AIBU TO DISLIKE PEOPLE WHO CALL CHILDREN 'KIDS'

Just that really. I just find it unpleasant and my DD7 corrects people she has heard on TV call children kids as she knows that 'kids' are baby goats.

OP posts:
RomanyRoots · 26/11/2018 14:57

I call my kids all sorts, children, little herberts, kids, sprogs, poppet, etc.
Sometimes I remember their names.
I think I'd be really embarrassed if mine started correcting people's use of an acceptable term.
I bet the corrected think it's bad parenting at best.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 26/11/2018 15:15

I also like bairns and on the dialect I am fully aware I did not give birth to farm outhouses and nor did I name all my children Ben.

YABU and I would hate to spend a day getting sooooo upset about a non issue.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 26/11/2018 15:15

*and depending on the dialect

sonandhelpneeded · 26/11/2018 16:30

Where's OP? Is it milking time for the kids?

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 26/11/2018 16:42

You took the words out of my mouth almost, multi. Perhaps that's where OP is, encouraging DD as she corrects The Pretenders on Top of the Pops reruns?

And, let's not forget, it's Child Creole and The Coconuts.

sonandhelpneeded · 26/11/2018 19:39

@BlackBeltInChildWrangling GrinGrin

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 26/11/2018 22:13

Come on, OP. Come back. We'll understand if it was drunk typing at 2am.

We'll handle you with kid gloves. We promise.

Jaffacakebeast · 26/11/2018 22:55

I’d find your kid very rude and pedantic 🙄

Queenofthedrivensnow · 26/11/2018 22:58

Yanbu to teach your child to correct adults.

Spottycake · 26/11/2018 23:10

Haven’t read the whole thread, but I think anyone who shouts unnecessarily is unreasonable.

TheVanguardSix · 26/11/2018 23:13

I use kids. I use guys. But it works with my Californian accent. I can get away with it.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 26/11/2018 23:29

Wow. Just wow.

Monty27 · 27/11/2018 05:49

Some of these posts are a bit gruff.
My kids' nanny often takes them for a trot round the hill for a veggie munch. They hoof it because theyre hungry. They bleat on while they're waiting for her Wink

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 27/11/2018 16:19

Very good! 🐐

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 27/11/2018 17:02

I've just seen a BBC News report that signs have been vandalised overnight in Worcestershire, Oxfordshire and London, correcting place names to Childerminster, Childlington, Childlington Hall and Childerpore Green. Witnesses say an irate woman and a kid aged about 7 have been seen running away.

So that's where the OP's been hiding. Wink

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 27/11/2018 17:07

(Must've been Billy The Child).

ImpendingDisaster · 27/11/2018 18:24

Nicely done. Wink

Goldenbug · 28/11/2018 08:35

Let's stick together. If the users of "kids" are united we will never be devided.

kateandme · 28/11/2018 08:44

Do we think the op come back. how must it feel to have 11 pages of the people having a go at you eek.

ApplesinmyPocket · 28/11/2018 09:47

I think of happy skippy little things when I hear/say 'kids'. I'm not that bothered that OP dislikes me

Wink
BlackBeltInKidWrangling · 28/11/2018 15:45

I am feeling particularly rebellious today.

ElizabethMainwaring · 28/11/2018 19:11

Butt out of everyone.
(Or is it 'but'?)

ElizabethMainwaring · 28/11/2018 19:12

Insert 'it'. Sorry.

dogsdinnerlady · 28/11/2018 19:39

Kids are sweet little animals. They eat everything, are very curious about stuff and smell a bit. It's affectionate and harmless. I like it.

BrightStarrySky · 28/11/2018 19:42

My kid says ‘guys’ all the time. Sounds weird but cute coming from a 3 year old kid.
