Should I pay for this damage?

Last night I had a few friends round for drinks that I’ve known for a long time. This morning I’ve woken up to messages of a neighbour saying they have CCTV footage of 2 of the people I had round smashing their car mirror and demanding I pay for the damage. I’ve spoke to them and they are adamant they haven’t done anything and why would they, They aren’t like that whatsoever and it was just a quiet few drinks. They said they would love to see the CCTV because they know it’s not them, I’ve asked neighbour and they have said they don’t have my friends on camera damaging their car. But another neighbour has a camera that’s seen them stood outside my house? I don’t know what to do, I’ve suggested they call the police they replied that wasn’t an option you need to pay for it, as I've brought trash to my house apparently Shock like I've said I've known these people for years I certainly don't associate with people that do shit like that.

I think another car has clipped and damaged it and they're just looking for someone to blame because they can't accept that sometimes you have to suck up random damage and pay for it.

Call the police, it's the only thing they will understand.

This is weird- why does your neighbour have your phone number? The fact that you could wake up to messages suggests that you were close enough to have given them your number, but the rest of your posts suggest otherwise because close neighbours don’t scream at each other in the street and try to extort money off of each other. I also find it odd that you’d even ask the question posed in the title tbh because of course you shouldn’t, but you seem to have reached that conclusion.

I am not close to any of these neighbours at all. 2 of them messaged me on Facebook about the damage and I gave next door my number yesterday to text me and let me know what was seen on his cctv footage. I've spoken to the police anyway. Thanks for all the replies x

What Did the police say OP?
What a rubbish situation.
You and your friends have done nothing wrong and they know it.

Keep any emails or texts especially any abusive/ accusing ones as proof. Also fb messages.

maddening · 27/11/2018 12:32

Well done for going to the police op, take the neighbours to task for harrasment and abuse!

whaaatthe · 27/11/2018 13:23

Police have said ignore her if she approaches me and to ring them if anything happens, said they've heard a lot of them in the past and know exactly what they are like apparently Hmm

Ok so there car is damaged
You happened to have friends round who left on foot
There are two lots of cctv neither of which show friends causing damage
They are filming the outside of your property/public street

I know what the Police would be interested in, alongside threatening messages!

I would tell them your mates are criminal lawyers and did they really want to mess with them!! Ha ha
