Should I pay for this damage?

Last night I had a few friends round for drinks that I’ve known for a long time. This morning I’ve woken up to messages of a neighbour saying they have CCTV footage of 2 of the people I had round smashing their car mirror and demanding I pay for the damage. I’ve spoke to them and they are adamant they haven’t done anything and why would they, They aren’t like that whatsoever and it was just a quiet few drinks. They said they would love to see the CCTV because they know it’s not them, I’ve asked neighbour and they have said they don’t have my friends on camera damaging their car. But another neighbour has a camera that’s seen them stood outside my house? I don’t know what to do, I’ve suggested they call the police they replied that wasn’t an option you need to pay for it, as I've brought trash to my house apparently Shock like I've said I've known these people for years I certainly don't associate with people that do shit like that.

Ok, as my mum was just leaving my house with all my younger siblings neighbour has came out her house shouting what's going to happen about this mirror, I said nothing has been seen on the cctv she said it's obvious it's them, was screaming abuse at us and threatened to knock me and my mum out in front of our kids Angry

That’s awful OP - you need to report him for threats and verbal abuse.

Baking101 · 26/11/2018 18:47

I bet they knocked the wing mirror off something themselves and just want someone else to pay.

Also phone the police about the harassment and threats.

whaaatthe · 26/11/2018 18:50

The wing mirror isn't off, the glass is broke. Actually in shock

You need to call the police.

Jakethekid · 26/11/2018 18:53

Yeah I would be making a report op.

icelollycraving · 26/11/2018 18:55

Call the police!

BlueJava · 26/11/2018 19:04

Unless they have CCTV that they can show you with your friends breaking stuff up then don't pay.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 26/11/2018 19:07

Police now!

NorthEndGal · 26/11/2018 20:57

Definitely police time

PotteryLady · 26/11/2018 22:38

As everyone has said report to the police. They can check footage and then speak to the dickhead neighbour to get them off your back.

creamcheeseandlox · 26/11/2018 23:12

Public order offence right there. Call police and report his threats.

I honestly don't even want to live here anymore, so think I'll be looking at moving. The last message I sent them days ago (before I asked other neighbour about cctv and turns out nothing is on there) to find out how much the damage would cost. They didn't reply. But felt the need to scream at me in the street in front of my toddler instead calling me a slag and threatening to knock me out, I am actually in disbelief lol. What is wrong with someone people?

Class party

whaaatthe · 27/11/2018 01:47

If she would of came over and spoke civil I probably would of paid the what £10? To get it fixed just to keep the peace with having to live next to them. But now she has threatened me in trying to get me to, I won't be paying anything which just goes to show they have a major issue with me regardless of the damage. I suppose I'll have to deal with the abuse and evils having to walk past their house everyday Hmm brilliant.

Loving Benidorm..give over will you.

ThisIsNotMyRealName1 · 27/11/2018 02:24

No, you shouldn't even be thinking about paying for the damage.

It would have been silly, OP, to pay any money to fix the window seeing as your friends didn't even do the damage, Your low rent neighbour sounds a bit unhinged - I suppose it would be too much to hope for that the neighbour with the CCTV would have this latest interaction on his CCTV...

whaaatthe · 27/11/2018 02:33

@Lovingbenidorm what is your problem

OP posts:
Lovingbenidorm · 27/11/2018 03:19

I’ve gone.

Monty27 · 27/11/2018 04:21

Any payment means admitting guilt.
Surely you aren't so naive Hmm
