To be fed up of being fed up of food?

Do you ever get to that point? You know, where you are just so... uninspired by food?

I dont know what I want to eat, and I've been like it a while... every damn meal is turning into eating because I know I should, not because I actually want to eat it.

I've a house full of food.. and I dont really want any of it.

Can you go swimming? I can't imagine my life without regular aerobic exercise. Some of the most crippled people I know are pretty good swimmers.

masterandmargarita · 24/11/2018 19:00

I wouldn't cook more than one meal per night

lljkk · 24/11/2018 19:02

... but if I did stop exercising, I'd just stop eating, pretty much. That's what middle age means. Have to work to get any appetite.

If you only want cake/sweets then you could at least have fruit & seeds instead. Would be healthier for you.

I can understand the frustration. If you're always cooking for others and it's never what you want to eat it'll soon make things boring. I guess you don't have much motivation left for your own meal. Recipe apps are helpful for me, regularly updated, lots more than a recipe book.

llykk I do swim when I can, I used to go regularly but its dropped off a bit at the moment i'm struggling with the dark/wet mornings as I have to go while the DC's are at school, which with our pool only leaves me with 9-10 in the morning.
I do try and avoid the sweets, I have yogurts and cereals and grapes and bananas that I will pick up, I do also eat salads a fair bit, just gone off those recently too which sucks.

master, I would LOVE to only cook one meal, but because of my childrens disabilities its not an option. I can't live on the severely restrictive diet they subsist on, and they would starve rather than eat what I do.

I totally get this too. I end up wandering round the supermarket in a daze not knowing what the hell to buy. We're always running out of food and it's purely due to my total lack of inspiration (and organisation)

I often end up with soup for dinner with bread and cheese. The kids get pasta and pesto with green veg. Dullsville.

dustarr73 · 24/11/2018 19:37

Im lucky my kids eat most things,so its not that.I think its the boredom of having to think of what to cook.

So what i have been doing the last few weeks is writing my dinners down for the week.Takes the thinking out of what to be having. So it s Monday i know its sheperds pie.So that makes it easier.

Or i cook and enjoy my dinner first while the kids are in school. It means im not interupted with kids annoying me..So i do enjoy it more.

I totally get where you’re coming from OP. I was on a very strict exercise & nutrition programme with a PT last year and while I lost 2 1/2 stone, I now can’t bear any of those meals. I’m sick to death of everything turkey or chicken and find myself craving everything I was denied...and put some of the weight back on as a result! I can very rarely be arsed cooking properly even on my days off and the thought of leftovers for the next days lunch just makes me 🤢. A quick, easy meal I love is steak with Caesar salad, takes about 5 minutes (depending on how you like your steak) or chicken breasts stuffed with quark and wrapped in bacon with veg.

Do you feel refluxy at all? Just wondered. I normally love food but went off it for a few months a while back and after seeing the GP it turned out my stomach acidity had changed, hence I went completely off the food I normally eat (all I wanted to eat was very green apples and tomato soup). In my case it was a complication of endometriosis, but a lot of conditions can give you reflux and it makes everything taste odd.

ForAMinuteThere · 24/11/2018 20:19

I agree, having to sort dinner every night is my least favourite part of a day. It's so boring and food doesn't excite me at all. I do it to function not to enjoy.

I do appreciate that I can cook dinner of course, I don't think OP needs a roasting (pardon the pun) there.

Would your children eat meatballs in a tasty gravy? The Hairy Bikers recipe is delicious (it uses a little wine/port/sherry but alcohol gets burnt off and just adds to flavour) - I made it the other night with mash .. my 15 year old is super fussy and his meals are so boring - my DH hates pasta/rice and would eat pie and chips every day so I get bored with cooking ... had an Indian last night for the first time in years and it was so tasty. It gets to be a chore and you have lots going on to deal with which is probably why .. this is the recipe - I used bought raw meatballs this time because I couldn't be bothered Sad
