I'm hardly her number one fan but I can't see how getting rid of her is the answer. They just don't seem to know what they're doing. It's an absolute mess whichever way you look at it.

What is clear is that TM is trying very hard to avoid the absolute disaster of a hard Brexit. This confirms that the concerns dismissed as ‘project fear’ are completely in fact very real. The health secretary has stated that he can’t guarantee people won’t die as a result of a no deal Brexit. Yet still there are Leave voters interviewed on TV this evening that they just want to leave regardless. Sad

The80sweregreat · 15/11/2018 20:26

I think TM took the job on thinking it might be a bit easier than it turned out to be!

dementedma · 15/11/2018 20:33

I admire her tenacity and am in awe of the fact that she is still standing, given the shit that has been dumped on her.
I also admire her husband who must have a very stressed and very exhausted wife to support.
Where are the cowrdly fuckers who caused this mess?

Didn’t DC say that he was bored of playing in his posh shed?

dawnacorns · 15/11/2018 20:48

They are standing on the sidelines telling her she has done it wrong.

it's not a surprise that a woman was put into place to deal with brexit so they could blame her rather than a man. yes

I think she knew how hard it would be but was willing to take it on. She has shown far more grit determination and leadership than I for one ever expected her to.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/11/2018 20:49

Her Brexit deal is shit. It’s just less shit than no deal.

The fact that people want to struggle and be poorer is a very interesting psychological phenomenon.

Talkinpeece · 15/11/2018 20:54

She has shown far more grit determination and leadership than I for one ever expected her to.
She is doing an excellent job of picking her own shit up off her own doorstep.
Maybe next time she will not make the mess in the first place Hmm

She did not have to call Article 50 with NO IDEA what would happen next
She did not have to call a General election
She did not have to fight such a shit campaign that she ended up in hock to the homophobic misogynist DUP

Loopytiles · 15/11/2018 20:54

Yes, it’s no coincidence that the Tories’ first female leader since Thatcher got the job at this specific time, with this to deal with.

Bluntness100 · 15/11/2018 21:01

I have to say it concerns me also that she's changed her position from no deal is better than a shit deal to a shit deal is better than no deal.

She knows way more than we do, and if she's saying it now, then I strongly believe we shoild all be thinking no deal will really be disastrous for us.

She's been very clear this is the best option for us, and she's being that clear for a reason.

The80sweregreat · 15/11/2018 21:08

It's hard to read between the lines with her sometimes but I think she is saying ' do this or we're really screwed'
It's convincing her own party that's the hard part.

GirlsBlouse17 · 15/11/2018 21:11

I don't think she should have wasted time calling a general election which just weakened her government anyway. I think she should have had cross party involvement in shaping Brexit and the negotiations. I also worry that she has completely ruled out a second referendum. However, I'm not sure anyone else in power would have come up with a better deal and what a tough job this has been for her and it seems impossible to please everyone.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 15/11/2018 21:13

I admire her for achieving as much as she has in the circumstances. I respect her for not telling everyone to fuck off but to stick in there and cobble something together. I still wouldn't vote for it or her.

MadeleineMaxwell · 15/11/2018 21:20

I also worry that she has completely ruled out a second referendum.

What, Teresa 'There'll be no general election' May? Pff! There'll be one if she wants or needs one.

BMW6 · 15/11/2018 21:20

But she repeatedly stated that she believes that this is NOT a shit deal, so her position has not changed.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 15/11/2018 21:25

I don't know how we can move forward without another vote. Labour want a general election but I can't see them getting a better deal. We need a People's Vote with a landslide remain victory to put this to bed. I worry it would be a three way vote, deal /crash out/ remain that will muddy the waters and confuse things and we will still be bickering about it for decades.

The80sweregreat · 15/11/2018 21:28

Nobody on the tv has really said what happens when the deal is rejected?
It might scrape through but it's doubtful.
If it's toast , then do they send her back to try again or just crash out without a deal?
When is this vote taking place?

derxa · 15/11/2018 21:29

She's been very clear this is the best option for us, and she's being that clear for a reason. Shit as it is I believe her

dawnacorns · 15/11/2018 21:32

I reckon we will be bickering about it for decades for sure. I actually feel horrified at the thought of JC, McDonnell Diane Abbot and co trying to get us a better deal. They can't even run an opposition. The whole situation is a shambles.
I agree TM thinks no deal will be a nightmare scenario. Tbh I think the people thinking we should go ahead with no deal are selfish.

No one really believed that lying shit of no deal is better than a bad deal, did they? That was ridiculous.

JustMarriedBecca · 15/11/2018 21:33

I've been sat watching this all unfurl with absolute horror. I can see it being voted down, TM will leave, Mogg (and we all know who he reminds us of right?) will put Boris or Gove into bat for a bit. General will be called, labour will win and then Boris will be ousted and Mogg's far right will come in. That scares me more than anything. The right wing Tories seem happy to be in the wilderness for a few years if when they come back in, the party has skewed back to the right.

Like a lot of people up thread I really feel for TM. I think she's done the best negotiation she could - but you can't polish a turd. I was hoping that either
(A) the deal, which essentially was another two years on our time in the EU was to allow all the old leave voters to die and the younger likely to vote remainers to reach 18, was so that when there was another vote on rejoining, the balance went the other way
(B) a refusal of the deal which now looks likely will result in a people's vote prior to March. Although I can't see it realistically in that time because of the admin and timescales involved in throwing a national election.

Time to start stockpiling pasta again

derxa · 15/11/2018 21:37

Labour want a general election I'm building a bunker

Helmetbymidnight · 15/11/2018 21:40

We’ve known no deal would be a disaster for years.
We know that Brexit will be bad for the country.
And yet she persists.

Sparklybanana · 15/11/2018 21:55

I’m glad most people appreciate that she’s in an impossible position. She literally can not please everyone and quite frankly has tougher balls than most male politicians at the moment. The vast majority of people would have lost their rag and just yelled ‘if you think you can do it better, you fecking do it!’ But no. She knows that she has to stay in what must be a tortuous job with no appreciation for the good of the country. A change now would be utter turmoil for the country and no one is going to get a deal that everyone is 100% happy with. I have to say, I admire her for this. Corbyn couldn’t even get his arse into gear to wear an appropriate jacket for Remembrance Sunday,, boris Johnson is a joke, that dweeb who quit as brexit secretary couldn’t do that job right so don’t think he can do the main job! Sturgeon isa scratched record!
I don’t even think tm is the best of a bad bunch, I think the job is impossible and would have broken most other people. David Cameron bailed at the first hurdle! Really put us in the shit!. Whatever her politics, she’s an amazing, strong woman and it’s a shame that she won’t be recognised as such.

Bluntness100 · 15/11/2018 21:58

No one really believed that lying shit of no deal is better than a bad deal, did they

I suspect it was more no one really had a clue at the time she stated it. If they did we wouldn't have voted to leave. No one knew, not least the politicians.

Now they do know. That's the point. Now Teresa May knows exactly what sort of disaster that would be, and that's why she's trying to prevent it.

At the start she thought we stood a chance if we walked away, plus it was part of a negotiating tactic. Now she is making it clear we are fucked if we do.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/11/2018 21:58

I'm startled that people can't see that she didn't put herself in an impossible position.

There was absolutely no reason to trigger Article 50 without a plan, without a way forward, without a consensus.

There was no reason to call a GE then - and then to lose seats.

There is no reason to pursue a policy that is going to make our country suffer.

How strange that she is so admired.
