To be fed up of being fed up of food?

Do you ever get to that point? You know, where you are just so... uninspired by food?

I dont know what I want to eat, and I've been like it a while... every damn meal is turning into eating because I know I should, not because I actually want to eat it.

I've a house full of food.. and I dont really want any of it.

Give it all to a food bank then..you know to someone who might appreciate it....

Abishai · 24/11/2018 13:30

I’ve been in tears today because if I want to do a food shop this week I’ll have to put it on the credit card. Google some bloody recipes.

Squidgee · 24/11/2018 13:35

I'm not about to empty my house and donate it all to a food bank, dont be ridiculous.

I'm talking about just being uninspired and not actually enjoying eating at the moment.. dont need virtue signalling at thanks.

Abishi, its not a matter of just googling recipes, I know how to cook thanks.. I just dont want anything.

I'm missing that feeling of looking forward to eating something.

Make a sweet thing, like crumble or cake? It always works for me!

Abishai · 24/11/2018 13:37

Oh well in that case I’m not sure what to say other than “poor you, how awful for you” and try one of these - Biscuit

Birdsgottafly · 24/11/2018 13:37

OP what do you think has caused this?

Have you lost appetite or are you just fed up?

You can get in a food rut.

Sunshineandshowers81 · 24/11/2018 13:38

I get like that as well. I find if I do a couple of weeks of a recipe box (I use gousto but there are others) it tends to get me out of the rut

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/11/2018 13:39

I'm like that atm too squidgee which is annoying as I love cooking, just don't want to eat anything

Houseonahill · 24/11/2018 13:40

I know what you mean OP I'm not sure what's with all the sarky comments. Don't know how to fix it but I go through stages like this too.

Birdsgottafly · 24/11/2018 13:40

Abishai, you really think thays worth crying over?

How dare you when there are people dying of starvation, even in rich countries.

Don't be so bloody condescending.

MrsStrowman · 24/11/2018 13:40

I'm eight and a half months pregnant and have gestational diabetes, I would kill to be able to cook a lovely meal or do some baking, instead it's all small amounts of wholegrain rice with green veg and plain chicken/fish.
Try something you've never cooked or eaten before.

Unicornandbows · 24/11/2018 13:42

Im pregnant with HG and I know exactly what you mean. Even when you manage to pick something it doesn't even taste like how you imagined it.

Pregnancy aside I feel like this whenever I'm feeling a bit low or I'm stressed about something.

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/11/2018 13:44

I'm actually underweight and need to see a dietician, I just can't eat enough at all.

tofupanda · 24/11/2018 13:44

For some people stress and depression can lead to over eating or under eating. My experience is if you don't have an appetite eat regular meals, and snacks, on automatic pilot if necessary. Even have the same (balanced) diet everyday so you don't have to think about it. Just treat food as medicine. And eat anything you fancy, don't rule out any food groups. Combined with being physically active this might help you get through this patch. Overthinking can make it worse IME

WeirdHandDryers · 24/11/2018 13:47

There are some fucking ridiculous comments on here. What, people are not allowed to go off food now because there are hungry people somewhere else? What next? You can’t be pissed if with a bad hair day because there are some people with no hair? Bore off.

OP, I’m the same, we seem to eat the same shit day in and day out. Every week it’s tgdcsame standard meals and it does mess with your appetite. YANBU

Storm4star · 24/11/2018 13:49

I think you’ve been given a hard time OP. I do actually know exactly what you mean. Some nights I end up just eating a cheese toastie or something because there’s nothing I really fancy. When people post threads about what they’re having for dinner, I read them looking for inspiration! I definitely eat because I should rather than because I want to. I’m not sure what the answer is though!

I’m sorry to the people who are struggling to buy food, but I really don’t feel the OPs intentions were bad when posting this. It’s the same as someone maybe saying they are fed up with their decor and people saying “well at least you have a roof over your head”. That may be true but we all know someone who is worse off than ourselves. Doesn’t stop things bothering us though.

Seriousquestion09 · 24/11/2018 13:52

Op can I suggest pininterest lots of ideas on there! I love looking up the vegan recipes too and at this time of year very inspiring with not so “far out” ingredients too

PoisonousSmurf · 24/11/2018 13:57

Maybe go on a fast for 16 hours? I find that my appetite will come back if I don't eat for a long while.

SillyPsychicAcid · 24/11/2018 14:01

And YABU not even to countenance a food bank donation when your cup runneth hover.

Serialweightwatcher · 24/11/2018 14:05

What sort of food do you usually like OP? You need something really tasty and interesting to get your mojo going again

Topseyt · 24/11/2018 14:13

I think I know what you mean, and there is no need for the sarky and snide comments over it. Those are sanctimonious and can bugger right off.

I do quite often find I have a fair amount of good food in, but nothing that inspires me. Even if I have planned out the meals. I eat because I know I ought to on those days.

I guess it is a fed up kind of feeling. Sometimes I have even been known to wander round the supermarket looking for inspiration, which is usually a big mistake.

NoSquirrels · 24/11/2018 14:17

Completely understand - I’m a bit like this at the moment. It’s hard because if you’re a “food is fuel” person then it’s a non-problem, but when you usually really enjoy cooking and eating for pleasure it’s a real loss, somehow. It’s the monotony of always being responsible for a whole family’s meals and likes and dislikes that does it for me.

Flowers OP, and Flowers also for PPs who are struggling to provide food at all - that’s a whole different and more shitty set of circumstances.

Willofthesimpletons · 24/11/2018 14:20

I never fancy meals really. It's alien to me. I think there must be something wrong. I definitely eat because I should rather than because I want to.

This doesn't necessarily apply to sweet crap, unfortunately. Just proper meals/lunches.

Have you always been like it or is it a new thing? I've definitely always had this tendency but it's made worse by cooking the same old family food day in day out.

JurassicGirl · 24/11/2018 14:20

I definately know what you mean!

I buy the same stuff day in day out but when I go to my DP's they have loads of interesting bits. Interesting dips, vegan cheeses, crackers, olives, roasted peppers, interesting bread etc

It usually inspires me to go shopping!

Also if I watch some cooking programmes it makes me hungry.

There are loads of Christmas cooking tv shows or videos on You Tube that might get your mind going & your mouth watering!

Squidgee · 24/11/2018 14:35

I never said my cup runneth over thanks.. I have enough for us to eat, not to give to other people. Hmm

As to questions.. I go through phases of it, but this one has pretty much been here for a couple of months, I feel like i'm just going through the motions of eating, rather than actually enjoying it.

My DS has an eating disorder and my DD is going the same way (Autism) so I only have to feed me as I am not living off Pizza and chicken nuggets.

I've go a slow cooker so I make a lot stews and chicken/rice dishes.
I usually eat pasta quite a bit.

I've tried mixing it up, trying new things, just eating lightly for a bit...etc. I just cant shake it.
