To be fed up of being fed up of food?

Do you ever get to that point? You know, where you are just so... uninspired by food?

I dont know what I want to eat, and I've been like it a while... every damn meal is turning into eating because I know I should, not because I actually want to eat it.

I've a house full of food.. and I dont really want any of it.

Ripple, i'm cooking 2-3 meals every night. 9/10 DD will eat what DS is eating, but I feel guilty for restricting her more than necessary as she's a little more willing to try things than he is, but doesn't eat what I do either.

Most meals that we can all eat are pasta based and i'm trying to cut my carb intake down as i'm overweight.. their meals are very fatty/calorie full and stuffed full of hidden veg to get the nutrition in that they need as neither eat fruit/veg willingly.. but I dont need that calorie load so i'm either eating a tiny portion or having to cook my own dinners on top of theirs.

With it being colder now i'm making more stews/casseroles, and they're nice and filling but it just all feels beige...

For fuxsakes, I cannot believe some of the snarky comments on this thread! What about chips, OP?
There seem to be plenty hanging about on folks' shoulders here.

Maegeri · 24/11/2018 17:13

So glad I’m not the only one feeling like this. I have felt like this for about 2 years now and it really gets me down. I worked out that it is due to cooking for the family for years and I am just fed up with the whole process. In the last month I have started to have a meal a week that I enjoy but that was after going on holiday and not having to shop or cook for a week. My advice is, if you are able, try and get some help with menu planning and cooking if at all possible. The break might help. (Also fed up with not being able to talk about it with anyone as you get the sarcastic responses like the ones earlier in the thread).

HidingFromMyKids · 24/11/2018 17:13

I'm with you OP I've been like this since I had campylobactor, turned out I was a few weeks pregnant too.
I went off meat and don't fancy anything else. I'm now 31 weeks and everything gives me extreme indigestion anyway!
It's hard to follow a veggie diet while avoiding onions, peppers, any tomatoes/sauce, pastry etc etc.
I've also got to cater for allergies/food aversion and DP and his ability to eat about 5000 calories a day while staying super slim Angry

Squidgee
I'll be watching Strictly too, I have a huge inappropriate crush on AJ Grin

Food is only exciting when you're truly hungry.

Fast for 12 hours, then go for a 3 mile run.
No food yet, Take a shower & clean house deeply for 2 hours.

At this point, Food will have become an Extremely Interesting Thing. Low salt low sugar beans on low salt wholemeal toast will be the best thing you ever ate in your life.

missionofmercy · 24/11/2018 17:46

Eat to live is something I have to do now. No appetite for anything really. Soup works, so does full fat Greek yogurt with fruit, Weetabix, porridge, scrambled eggs, baked potato maybe.

But as for a full meal, nope. I don't know why, but I just fill myself with easy calories and can't be bothered cooking anything much anymore.

Might be depression/anxiety, but I feel ok, just haven't got the goo for anything now. But I ain't losing weight either, just trying to eat easy, without the crap. Whatever works. There are no rules.

Squidgee · 24/11/2018 17:49

I wish that worked, unfortunately it doesn't because even absolutely ravenous I open the fridge, stare at the contents, then go drink tea.. or cake/sweets.

I regularly go 14-18 hours without eating.

Asks for responses, gets them, gets arsey about responses she/he gets. Delightful.

She was getting some daft responses though.

Can you imagine if someone came on and asked “am I BU to be sick to the back teeth of this year’s fashion being drainpipe/pink jeans?”

and the responses were “well, at least you’ve GOT legs to put the jeans on, you ungrateful, insensitive monster?? Some people don’t have legs.” etc, etc.

tofupanda · 24/11/2018 17:55

Are you restricting in those 14 -18 hours Squidgee ? Or just not hungry? And then when you realise you are ravenous it's too late too make something because you need it right there and then?

ihatethecold · 24/11/2018 18:02

I completely get you op.
Ive lost the will to live feeding the family and most night don't bother eating dinner anymore.

indieshuffle · 24/11/2018 18:03

Sounds like you need someone to come and care for you for a bit OP. It is no wonder that cooking has become joyless for you and you must be exhausted. Flowers And it isn't as if you get anyone to enthuse with over the food you slave over.

I get like it from time to time, er actually fairly often! (am a carer so also tired and stressed) and my favourite easy meal has become chicken salad with red pepper and a bit of sweet chilli sauce.

Just roughly chopped little gem lettuce or similar, chop cucumber, red pepper, chop chicken breast (from a roasted chicken) and throw on a plate. Sweet chilli sauce for a bit of spice. And mayo. I don't add anything else, just keep it simple so it isn't overwhelming and uses minimal imagination.

Is delicious and refreshing and very easy. And it feels more way more luxurious than the effort it cost which makes it a real winner! I always forget how easy it is. Would something like that help?

Squidgee · 24/11/2018 18:06

tofu, a bit of both tbh.

Some days its just that i'm not hungry, other days its because i'm so wrapped up in everything going on that I just forget to eat and then i'm starving by the time I notice Im actually hungry.... but then still dont want what I've got to eat >.

I think you just have to be a bit stricter with yourself. I have to give myself a good talking to often, as I tend to do the same. My needs and my DC needs are similar to you and yours. But if I skip meals, or don't eat sufficient, I tend to then grab whatever is available. If I stick to a plan, like I would for my DC then I feel much better, not just physically, but mentally too. You're as much a priority as your DC.

Randomusername01 · 24/11/2018 18:11

OP I know exactly what you mean, I have days when I just don't fancy eating anything in my cupboards or freezer. It's kinda like a food rut. It usually passes after a few days but I let dp cook meals in that time as I just go from staring at the cupboard to staring at the fridge freezer wondering what to eat.

Littlechocola · 24/11/2018 18:23

Do you smoke op?

(You absolutely don’t deserve the bashing you’ve had)

lljkk · 24/11/2018 18:28

Cake, tea, sweets have loads of calories in them. Easy to fill up on those.
How many minutes aerobic exercise do you do each day, OP?

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/11/2018 18:28

What does smoking have to do with anything?

VibeTribe · 24/11/2018 18:31

I can’t believe what a hard time you’ve been given Hmm
I know exactly what you mean, for me it’s the time of year. There’s so many new things in the shops and being shoved in our faces on telly, I’m just fed up of the sight of food!

lljkk · 24/11/2018 18:36

Smoking can suppress appetite fairly well.

RiddleyW · 24/11/2018 18:37

The only time I had this I was depressed - obviously it wasn’t the only symptom.

fruityb · 24/11/2018 18:44

It really does get a bit four Yorkshireman on here sometimes!

CupoBlood · 24/11/2018 18:48

Do you think it could be because food is such a battle/issue with the dc?

randomsabreuse · 24/11/2018 18:54

I get it. Unless I plan something to eat and it actually needs to be eaten that day (going out of date, out of the freezer and defrosted) it's so easy to just give up, especially if you're restricted in what you can have.

Getting out of the "meh" is so bloody hard!

I'm struggling with motivation to eat anything other than spiced biscuits at the moment as back to avoiding dairy egg and soya for my new baby. I have much to be thankful for but still get the meh about food and cooking as all I can think about is what I can't eat rather than what I can!

Squidgee · 24/11/2018 18:57

No I dont smoke.

I dont get proper exercise either, I have a spinal disorder and subsequent mobility issues that mean I use a walking stick and occasionally crutches on a bad day. I am seeing a physio so what exercise I do get is under supervision/approval.
