Today I almost met somebody who has been a big figure in my life. It took ages to pluck up the courage to speak to them and I was totally dismissed. I wasn’t being a “gushing fan” and it was a setting that was laid back. Everyone else was lovely. Have tou ever met someone you admire and wish you hadn’t?

Tom Selleck - literally as handsome and charming as you’d expect

I am so delighted at this. I LOVE this man

Cocolepew · 21/11/2018 22:24

So very jealous of the posters who met/ stood next to Prince EnvySad
Backstage at a Nirvana gig, Teenage Fanclub were all a delight. Patiently signed the dozens of LPs my ex asked me to get signed, even though it was obvious they were going to be sold GrinBlush.
Courtney Love was just awful, screeching, violent and awful to fans at the stage door.
Dave Grohl was nice, he picked me up when I fell over his feet.

The author Robert Crais is wonderful, met him at a signing and practically swooned.

DD is a massive Agents Of Shield fan and went to a ComicCon last year where a lot of the cast were.
All of them were friendly and polite and great fun. There was a disco in the hotel that night for the fans and they all turned up and danced and drank all night.

Not an idol, but years ago I met Anneka Rice who was visiting her (then) husband in hospital. She was all over TV at the time and was a household name. They were both absolutely charming, very genuine people.

RayRayBidet · 21/11/2018 23:00

The author Tracy Chevalier, intelligent, funny and an all round lovely person.
Ed Stoppard the actor also lovely.
My friend at school was in a pantomime with Barbara Windsor and she was vile.

alltoomuchrightnow · 21/11/2018 23:20

I agree, Ray, I met BW at work once and she was awful

cleanasawhistle · 22/11/2018 00:41

My friend met Lisa Riley on a cruise earlier this year and said she was so lovely

RamblinRosie · 22/11/2018 00:52

My dad said Prince Phil was amazing, well briefed and really interested, on the opening of opening of first Severn Bridge.

Jason Donavon is, a according to a colleague, quite charming .

I saw Ricky gervais in Highgate once, he was eating with his girlfriend so I walked past but he looked friendly enough smiling at the staff etc

I know someone who worked with Alexander Armstrong he’s lovely so yey!

Kate Middleton and Prince William I’ve heard through the nanny grape vine are super nice.

also to the lady who met Peter Kay! I’m sorry he was rude but he’s a human too enjoying his meal etc why should he be bothered.

Sarcelle · 22/11/2018 07:27

Tom Baker used to come into a shop I worked in. Delightfully bonkers, very like his his dr who persona. Nick Heywood, at height of Haircut 100 fame, also came in a lot. Lovely guy, mischievous face! Nigel Havers, beautifully dressed, arrogant. In another shop Sir Robin Day was very rude to a colleague. Dawn French was my teacher at school. Bit grumpy but we were stroppy teenage girls.

goody2shooz · 22/11/2018 07:38

Daughter met Prince Philip at a DofE event and says he was super nice, and a great laugh. Hugh Grant the same..plus very flirty! Alex Salmond otoh was rude and and arrogant at a charity event - treated staff like irrelevant, unimportant minions.

OliviaStabler · 22/11/2018 07:57

I am so delighted at this. I LOVE this man

Yes! Other Tom Selleck fans Grin

awaynboilyurheid · 22/11/2018 08:28

My daughter met George Clooney she was working at an event, she said he was lovely, even when not smoozing the room he was so charming! He was about to leave and a couple of the the staff asked for a photograph the lady who was organising the event snapped at them and said one group picture only Mr Clooney is very busy! however George turned and said what would you like individual or group? when she hesitated as she was a young girl and unsure of boss reaction he said lets do individual pictures! he then chatted to each member of staff and got pictures with them all, my daughter was delighted!

MrsJayy · 22/11/2018 08:31

Me and then Bf now dh met prince phillip and prince Edward at a Do E ceremony they were nice enough but they were working so you expect them to be. Was at athing where princess diana was she looked bored shitless I felt sorry for her.

MoistCantaloupe · 22/11/2018 09:04

Quentin Tarantino- met through work and was really friendly/interested in everyone.

Bob Geldof - Really lovely

Eddie Izzard - Huge fan, saw him approaching and wanted to say something. Bottled it and basically just shouted in his face 'HELLO!!'. He bemusedly said 'Hello' and waved back at me.

Jeremy Beadle - horrible to me when I was 10. Asked for an autograph at an event, he just grabbed the paper, signed, didn't even look at me, just chatted to someone else

Very Z list celebrity Andrew Stone - Met at a filming, with just myself and another camera guy. (I didn't really know who he was) This was 8 years back, I was 24 at the time and he was constantly inappropriate. Said to my face 'I could make you wet'. Disgusting man.

Ian Wright/Jamie Redknapp/David Seeman - all really lovely to me, but I was about 16. David Seeman was the best. David Beckham was there also and a boring, moaning arse - but to fair to him, I don't think the event was something he enjoyed.

Elle Macpherson - Met on a photo shoot. Total arse.

Piglet208 · 22/11/2018 09:06

In 1984, with 2 friends, when I was 15 I saw Andrew Ridgeley from Wham buying a hairdryer in Boots in Oxford Street. His manager tried to shoo us away but Andrew came over and chatted to us. He signed my Do they know it's Christmas single and apologised for being in a rush as his car was outside. He was my absolute idol and heartthrob at the time. Posters all over my bedroom. Such a lovely guy.😍

thenightsky · 22/11/2018 10:42

Richard Whiteley was a near neighbour of my now deceased parents. He was absolutely lovely and regularly gave them lifts to get shopping (rural area with no transport). At a village party he spent a large amount of time talking to my ample cleavage. He was VERY pissed on that occasion though Grin

Workreturner · 22/11/2018 13:29

Jeremy Beadle - horrible to me when I was 10. Asked for an autograph at an event, he just grabbed the paper, signed, didn't even look at me, just chatted to someone else

So he was having a conversation with someone.
You ask for an autograph. He gives it but carries on his conversation whilst doing so.
I’m utterly indifferent to him but bit unfair to label him horrible on the basis of this. Seems like you were rude

LifesABeachCoaster · 22/11/2018 14:40

I met Barry Chuckle outside the theatre when I was a teenager. I was waiting for Dan Falzon (Aussie soap star). Barry was lovely though and said everyone waits for Dan, no one comes to see him lol.

Also met Tom Fletcher from McFly who was really lovely and chatted to us for a long time after the gig.

Hilary Clinton came to our local Uni last year and was very nice.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 22/11/2018 14:43

Rolf Harris had a joke with me once at a corporate event. I thought he was lovely Sad

highheelsandbobblehats · 22/11/2018 16:25

We met Cat and Rimmer from Red Dwarf a few years ago at a local convention. Danny John-Jules was bloody lovely and we met him two years running. He signed our DVDs for free, despite the sign saying it was £15 for a signature. The second year Chris Barrie was there with him and he was a moody, grumpy arse. If you don't like it, don't do the conventions!

David Morrissey was absolutely lovely and sweet.

I met Noel Edmunds twice when I was a 'pilgrim' on Deal or No Deal. The first time I was 'Pilgram of the day' (I was there as a guest as a friend worked there so got a full tour and was asked by the production team if I'd mind). He was charming and lovely. But he was at work.

I agree with leaving 'celebrities' be if they're just out doing their own thing. We were at Reading service a couple of weekends ago and who should pull up and park next to us but Robert Lindsay. We ended up back at the cars at the same time too, but we didn't bother him or ask for a picture. It was 930am on a Sunday morning, he was obviously just trying to get somewhere in peace.

That said, when Andy Day was queuing to collect his tickets to Wicked at the theatre box office right in front of us, I did collar him for a picture. I was the envy of the mums at the school gate for a few weeks after that Grin

highheelsandbobblehats · 22/11/2018 16:26

Also, Andy Day was sweet and lovely.

highheelsandbobblehats · 22/11/2018 16:27

LifesABeach. I still have my Dan Falzon autograph from when I was a teenager. It wasn't Options in Kingston circa 1995/6 was it?!

Dragonlight · 22/11/2018 16:36

Dame Maggie is awful? There go those illusions :(

highheelsandbobblehats · 22/11/2018 16:38

Oh yes, Sid Owen used to frequent the same nightclub as I did. He was a proper twat.

Almost collided with Chris Evans (the ginger one not Captain America) many years ago. I walked round the corner coming from Leicester Square and I had my head turned to the side chatting to my friend, just as he rounded the same corner doing exactly the same thing. He was very sweet and we were both apologetic. My lasting impression was that he was so TALL!

Had it been Captain America, I may have made sure to properly collide with him Grin
