The space bar, did you know?

So I have just discovered by holding down the space bar on my phone keyboard, I can move the cursor to wherever I want on my message....

This will save me hours of frustration and having to undo loads of text I actually want!

I thought I'd share, but maybe you all already knew abs didn't tell me?

I told DH earlier as he was texting someone and I saw him faffing trying to delete a word. Of course, I did it dead casual giving the impression it was something I've known since forever with my far superior keyboard skills. He hates not being the expert when it comes to tech so he just grunted but I can see him out the corner of my eye doing it right now. Wait till I drop the double tap whammy on him!

They genuinely do make it difficult to get the cursor to go between the letters you want it to go between, for some reason. I remember when I first got an android phone being amazed how easy it suddenly was.

No. Not all phones. It doesn't work on my Samsung.
But my space bar switches between two languages.

Using my finger I can correct letters in words too, so no need for clumsy space bar gimmicks.

Well I never knew that. It is much easier than trying to tap the screen! Especially if you’re trying to tap quite close to where it already is, it doesn’t take any notice.

I don’t use the App so it might not work, BUT, on my phone and iPad I type the user name (or anything else) in the

this works, and has done for the last 3 years or so, on the standard Android keyboard (Gboard). Provided you have 'glide typing' switched on in settings.
Incidentally if you do the same on the delete key it deletes characters and words, depending on how far you swipe.
Both are controlled under Keyboard settings/glide typing

If I press the space bar, all I get is a space! However, I can tap anywhere within the text of what I'm writing (including in the middle of words) to put the cursor there and make amendments when required.

@ILoveTreesInAutumn thank you! I can get it to work on the desktop version your way, that will save many frustrating hours paging back through. That's 2 really useful things I've learnt on this thread alone. Can go to sleep happy in my new found knowledge 😀

Oh that’s quite handy. I’ve always just tapped where I want the cursor to go but sometimes it then does the word lookup which is annoying.

Did you know that if you type a load of crap you don't want, you can just shake your phone and then can undo what you've just done without having to backspace/delete!?

TheDogAteMySock I’m glad it helps a bit. Bugger it doesn’t work on the App. I just use the desktop version on my phone as I prefer it. Keep asking on different threads, someone will know!
