To think that parents who don't vaccinate their children are despicable

Just that. And I think they ought to be sanctioned in some way similar to in Australia. Children shouldn't suffer because of parents' stupidity

WoodpeckersAreWood
My parents had a car without seatbelts and they used to smoke in the car.

Funnily enough I don't smoke, have a car with seat belts and wouldn't put kids in a confined space with smoke.

Maybe I'm wrong. After all, it was fine then and my grandparents smoked too. One of them lived into their 80s so clearly smoking doesn't cause health issues.

This is a fun thread. People get so angry about so little these days.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/11/2018 15:19

Yeah vaccinations are just so inconsequential.... nothing worth getting worked up about 🙄
Jeez

FishCanFly · 24/11/2018 15:20

not all vaccines are necessary, plus things depend on a region. And when "educated" folk spout out stuff - so what if vaccinated child get ill anyway? they will get a milder form and miss less days in school... yeah, right. good argument.

CecilyP · 24/11/2018 15:21

I was fairly sure they'd be fine and I'd rather not worry about them getting it later in life. I know a lot of anti vaxxers feel the same about Measles ('take some homeopathic remedies and it will be fine') but my point is maybe I'm just as selfish as they are in a sense.

No, it is a genuine thing that chicken pox is a much nastier illness to catch as an adult, as I know from personal experience. I don't think that applies to other diseases , with the possible exception of mumps. In the days before vaccination, I never actually met anyone who had measles as an adult so possibly epidemics caught just about everyone.

Side-splittingly fun, babe.

nellieellie · 24/11/2018 15:27

I think people who feed their kids crap processed food all the time and sit them in front of a screen all day should be...let’s see...what have people suggested...deported(!), fined, imprisoned, ...oh hang on , it’s a free country though isn’t it?
Still, just think all that nhs treatment they take up in later life with the diabetes, heart disease, obesity related issues, depression.
Best just not be judgemental eh?

Pimpernell · 24/11/2018 15:28

Silly false equivalence.

If my kid eats McNuggets or watches some TV it doesn’t pose an actual risk to another child...

formerbabe · 24/11/2018 15:30

diabetes, heart disease, obesity related issues, depression

None of these are communicable or contagious.

Hth.

Carpetglasssofa · 24/11/2018 15:31

The risks of vaccination are less than the risks of not vaccinating.

Anyway.

LizzieBennettDarcy · 24/11/2018 15:34

I don't think they are despicable. But they are selfish and small minded.

I personally think children shouldn't be able to attend schools and playgroups without vaccination.

My middle DD was incredibly ill from whooping cough she caught despite being vaccinated. She ended up with fractured ribs from coughing, and was incredibly unwell for nearly 2 months. There is no reason for these diseases to around when we can vaccinate against.

Eastie77 · 24/11/2018 15:41

@OffToBedhampton - fully understand why you'd want to be forewarned. I'll be honest though and say that it never occurred to me to tell any friends or acquaintances that my 2 were not vaccinated against Chicken Pox. I assumed they also viewed it as a relatively harmless childhood illness. My American friend was a singular exception. Now both DC have had it it's a moot point but most people I know still talk about CP with a shrug and 'well at least they've had it now and it's out of the way' if their kids catch it.

Just out of interest, as explained I consulted NHS guidelines when deciding not to vaccinate. Do you think their advice is wrong (as you mention I'm not seeing the bigger picture)?

AnnieHawk · 24/11/2018 15:44

I caught meningitis as a child, long before the vaccination was offered. I'm partially deaf, getting deafer and have appalling tinnitus. I'm also now fortunate enough to be immunocompromised. What is a simple illness to many is months trying to fight my way to health for me. If there is no compelling medical contraindication then everyone should vaccinate.

BakedBeans47 · 24/11/2018 15:50

He has actually told me in the past that he did a lot of research on the matter before blindly committing to not vaccinate.

I don’t mean to be rude but I’d be surprised if after 2 years of primary education he’d developed the skills and ability to be able to do that.

mumsastudent · 24/11/2018 15:56

CeciliaP mumps in adults can cause infertility & among other side effects, pancreatitis (an adult relative got this when he contracted mumps - he was very ill & hospitalized)

Pinkyyy · 24/11/2018 15:57

BakedBeans47 I suppose you'd also be surprised if I told you that he has successfully raised 4 DC, started a company with a lot of employees and makes 7 figures? How about the fact that he reads hundreds of books or the fact that he's very into politics? He's got far more advanced skills and abilities than those I see trotting around universities thinking of ways to scrape money for vodka.

JacquesHammer · 24/11/2018 15:59

I wouldn’t be surprised. People who are clever in some ways can be desperately ignorant in others.

BakedBeans47 · 24/11/2018 16:01

Where’s he got all this marvellous education from after only 2 years of primary school? If his parents only supported him being educated for 2 years, I’m guessing they’re hardly educated themselves.

He’s clearly an intelligent man from what you’ve posted but he’s also by your own admission uneducated

Weetabixandshreddies · 24/11/2018 16:03

Pinkyyy

I think you are missing the point.

Would you support any of us if we made a choice that risked the lives of you or your children?

So is it ok for me to drink drive? It's my choice surely? Why should I consider the risk to innocent bystanders so long as I am doing what I choose to do?

Is that ok?

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/11/2018 16:03

I've attended 3 universities and worked at 2...I've never seen anyone trotting around finding ways to scrape for vodka. What a bizarre sentence.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/11/2018 16:05

*Scrape money

Pinkyyy · 24/11/2018 16:05

The two of you are being very rude and frankly offensive. His parents had no education at all, as was absolutely normal for travellers of that time. How dare you try and ask me to give you reasons why my father isn't stupid.

BishopBrennansArse · 24/11/2018 16:06

I ask this every time and I'm interested in responses as I have been told before that DD should have been sacrificed for the greater good 😮

My two oldest children are fully vaccinated by the way.

DD collapsed after the 5 in 1 vaccination. The manufacturer told us not to proceed with further vaccination with the 5 in 1 as it could kill her. The NHS refuse to give any other vaccine schedule on cost grounds. We can't afford to go private. So she's not vaccinated. I'm about to appeal this decision for the third time via public health England.

Should DD face all the penalties gleefully listed in this thread?

Oh and people who have the views shown in the first sentence I judge more harshly than those who don't vaccinate by the way. Because I know damn well if it was their kid they wouldn't kill them for the greater good.
