Ok, so this has been discussed many a time, but nothing ever seems to change, every year, people still seem to enjoy adorning their homes with these eye bleeding, migraine inducing, brain splitting fuckers. Would you consider reforming your blue light ways for the sake of your fellow neighbours? Will you finally ‘see the light’ Wink and change to any other colour instead? Please? begging

Oh my gosh. All this time, I thought it was just me! They look all blurry to me, it's horrid.

CheeseTheDay · 22/11/2018 17:18

I put blue lights up for Hanukkah (blue and silver are the colours associated with the festival), and don't give a fuck what anyone else thinks.

Badtasteflump · 22/11/2018 17:32

happy I love the idea of Victoria Sponge Cake lights!

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 22/11/2018 18:36

But Cheese do you have 5000 lights covering the front of your house with umpteen multifunction that are on for the obligatory 6 hours every night? It's those migraine inducing ones we're grinching about.

ElizabethMainwaring · 22/11/2018 18:39

Yes! Yes! Like memoryofsleep, I thought it was just me!

ElizabethMainwaring · 22/11/2018 18:40

And in the centre of blue lights is an inner ref light. Odd.

ElizabethMainwaring · 22/11/2018 18:40

Red, not ref.

Warm white lights put me in mind of candles, champagne, fireflies.... cool blue-white puts me in mind of abbatoirs, morgues, and operating theatres!

Vandree · 22/11/2018 19:06

Down with flashing blue lights!!! Not only migraine inducing but last Christmas a family on our cul d sac suffered an awful tragedy. While it was being investigated by the armed units of our local police the street was closed down for nearly 3 days. There are only 20 houses but there were 8 armed units, 3 ambulances and a few plain clothes police in the street at one point and news vans parked at the end behind a barrier. There were blue flashing lights for at least 48 hours. Its such a quiet village it was totally out of the norm and I was alone with the kids with dh away for work it was really disconcerting to see the flashing lights outside the windows constantly. As a mark of respect the majority of our neighbours turned off their outside christmas lights and decorations and tree lights weren't turned on in the houses either, it didn't seem right. Except for the middle age couple right across from me who decided then was the right time to cover their house in blue flashing lights and keep them on until New Year. For weeks it was like the police/ambulance was still there and hugely disrespectful to our poor neighbours. So yeah, flashing blue lights are beyond awful.

MinecraftHolmes · 22/11/2018 19:39

I support this motion. Warm white or multicolour lights only.

Although I can see the benefit of blue lights for those who normally spend the festive season chasing druggies away from under their tree with a broom.

WinterfellWench · 22/11/2018 20:21

I agree they are a bit eye straining. If you have a bunch of outside lights, then say 10-15% of the lights being blue is OK. A couple of bushes with them on is OK, and say a tree or two.... (And if the rest of the lights should be twinkly white, and multi coloured.) But all blue is awful.

EG, pic 1 is good.

Pic 2 is badddddd!

A house near me has some gorgeous lights in their hedge. They're very soft greens and blues, and give an underwater effect.

3luckystars · 22/11/2018 21:48

Blue lights make me feel sick.

Alwaysasparklymoment99 · 22/11/2018 22:56

I like blue. At least its a cold colour. Red? I mean red on xmas trees - something satanic about it.

8misskitty8 · 22/11/2018 23:05

The folk opposite had blue lights on the tree in their front garden. It had different flashing patterns including one were the lights were vibrating. It was like a strobe effect.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/11/2018 23:16

All-blue lights are horrible. Ice-white aren't much better.

In our local Mountains-of-Christmas-Tat shop I found some non-LED, old fashioned twinkly coloured lights. I will be very happy with our tree this year - warm white and old fashioned twinkly coloured together.

Johnsi · 23/11/2018 00:46

I agree, OP, especially if they're flashing blue lights; makes me think of emergency vehicles.

CarolsSecretCookieRecipe · 23/11/2018 02:39

The problem is indeed global.

Here in Oz bluelight adorned houses are very popular, together with disco projector thingys that project pulsating light shows onto people's garage doors. Inflatable Santas up and down driveways.

And my personal favourite - lights that flash in time with really loud frenetic music that you can hear in the next suburb.

But it doesn't feel like Christmas to me anyway coz it's too hot :(

Jiggy16 · 23/11/2018 08:09

So agree with this thread! Hate blue lights and the ice white!! Warm white and proper warm multi coloured lights only! We had to buy new lights last year, very last min as we were decorating the house and the lights were horrible - just bright blue green and red, didn't realise till we got home and then it was too late, I want to buy some new ones this year (and hide the set from last year so dh doesn't crack up!) but can't see anything other than 'super bright' multi coloured 😫 anyone any good recommendations for some traditional looking multi coloured lights??

polkadotpixie · 23/11/2018 08:19

My neighbours have a bright blue living room light all year round!

I have no idea why or how they can bear to sit in the room, it's awful

I'm with you! I'm even replacing my ice white lights this year with some warm white ones because the ones I currently have offend my eyes 😂

ThanosSavedMe · 23/11/2018 08:22

I’ve found my people!

I’m obsessed with warm white lights. I never used to like multi coloured but they can sometime look nice.

[whispers] I’ve seen some nice looking blue lights but they weren’t flashing as that’s a massive no no. But cold white lights should be absolutely be banned. It’s cold enough at Christmas without everywhere looking like a scene from Frozen!

Gentle twinkling fine. Strobing NOOOOOOOO!

Windgate · 23/11/2018 08:36

The route I have to drive to and fro DM's house or the hospital where she currently is involves several miles of unlit windy rural roads. Blue flashing lights mean emergency services and a hazard NOT blue flashing Christmas lights on someone's house 😡

meercat23 · 23/11/2018 08:46

Can only agree with the dislike of the bright blue lights. For me they are not Christmassy at all. I don't like the ice white lights either. A couple of years back I put a string of ice white lights on my tree. Cue instant migraine, real thumping migraine. I had to take lights down and replace them.

I quite like a gentle twinkling effect but my OH can't tolerate that either so it has to be static lights for us.

Theperfectchangeling · 23/11/2018 08:52

Oh god.... the problem is worsening, has anyone seen the new Postcode Lottery xmas ad? As if ‘knocking at the door’ wasn’t bad enough, they now have an entire street festooned with ‘death by glacier’ lights!!
