I'm hardly her number one fan but I can't see how getting rid of her is the answer. They just don't seem to know what they're doing. It's an absolute mess whichever way you look at it.

If you remember back she was harangued to do so, not least by the media, other politicians, and public opinion, at the time she was being slaughtered for not triggering it for so long.

And as for the general election, yes hindsight is a wonderful thing, she was clearly trying to solidify her position as being voted in, because she was being slaughtered for not being elected, ther were many reasons at the time. Yes she made a mistake in doing so, but as said, hind sight is a wonderful thing.

Whatever her politics, she’s an amazing, strong woman and it’s a shame that she won’t be recognised as such agree

dawnacorns · 15/11/2018 22:14

justmarriedbecca I could imagine that horror scenario. We are very close to that.

motheroffour I agree we should have a second referendum. People are better informed. If 'leave' still won after all this, I think the remainers would have to just accept it, at least everybody would have a better idea what they're voting for.

She made bad choices when she was home secretary. She's making bad choices now.

I am sympathetic that she is surrounded by these loony brexiteers: these horrible hugely privileged men who don't give a shit about us, but it is people who voted leave who gave them so much power ...

EvaReady · 15/11/2018 22:22

I think May's biggest mistake was appointing David Davis as her Brexit Secretary - we was a lazy, arrogant, self serving piece of shit - he did achieved absolutely nothing except to show utter contempt for negotiating with the EU - she should have sacked him a long time before he resigned.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/11/2018 22:24

Time is running out, we are heading for a bad deal. I appreciate some people incredibly are only just waking up to how utterly shit that will be, but it is not news to most of us.

Time is running out for one reason: Theresa May triggered Article 40. She didn't have to do that.

AgathaRaisinDetra · 15/11/2018 22:30

Yeah, that Article 40 is a right bastard.

KennDodd · 15/11/2018 22:32

I appreciate some people incredibly are only just waking up to how utterly shit that will be,

Actually, I don't think they are.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/11/2018 22:37

At the start she thought we stood a chance if we walked away, plus it was part of a negotiating tactic. Now she is making it clear we are fucked if we do.

People actually thought walking away from the EU without a deal was a good negotiating tactic?

The only people who ever thought that were either super-rich, disaster capitalists or absolute idiots.

Everyone with any sense knew that this was going to be a total shit-fest 2 and a half years ago.

AlexaShutUp · 15/11/2018 22:38

I am not a Theresa May fan. I don't like her politics and I don't warm to her as a person. I also think she has made a series of significant mistakes.

That said, I don't think this is her fault. I don't believe that anyone could have negotiated a decent deal. The best deal is to remain in the EU. It isn't fair to blame May for the fact that we'll be worse off. As a nation, that's what we voted for.

It now looks increasingly likely that the electorate are soon going to learn that Project Fear wasn't fear-mongering after all.

I do admire Theresa May's determination and tenacity. Her courage and resilience is impressive, even if her judgment isn't!

user1490465531 · 15/11/2018 22:56

As a leave voter I did my research and did not believe what I saw on the back of a bus.
Why is this old chestnut always used as a way to belittle the leave voters.

The Labour Party have been an utterly ineffective opposition, unfortunately.

I feel that we have been seriously failed all of our politicians. First, David Cameron made the mistake of holding the referendum in the first place, predominantly to silence the dissenters in his party. Then, we had the farcical referendum campaign with Remain failing to make a compelling case and Leave putting lies on buses. Next, there was the complete lack of courage among our politicians that meant that nobody was prepared to really stand up and say that the referendum result was bad for Britain and should be set aside. And now we have the current shambles, and if we are forced down the road towards another general election, there isn't a single bloody party that I can realistically vote for!

We have been failed by the whole bloody lot of them, but I blame David Cameron above them all.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 15/11/2018 23:22

User many people at the time were interview on the news and mentioned it as a reason to leave. Of course now you can't find anyone who admits to believing it. Makes you wonder why they paid so much for it if it wasn't some sort of giant billboard for why to vote leave Hmm. I have to ask what research you did? How do you feel about your vote now?

Tantrumschmantrum · 15/11/2018 23:28

Not a fan if TM but that said I think she's been put in a shit position. The cowards who were in the leave camp all did one after the referendum showing their true colours. The same bunch are moaning and conspiring now. BJ should have stuck at Have I got news for you, JRM should have stayed in Victorian Times and well Gove should slink back into lair. It's a sorry mess and an embarrassment.

Momasita · 15/11/2018 23:34

Another ref would be a third ref though. A third ref should technically take place in about 50 years and for my children generation to decide. By then maybe I would vote remain?

My parents took the first ref to Join a trading block.
By the time of my generation's rightful ref. Vote... We have had a good few decades to see how that initial descion has panned out.

Seeing as voting for a trading bloc morphed into ever closer union etc... It's understandable people voted out.

In another 50 years.. Another vote if things have not worked, if the eu has changed if the world has changed would be a very valid thing to do.

We... Are fluid and things change.

MrsStrowman · 15/11/2018 23:34

The whole thing reeks of a load of men making a huge mess, then leaving it to a woman (who didn't want any of it in the first place) to clean it all up, whilst complaining about the way she's cleaning

Momasita · 15/11/2018 23:37

Many labour mps and great ones.. Voted brexit.

And mcdonel and corbyn.

How can they be opposition? The leaders of the opposition are for brexit?!

Haven’t read the thread at all - just the title.

Although the whole shit show can’t be blamed on her, she is to blame for the hasty red line drawing, citizens of nowhere comment, alienation of 48% of voters, naively aggressive negotiation stance (repeatedly), plus shocking history of hostile environment as HS (and much more).

Please don’t make her into some kind of hero.

Talkstotrees · 15/11/2018 23:57

McDonnell and Corbyn campaigned for remain.

I love that someone voted for leave because a woman in Greece told her too.
Classic.

Who did that?

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 16/11/2018 00:53

Stupid is as stupid does. #forrestgump

As a country we were lied to. People voted on apples v unknown. Unknown promised rainbow unicorn shit for free that was made of chocolate chip cookies.

We took a vote but the majority of us did not know what they were voting for. TM takes over as DC walks off in to the sunset. NF and BJ think they've won, ho ho ho.

TM flies like a mad witch to set the Brexit bomb. Then wonders why she's left holding it as it's ready to go off.

I've watched with interest as the day unfolded. We are a laughing stock of the world. TM will not get this deal through parliament. She is toast. She can have all the bravado and tits of steel you like, she is done.

There will be no GE. There will be a vote of no confidence and another referendum or people's vote on the deal.

We have a chance to stay and end this shit with some massive war wounds. TM is frightened and finished and yes, she has done the best she could. In an utterly shit situation with no forethought whatsoever.

For the sake of my DC I hope we stay or deal. For the Brexiteers I hope we hit every branch on the way down.

theduchessstill · 16/11/2018 05:42

I'm amazed that there are so many apologists and downright worshippers of her on this thread. She's at best deeply unimpressive and at worse deeply unpleasant and is definitely one of the architects of this disaster.

Bluntness I see why she thought calling a GE was a good idea, and I get your point about hindsight. But then we recall her utterly dismal campaign - or was that part of her plan? Dementia tax anyone? The care plan fiasco ? Her never appearing anywhere 'real', just in half-empty warehouses? Snapping at the nurse on tv ' there's no magic money tree you know?' and then finding one to pay the DUP. She's utterly reprehensible, and the fact that she's better than Mogg etc means nothing.

Current Labour leadership are also a disgrace. If anyone half decent was in opposition the election would have been one and this whole shit show over.
