To not know what the F our air bnb host is talking about in her review of us???

Ok I'm literally gobsmacked.

Got back a week ago from an air bnb apartment holiday. Before we left I cleaned top to bottom. Stripped beds and put all bedding and towels together for washing, swept, mopped, wiped down showers, sinks, cleaned toilets. The works. DH said I was being over the top but I was conscious that this wasn't the usual big company holiday let and wanted to leave it as we found it. We left a really good review for the owner.

Today received a notification that the owner has left us a review. It's HORRIFIC. It says the apartment was dirty, towels were dirty (not sure how they expect them to be sparkling clean after a 2 week stay and surely they wash them between guests???), she then goes on to say that there was EXCREMENT on the duvet!!! I aired and folded that duvet myself and it was spotless!!! And that there was excrement smeared on the bedroom walls and she has to redecorate!!! Like WTAF???

I have no words right now... I haven't been able to compose a reply as I have nothing to say except WTF? I spent half of my last day of holiday cleaning the apartment.... I think I would have noticed shit stains on the walls??

What do I do?? Can I argue the review with air bnb? I wish now I had taken pictures before we left but it never occurred to me that this could happen??

Yep 😂

cricketmum84 · 21/11/2018 08:50

@Hgtvaddict we booked through my husbands account so to be honest will just set up an account in my name if we were to ever use them again.

I've reported the review as containing false information and written a public response to it.

Ohhhh... what was the response?
I bet you are spot on with the cleaner wanting more money!
Can you contact the owner directly I wonder?
Maybe Air bnb can let you know on that one.

ShotsFired · 21/11/2018 09:15

Stripping the beds in hotels is possibly one of the most MN things I have ever read.

Years ago I worked as a chalet girl for a few seasons and as a chamber maid while travelling. I always automatically strip beds when leaving somewhere. So many times I wished people had in the rooms I was cleaning. The things people left on those sheets 😱

pawfoot57 · 21/11/2018 10:36

You have a right of reply to the review. Have you reviewed her yet? If not mention what has happened. I would also tell Airbnb, it sounds to be she is winging for damages. I rent out rooms through airbnb and have always found the customer service helpful. You can always create a new account with a new email address, but have a word with Airbnb first. There are some unscrupulous people out there, call her bluff and ask for photo evidence with the time on the photos.

Leapfrog44 · 21/11/2018 12:05

I'd have asked her for photos as it's the only way to clarify whether there were things you missed.

We had a housesitter who didn't change the bed for 3 weeks. She obviously didn't find it a big deal but the previously white sheets were stained yellow and I couldn't get them clean so had to bin them. To me it was disgusting but she clearly thought she'd done a great job.

I'm not saying she's not off her rocker or dishonest it's just you need to clarify the problem with pictures and communication as people often see different things. Perhaps the 'excrement' was a bit of marmite you missed or something.

What a horrible experience!

Hushhush89 · 21/11/2018 13:29

I'll add I don't find you weird OP. I'm the exact same if I'm staying in places. I like to know that everything is cleaned before I leave

Ginburee · 21/11/2018 13:58

I need to know more about the haunted apartment in Benidorm....

sanpelle · 21/11/2018 14:08

It's not OCD to clean up after yourself in accommodation. It shows respect and manners and makes everyone's lives a lot easier. Besides, I'd rather a cleaner not have to wipe DH's hairs from the toilet seat or anything else gross. I once got berated by an ex for making the bed in a hotel before we left. I know they change the sheets anyway but it looks slobbish if you don't make the bed and it's just habit. What a bizarre thing OP! I used Air BnB once and will never use it again. There was an ant infestation in most of the house and other people actually ended up sharing it with us that weren't meant to be there. Owner had clearly double booked to make as much money as poss. Never got a refund! I hope it doesn't affect you if you want to keep using their services though OP

Sanpelle It's not OCD to clean up after yourself in accommodation

It's blatantly obvious the difference between wiping down the sides, emptying the fridge and putting the clean mugs away before you leave; versus an all-out strip the beds, clean the silverware and move the sofas deep clean in a holiday let or hotel room.

Especially when there are housekeeping staff paid for and employed to do that job and who doubtless have fixed routines in which to do so, and the holidaymaker has paid a fee for that very service.

Nobody is suggesting you leave massive skidmarks in the loo and a used condom in the bedsheets and skip happily off home!

GnomeDePlume · 21/11/2018 14:40

I would wonder if it was a blackmail scam. Leave a damning review then take it down when guest pays a 'cleaning' fee. Many people rushing small children out of a rental may doubt themselves as to how well they left the accommodation and may be susceptible to a bit of gentle blackmail.

cricketmum84 · 21/11/2018 15:06

@Ginburee just for you! Don't have nightmares....

To think our holiday apartment is haunted?? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3414302-to-think-our-holiday-apartment-is-haunted

@cricketmum84
You may want to get the other thread or at least the link to the apartment deleted for privacy reasons. It took me two clicks to find your DH's Airbnb profile.

PattiStanger · 21/11/2018 17:09

Sanpelle - please tell me you aren't cleaning the toilet of your DH's hairs, a grown man who can't clean the toilet himself is pretty pathetic

Ginburee · 21/11/2018 17:30

cricketmum84 thank you.
