I’m working late 2 nights this week so Wednesday and Thursday DH Is collecting the children and making their tea. In the fridge are the following: a bag of spinach and cheese tortellini, a carton of fresh pasta sauce, some sausages, broccoli and new potatoes.
I got home last night to find he had cooked the sausages and chopped them up and added them to the tortellini and pasta sauce.
Is it just me, or does anyone else see the problem with that?

It’s not ridiculous. We have (veggie) sausage pasta a lot.

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2018 16:12

Cooking the potatoes and putting them in with the pasta would have bern wrong.

ErickBroch · 22/11/2018 16:12

Guessing this is a waste of food? I mean, it's slightly annoying but that's all..

pumpkinpie01 · 22/11/2018 16:12

No not at all I sometimes put pasta and sausages together , did the DC eat it ?

Sirzy · 22/11/2018 16:12

Nope not getting the issue. Sausage in with pasta is lovely

Sparklingbrook · 22/11/2018 16:12

Does this mean there's just broccoli and new potatoes for tonight's tea?

LostInShoebiz · 22/11/2018 16:12

I’m struggling to see the issue. Enlighten us.

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 22/11/2018 16:12

And the problem is?

MaryofMislethwaiteManor · 22/11/2018 16:12

Because he could have made two meals if not used the sausages?

Maybe he wanted to make it a bit more ‘meal like’.

I mean, he’s an adult. I probably wouldn’t get wound up about it. He’ll just get something else. If you’re not there, why try and control what he cooks?!

firawla · 22/11/2018 16:12

My dh would have done the same thing, I don’t see a big issue

user187656748 · 22/11/2018 16:13

Nope, nothing wring with that. Mine are having sausage and roasted tomato pasta with garlic bread this evening.

Iwantplaits · 22/11/2018 16:13

It's not ridiculous.
But were you wanting to use the sausages with the new pots and broccoli?

Elllicam · 22/11/2018 16:13

It’s a bit odd, I would have separated them into 2 dinners. My DH is a bit of a one for using everything as well, so about 3 dinners get amalgamated into 1 mega dinner which has a ton of leftovers.

user187656748 · 22/11/2018 16:14

I will be chopping the sausages before cooking them though since its nicer that way

Littlebluebird123 · 22/11/2018 16:14

I don't think it's a problem to put sausages with the pasta.

But it is short sighted as you're left with potatoes and broccoli for tea the next time. Unless he's planning on shopping again or you have other food in the freezer...

Calzone · 22/11/2018 16:14

I would be puzzled as there are clearly 2 meals in the fridge and he has used too many ingredients for one meal.

I would be annoyed but dh would never do this.

He often says not to use something as it’s another meal.

Nicknamesalltaken · 22/11/2018 16:16

He’s made one meal with the ingredients for two.

What’s he planning for tonight then?

IHeartKingThistle · 22/11/2018 16:16

People can't see the problem with using food clearly meant for the second night's dinner in the first night's dinner? Did you read the same OP I did?

LostInShoebiz · 22/11/2018 16:17

Is it impossible for DH to arrange something else for the second night? Given his error has only been obvious to about half of the people responding, perhaps you could have been clearer about what was to be used on each night.

Emma765 · 22/11/2018 16:17

Mine would have made the sausages and ate them all while cooking the pasta and having dinner no.2 with the kids.

user187656748 · 22/11/2018 16:17

If that was all that was in the house I might have assumed it was two meals but how was he to know it was the complete components of two meals?

PurpleDaisies · 22/11/2018 16:18

People can't see the problem with using food clearly meant for the second night's dinner in the first night's dinner?

No problem, he just needs to buy something else (or get something from the freezer) to go with potatoes and broccoli.

Filled pasta never fills me up on its own. I’d usually put something else with it.

TenPastEleven · 22/11/2018 16:18

Yes - the ingredients are for 2 meals, in my view. I mean, it was nice, the children ate it, but using the two ‘main’ ingredients in the one meal meant there was far too much and a lot wasted. Plus leaves broccoli and potatoes for tonight. Or last night’s leftovers, but then the broccoli will be a bit past it’s best by tomorrow. I’m not ‘controlling’ what he cooks, I just think it’s kind of a wasteful and not very logical thing to do.

Notquiterichenough · 22/11/2018 16:19

I get it. And, yes, DH would've done the same. Potatoes and broccoli for tea tonight then. Unless he phones Domino's, which would be DH's solution.

Hedgehoginthefog · 22/11/2018 16:20

Nothing wrong with that meal, but I suppose you are saying that you could have got a second meal of sausages, potato and broccoli out of the fridge contents but I suppose it's up to your DH to plan/buy/defrost something else for tea tonight, so assuming he does this it depends how tight money is.
