Ok, so this has been discussed many a time, but nothing ever seems to change, every year, people still seem to enjoy adorning their homes with these eye bleeding, migraine inducing, brain splitting fuckers. Would you consider reforming your blue light ways for the sake of your fellow neighbours? Will you finally ‘see the light’ Wink and change to any other colour instead? Please? begging

Warm white and multi coloured lights are wonderful.

Ice white and bastard blue should result in their owners being taken out onto their front drives and tied up with the damn things so we can pelt mouldy sprouts at them all Christmas.

Where do I sign the petition?

Leafy2018 · 21/11/2018 19:14

'Gone yellowy with age'** - brilliant! Grin I had no idea that this idea existed! Sorry, but blue really is utterly tasteless (in my opinion.)

SoupDragon · 21/11/2018 19:25

I had no idea that this idea existed!

What a sheltered life you must have Wink

Bluesheep8 · 21/11/2018 19:37

francescrawford
"Was sorely tempted to sneak across one night and cut the bloody wire"

.....I know someone who did this. The blue lights were flashing night after night, all night on the house opposite. I lost count of the times we were woken in the night thinking it was the police or something. All the other neighbours saud the same and the people were asked to please turn them off at 10pm. They didn't. As I said, i was told that someone did what francescrawford was tempted to do.....Grin

crispinquent · 21/11/2018 21:11

Blue lights always strike me as more apropos of Halloween

ThoughtForFood · 21/11/2018 21:15

I hear that rats LOVE to chomp the wiring on blue lights. The short wavelength gives the copper a specially joyless and austere flavour. They are most at risk of being cut nibbled.

Troofact

Merryoldgoat · 21/11/2018 21:18

Pointless for me to join - I live on one of ‘those’ roads 🙈

From early December it’s utter trash. The kids absolutely adore it though.

DaedricLordSlayer · 22/11/2018 10:41

yep they are so cold.

But sometimes it's really hard to find warm white in shops, a few years ago I couldn't find anything but Blue, for my budget. I didn't buy them though.

onthenaughtystepagain · 22/11/2018 11:04

Nothing says cheap, tacky and tasteless like piercing blue lights, even Holt, Norfolk is now infected. They are closely followed by littering the front of one's house with garish coloured lights, inflatable 'Santas', etc etc. Our cross the road neighbour has just done his littering, looks hideous, sorely tempted to get an air-gun!

katsudon · 22/11/2018 11:11

Icy blue lights are great! Not so much the darker blue ones.

onthenaughtystepagain · 22/11/2018 11:14

Even in Holt, Norfolk some places uses the tacky blue lights, in a place that promotes the beauty of a pretty town at Christmas, totally ruined.

liquidrevolution · 22/11/2018 11:27

Interestingly if you watch the inside no.9 episode 12 days of Christine the blue lights on her dream christmas tree are a symbol for the blue emergency lights in reality.

Completely off topic but why oh why do nearly all tree lights have to be bloody multi function? And why do we have to switch through 8 settings to get to static. Angry fortunately Ive managed to track down some static at Wilkos this year.

averylongtimeago · 22/11/2018 11:36

Can I add the large round multi coloured things that look like pulsating pustules please ?

A neighbour has several of these and they are truly horrid.

SmallDalek · 22/11/2018 11:41

Am all for total ban on everything other than white and warm white.

13thWarriorWitch · 22/11/2018 11:45

I would go a step further and insist that (indoors anyway - for window displays) the proper "clear bulbs" rather than "warm white leds" look so much nicer.

Like candlelight.

Ice white has it's place I think but not blue. Never blue.

I hate all flashing lights in any colour.

And the only acceptable multi coloured lights are the soft vintage type. Multi leds are horrid. So harsh looking.

13thWarriorWitch · 22/11/2018 11:49

The people across the road from me have "disco" style multi flashing leds that change from green/red to blue/purple in seizure inducing sequences.

Why do they hate me? Sad

McWilde · 22/11/2018 11:54

Another monstrosity is Warm white lights and cool white lights together.
One of my neighbours has warm white wrapped around some bushes and cool white wrapped around others, I feel like knocking on his door and informing him it doesn't bloody match

Badtasteflump · 22/11/2018 12:36

Urgh yes where do I sign.

Anybody using blue lights on their tree should watch The 12 Days of Christine (Inside No.9).... Shock

I did once buy blue lights - we had just moved house and I decided I wanted to have a 'theme' of silver, white and blue. It looked awful although I was too stubborn to admit it at the time. DH and the DC look back fondly now on the year 'mum ruined Christmas' Grin

Badtasteflump · 22/11/2018 12:38

Another monstrosity is Warm white lights and cool white lights together.

If only it were that simple though.... I have different sets of warm white lights, some for the trees, some for bannisters, mantelpieces, etc, and they're all slightly different shades of warm white. Which sometimes doesn't matter but then other times you're walking from one room to another and there's a momentary clash Shock

SinisterBumFacedCat · 22/11/2018 14:07

Oh god, a town I drive through on my way home has a season greetings lights sign which has a slow trickle effect on some watery looking snowflakes, for some reason it just reminds me of semen!

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 22/11/2018 14:30

That episode of Inside no9 was really good, totally didn't expect that ending.

Badtasteflump · 22/11/2018 14:35

Me neither Whirly Sad

I watched it again recently and even though I knew what was happening, it still really hit hard.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 22/11/2018 15:20

Thanks Badtasteflump I've just rewatched on Sky, still as hard hitting.

liquidrevolution · 22/11/2018 15:40

Its on BBC iPlayer as well. I sob at the end Blush and avoid blue lights like the plague.

HappyEverIftar · 22/11/2018 16:42

Neighbours have put up their warm white lights, alternating with red, around their cylindrical bushes at the front of their house. From a distance it looks like a series of Victoria sponge cakes Hmm
