The space bar, did you know?

So I have just discovered by holding down the space bar on my phone keyboard, I can move the cursor to wherever I want on my message....

This will save me hours of frustration and having to undo loads of text I actually want!

I thought I'd share, but maybe you all already knew abs didn't tell me?

Thank you OP, that's the second thing I've learned this week that everyone else already knew and kept from me - bastards I didn't know before. The other was that you can put your fries in one side of those little boxes that burgers come in from fast food outlets in stead of them falling out of those useless sleeves all over the table. Genius!

And I've never wanted to use swiftkey...the warning that they are going to read all my details if my life puts me off.

I do like text replacement though. I've only just realised I had that.

The space bar thing isn't that great. You do all know you can tap the space bar twice to get a full stop and a space, don't you?

I tried not to use an iPhone. But when I looked at the alternatives none of them were nearly as good.

Such useful tip ! - tapping with my unuseful tips ( ie on my fingers) is often inaccurate - just by one letter but a bit tsk -worthy at the time.

Just tested it wooo, I did not know this. I find holding down on the word to zoom in and move the cursor that way is annoying so the spacebar thing is genius

Just google ‘iPhone hacks’ there’s loads that your iPhones can do!! You’ll be surprised! (By the ways there’s loads of these articles but all say the same!)

This reconfirms my belief that iPhones are crap.

On a completely different note, but as we're on the subject of helpful tips, on the Mumsnet app, is it possible to search back through a thread for a particular user name. I get really frustrated when posters write someone's user name followed by a grin... Then, I have to manually scroll back through looking for that person to see what they'd said. Is there an easy way of searching on iOS app?

Nope! another discovery!!

The space bar doesn't work for me four times out of five, but I have now learnt I can tap on the text I'm editing and get a cursor I can drag to the right place.

My lack of phone keyboard expertise is because I generally avoid typing text on the phone. I even send my SMS's from a PC using a full size keyboard. If something isn't urgent enough that I need to make a phone call, it can wait until I've got a proper keyboard to type on.

If you press and hold your finger over the text you get a little bubble of enlarged text and you can drag the cursor wherever you want. No need for the space bar at all.

Disclaimer: I'm on an iPad and might not be running the latest iOS.
