. No complaints from me.

Another PP earlier mentioned that her bin men complain that people put dog poo or dirty nappies in the bins. I'm a bit Confused at this. Can anyone shed any light on where we should be putting them? I mean, the bins have lids and are put on the back of the lorry where they're mechanically emptied. Nobody has to touch them so what's the issue?

shirleyschmidt · 27/11/2018 15:00

Polidori don't know about you but I'm capable of feeling annoyed/'the rage' and still not rant at the bin men, I imagine most people are. You seem very invested in trying to put me straight about something, it's bizarre.

continuallychargingmyphone · 27/11/2018 15:01

Tbh this thread has really upset me.

I hid it but returned. Glutton for punishment.

There’s a lot going on for me at the moment. And while I wouldn’t say they ruined my day, they made it tough going.

I don’t know whether to dereg or not. I probably need flouncers corner.

Yes, because I was going nowhere

So how much extra physical exercise, and extra time added on to your working day, would you be happy with? If you had to finish an hour or two later and run for several extra kilometres a day for the same pay, would you. If, to satisfy the whims of a member of the public, your office photocopier, bin, and coffee machine were situated 100 yards further away than usual, and you were expected to spend your day running between them and hauling them up and down the corridors, would you be happy to do so?

Yes, it's irritating when you've fucked up and not left home before the bin men arrive and block the road, but it ain't worth getting hot under the collar about.

Doyoumind · 27/11/2018 15:17

OP AIBU is not the place for anyone having a bad day. I get where you're coming from. Don't flounce! Have a glass of wine and a bath later if you are able.
