Christmas Trees in November

What is this fresh hell?

People putting their trees up in November WTAF? Its another week until bloody December?!

I hate the bloody commercialism the bloody colour themes people moaning about putting one up and having another two to go (in their own home so entirely optional).

Why does this have to be another “thing”.

Bah humbug I say.

I usually wait until 1st of December but I put all my decorations and tree up yesterday simply as I had a child free day off! Looks lovely but definitely agree things seem to have started super early this year!

I can't get wound up about it. As long as its not in my house hich it never is because we won't have a tree

heathers00 · 28/11/2018 13:40

We are usually with the not before Advent crowd for the tree and we often put a few little decorations out over time late November to ease into the spirit. Things like Christmas coasters and snowflake window stickers are out and up for a few days now. This year the tree is going up a few days early, today! With school trips and other family arrangements the timing works best by being flexible.

I don’t understand those that start Christmas in November, nor fake trees and garlands.

I really hate fake Christmas trees. Even those Balsam Hill ones look a bit shit.

scoobydoobydoooooh · 28/11/2018 18:32

It doesn't seem to be as bad around my area this year as last year. There's a few trees and garden lights up, but not that many.

I agree that people who cannot wait until Dec to put up their tree come across as a bit childishly impatient.

BeautifulBlue · 28/11/2018 18:35

I got a Christmas tree the last week in November last year, don’t know what was wrong with me (first year being a mum, potential hormonal invasion) anyway it died a week before Christmas & we hosted the whole family with our dreary looking, brown tree. Marvellous.

DavetheCat2001 · 28/11/2018 19:38

I'm thinking of getting ours the w/e of Dec 8th, although I still think come Xmas itself it's going to be looking a bit crispy.....

WipsGlitter · 29/11/2018 08:24

If you can keep it cool and watered @DavetheCat2001 it's should be ok.

I agree with the poster above re coping mechanisms. I had an exchange with someone and they said "oh 3 and 5 year olds done understand delayed gratification". Well no, they won't if you give into them all the time. Help them learn how to build anticipation and excitement. If you give in and put the decorations up then next weekend they'll just whine for something else.

Having read A Year of Living Danishly, I do wonder every year when these threads appear if it’s a psychological need for Hyyge which the Scandinavians do so well, but because we don’t have it as a thing here the next best thing is early Christmas decorations. My need for the twinkly lights is satisfied with twinkly lights + a few autumnal decorations (I have a lovely leaves and berries garland on the mantle piece) + additional candles and throws that I put up in October. I just swap everything over to Christmas stuff in Mid December. The thought of having a giant dark tree swallowing up space and sunlight in my sitting room for 5 weeks does not improve the winter blues imo.
