Christmas Trees in November

MrsDylanBlue · 25/11/2018 20:15

What is this fresh hell?

People putting their trees up in November WTAF? Its another week until bloody December?!

I hate the bloody commercialism the bloody colour themes people moaning about putting one up and having another two to go (in their own home so entirely optional).

Why does this have to be another “thing”.

Bah humbug I say.

I can't stand going out to celebrate on n y eve and the Christmas tree being up so we aren't very traditional in our house.I put ours up sat just gone and I take it down n y eve morning.

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 26/11/2018 19:51

If your tree goes up before December then you're a knob. Basically.

If it goes up before December the 10th or comes dowb before January 6th you're still a little bit of a knob.

If your tree comes down on boxing day. You are a massive knob.

Wisest words I've ever read on MN Grin

Ski4130 · 26/11/2018 19:53

If you judge people on when their Christmas tree gets put up you’re the biggest knob going.

A580Hojas · 26/11/2018 19:58

Christmas trees in November = always put up by people who are "sick of Christmas" by Boxing day and can't wait to take all the decorations down, go to the Next Boxing Day sale and start spring cleaning on the 27th.

We have little in common.

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 26/11/2018 19:59

Oh, I judge people on all sorts of stupid shit. Some people probably do think I'm a knob, but luckily I don't care a jot.

I don't think I can claim the honour of being the actual biggest knob going, however. There's loads more knobbish behaviour than thinking November Christmas tree are a load of shite 🤷‍♀️

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/11/2018 20:00

That is so true Hojas.

Unihorn · 26/11/2018 20:00

@A580Hojas I find they're mostly put up by people who love Christmas actually. I'd have mine up all year around if it was socially acceptable.

A580Hojas · 26/11/2018 20:02

These threads exasperate me. All the people who spend 3 months of the year thinking about Christmas ... YOU are the ones who are driving the relentless, perpetual flogging and marketing of Christmas that drives the rest of us insane. Why isn't it possible to go shopping in November without hearing Christmas muzak in the shops? Why is every TV advert from Nov 01 to Dec 24 about Christmas? It's because of unimaginative fuckers like you. It does very much impact on those of us who aren't obsessed with it.

DavetheCat2001 · 26/11/2018 20:03

Look on the bright side..a month from now it'll all be over! Grin

isseywithcats · 26/11/2018 20:16

just because i put my tree up one week early dosent mean i drive commercialism, i give my grandchildren money for christmas, buy my sons lynx sets about a week before christmas and buy my daughters present at the same time as the boys, and my other half bought tickets to see wishbone ash last week and have bought him an aftershave he likes, dont think my christmas spending is going to influence anything this year lol

dropthemic · 26/11/2018 20:27

Me and dh have had a horrendous year, with more than one major unexpected death of close family members. We put up our tree earlier enough to be considered "chavvy" by some previous posters. We felt like we needed to make the house feel cosy and remind of us being excited children for Christmas, instead of two adults drained from the realities of life. I know that might sound dramatic but I've found connecting with things I loved as a kid has helped with the grief.
We haven't put anything outside the house but once it's December we will. My tree gives me a lot of happiness looking at and it's not effecting anyone.

Screamqueenz · 26/11/2018 20:36

Ours went up this Sunday, I love the fact that makes me "chavvy". If it's good enough for the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire......

Unihorn · 26/11/2018 20:53

I agree with isseywithcats our tree is up for 6-7 weeks but we don't exchange presents with anyone, just buy presents for our three children (from Father Christmas) and get our parents a gift card for a nice meal or show. I just like pretty lights, markets and Christmas music.

Well you're a barrel of laughs aren't you?

Hoisinduck · 26/11/2018 23:42

I love it, our Christmas tree is up and it brings us much joy! We have all been ill and the weather is grim, my dd finds the little decorations endlessly amusing.

HelenaDove · 26/11/2018 23:45

We have a bloke along the main road at the top whose tree and lights including all over the house outside goes up on the 10 November every year It doesnt matter what day of the week it is or what the weather is like..................up it all goes.

Darkestnight · 26/11/2018 23:49

I've stuck mine up early due to having my only spare time due to working pt and caring for my disabled dd and other stuff. I take it down boxing day

BeekyChitch · 26/11/2018 23:51

YABVVVU. Don’t listen to me though I become an Elf on November 1st.

Dairyqueen2 · 26/11/2018 23:58

People are influenced by the shops and TV I think, so as soon as they go all Christmassy (ie 1st Nov) then it MUST be Christmas, so let's follow suit ..
I am Old SCHOOL, though, and although not being particularly religious, I like the ritual of Advent. It's the waiting that's fun ... Trees up before December, I'm afraid, is a class indicator, like it or not.

HelenaDove · 26/11/2018 23:59

i dont put up a tree but i do put up some Christmas ornaments along a shelf.

i have a West Highland terrier stocking holder and a couple of Santa ornaments which includes one where you open the door and he is in the shower using a body brush.

user1471426142 · 27/11/2018 07:44

Just put ours up. Only free weekend to do it. My normal cut-off would be 1 December but I’d rather go early than leave it really late. It’s just personal preference at the end of the day isn’t it. I can never understand people who put the tree up on Christmas Eve. I’d rather get my money’s worth.

LagunaBubbles · 27/11/2018 08:29

Nope, sorry to burst your judgemental bubble but I'm never sick of Christmas, tree stays up till January, I'm sad when I have to bring the decorations down and Boxing Day is for curling up on front of the tree and TV eating leftovers. My idea of hell is the sales!

Ski4130 · 27/11/2018 08:37

Hilarious. Judging someone on when they put their tree shows a distinct lack of class, so whilst you may hold off until advent to put your tree up, any class you think you may have gained, slip quietly into the ether Grin

nottakingthisanymore · 27/11/2018 08:40

who cares about class?

Helenp81 · 27/11/2018 08:50

I put my tree up the first weekend of December, unlucky for my husband it happens to fall on the 1st this year, it comes down on New Year’s Day. The rest of the decorations go up the weekend after normally but I have an extra excuse this year to put it all up at once as we are having a family Christmas dinner on 2nd due to in laws going to Australia to spend Christmas with the new grandson.
I love Christmas, I’m still like a big kid at the grand age of 36, I turn 37 on Christmas Eve so Christmas is always filled with very happy memories for me.
