Ok, so this has been discussed many a time, but nothing ever seems to change, every year, people still seem to enjoy adorning their homes with these eye bleeding, migraine inducing, brain splitting fuckers. Would you consider reforming your blue light ways for the sake of your fellow neighbours? Will you finally ‘see the light’ Wink and change to any other colour instead? Please? begging

Our local council used blue lights for a few years saying that they saved energy, but they didn't look great. They have now changed to white which is so much prettier, hopefully still reasonably low energy.

Mamaryllis · 21/11/2018 15:07

I can feel my December blue light induced month long migraine coming on already...

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 21/11/2018 15:11

I have solar fairy lights on my patio all year round, they are not blue, they are purple on one bush and white on the trellis.

Crikeyblimey · 21/11/2018 15:17

I’ll sign the petition. I find blue lights joy sucking, cold and freaky.

I so want lights at the front of the house this year (we do have a very warm white, light laden Christmas tree on the patio which is a thing of beauty) but nothing at the front.

Not sure how I’d power them - do you all use solar and if so, do they actually work? Or leave a window open with the wire coming in the house?

I need outdoor light instruction please.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 21/11/2018 15:19

Blue lights = instant migraine
Flashing blue lights = pulling over for the imaginary ambulance

Warm white all the way. Multi if you must, but no blue.

ShodAndShadySenators · 21/11/2018 15:23

Crikeyblimey We always put ours through the windows. The wires for lights are usually thin enough that your windows will still close and lock.

anniehm · 21/11/2018 15:25

Ditto, my neighbours opposite have loads of flashing ones, it's like having several emergency vehicles parked across the street for a month

itswinetime · 21/11/2018 15:31

It's not Christmas related but the buses by me all have blue lights internally once it's dark can they join the banned list? I'm constantly convinced the police are behind me as soon as the evenings get dark!!

wanderings · 21/11/2018 15:32

@Tawdrylocalbrouhaha
In my opinion the dearth of blue bulbs in earlier displays led to a glamorization of blue bulbs
You're right. Are you an electronic engineer? Blue LEDs used to be rare and expensive until the late 90's, then they became cheaper, and were seen everywhere.

In my parents' first set of lights that I remember, it had five colours: red, yellow, green, blue, and pink. Pink is rarely seen now!

Also one of our German au pairs was shocked and horrified by coloured lights everywhere. Her stance was that only white was right (and that was long before the "cold white" which we also have now).

I bloody love this thread.

AGREE. I live in a town with a light display over the bridge.... BLUE. Police-lights blue, and occasionally flashing. Looks absolutely horrendous.

Furtlingfergus · 21/11/2018 15:43

I used to live in the prettiest, sleepy little village, about 15 cottages. At Christmas all were decorated beautifully and you'd almost be lulled into thinking you had stepped back in time 50 years until you reached the cottage at the end with it's psychedelic "LOOK AT ME!!! I AM A FREAKIN ABOMINATION" idiotic blue flashing blasted icicles strewn all over it...Guess which house we lived opposite.. Confused

MrsElf · 21/11/2018 15:59

We have blue lights at work (and no heating), "waiting for death in a glacier" indeed!

expresso I have got red and white lights sitting in an online basket, and now I am wavering. MN jury, what do you think?

Troels · 21/11/2018 16:32

I always assumed Blue lights were Hanukkah lights, same with the wrapping paper, I used to find Blue and silver paper with pictures of candles and dreidles on in the US.

bellinibobble · 21/11/2018 16:41

I have found my people!!
I also hate the LED lights that are red, green, orange and blue only (especially when they're on the setting that flash 2 colours at a time). What happened to proper fairly lights in lots of colours?

Also, whilst I'm ranting.. why do people use those rope lights on trees that are bare with leaves. I look at poorly arranged zig-zagging LED lights from branch to branch with unadulterated fury.

bellinibobble · 21/11/2018 16:42

Oh and blue icicles.. WHY?!?!?!?!?! Ice is literally WHITE!!!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 21/11/2018 16:44

What happened to proper fairly lights in lots of colours

Exactly. Where are the pinks, oranges, purples and turquoises?

chillpizza · 21/11/2018 16:46

I like the blue led flashing lights.... it stops people speeding down our road as they think the police are here Grin

chillpizza · 21/11/2018 16:47

On my tree however I would love warm white but I get veto by the others in the house and we have multi coloured egh

MakeAHouseAHome · 21/11/2018 16:49

Blue xmas lights are nasty. We have the warm white ones.

Flewog · 21/11/2018 17:01

I don't have any but I think blue lights look nice. Weird thread!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 21/11/2018 17:02

There's a massive tree in our town that gets lit up every year. The first time I saw it (15 years ago?), it was done in blue-white lights, scattered throughout the tree like starts and it was magical.

Now they're all wrapped round the trunk and branches in plain old white lights. Still looks lovely but nothing like as enchanting as it used to.

But I am in full agreement with the "commit-tee" as regards ambulance-blue Christmas Lights. Get rid. And all flashing lights should be fused.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 21/11/2018 17:03

stars, not starts

driggle · 21/11/2018 17:06

Our village Christmas tree is ruined decorated with blue lights every year. To make it extra hideous, they look like they've been thrown on from a great distance.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 21/11/2018 17:09

The blue stuff is migraine-inducing. Banhammer at ten paces.
