So many threads involving time and money spent on either their own or partners hobby, but never any mention of what the hobby is. Perhaps there is some sort of hobby hierarchy that I am unaware of where some hobbies are seen as bragging and some down right embarrassing.

OP posts:
CherryPavlova · 23/11/2018 18:57

Flamenco, cartography and decorating blown eggs.

Heartofglass21 · 23/11/2018 19:00

C0untDucku1a · 23/11/2018 19:18

My hobbies are watching netflix and drinking gin. Very outing.

LadyPasserine · 23/11/2018 19:18

My hobby is actually dogging and tonight in around two hours I will be in my usual place just off the A34 eleven miles south of Newbury which is a gateway by the watercress beds. I volunteer for Citizen's Advice on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Sundays I go to church.

"Beekeeping. They've never thrived well enough to give us any honey. Keeping bees is good for the environment and all, but it is still a hobby."

Grin DD & I keep bees too - but at least I make no bones about the fact that they're pets rather than productive members of the household!

TBF I think as posters have said above, it's the combination of hobbies / other factors that outs people over a selection of threads. I've been recognised twice that I know of on here, and not from anything particularly unique, purely combinations of things.

I don't like to namechange regularly because I post on long running threads (mostly 50 books) so these days I just do a temporary change for anything I wouldn't share openly in RL.

This is just it. I remember a lady saying something like she worked out that Poster X turned out to be Janet from the tennis club because she also played tennis and Poster X posted a thread about her injury and how it impacted a tennis league game that weekend. The deducer had been affected by/involved in this, had a lightbulb moment and a quick look at Poster Xs posts revealed enough supplementary detail to ID Janet from tennis. Janet hadn't said where she lived, tennis is popular and it wasn't a unique/rare injury.

Jasmin82 · 23/11/2018 20:20

My hobbies are writing, cross stitch and horse riding.

OffIGoToMairisWedding · 23/11/2018 20:33

@OneStepMoreFun - where are you based (pm if you want!) There are a few societies. And if you ever need back up dancers to dazzle your honoured foreign guests, I can do Mairi's Grin

Heartofglass21 · 23/11/2018 20:44

@LadyPasserine You are Emma (name changed) and your husband is Tom (name changed) and i'm waiting at the layby just off the A34 eleven miles south of Newbury - where are you?

Wavyheaded · 23/11/2018 20:51

Metalsmithing. And crochet.

SD1978 · 23/11/2018 21:06

@Heartofglass21- now I know you. Is it your turn or Emma's to bring the tea? I've remembered the tunnoks tea cakes this week. Sorry for the mix up last week.

SD1978 · 23/11/2018 21:07

@Ringbinger- quick!! Name change and reference 'naive ham' and Le is beakers to price longevity of posting/reading habits Grin

SD1978 · 23/11/2018 21:07

Bloody hell. Penis beaker even.

Poppyinagreenfield · 23/11/2018 21:10

Gardening, sewing and keeping fit.

DailyMailFuckRightOff · 23/11/2018 21:15

My hobbies are correcting the recycling while swearing, chasing the dog out of the room and trying to get my toddler to put their shoes on. And mumsnetting.

Lineofbeauty · 23/11/2018 21:16

Mine are music, going to gigs, DIY, sports and singing/ playing instruments. And crocheting tiny elfin clothes for Slyvanians not really

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 23/11/2018 21:17

Playing the drums. Baking. Googling obscure shit. Watching horror films.

Lineofbeauty · 23/11/2018 21:18

Sylvanians was nearly auto corrected to tiny elfin clothes for Albanians. Which would have been a Freudian slip Wink

Lineofbeauty · 23/11/2018 21:19

Ooh doyoulike are you good at drums? I'd love to be but have no rhythm.

Jezzifishie · 23/11/2018 21:21

My hobbies are watching F1, board games, knitting and hotel trips (usually involving board games and knitting). That combo may actually be a bit outing, but never mind!

TheWickedWitchofWestYorkshire · 23/11/2018 21:25

My hobbies are colouring in, creating "art" I use the term very loosely) and setting up little still life scenes on the dining room table and taking photos of them - usually food because then I get to eat it afterwards.

Dc don't really have anything apart from running from room to room and making a mess.

Dh plays on his PS4 when he gets the chance. Lots of people on mn sneer about grown adults playing video games so I often wonder if that's why they'd rather say 'hobby'.

PeevedOfPortishead · 23/11/2018 21:51

Falconry, geisha and tap.

Accountant222 · 23/11/2018 21:51

I've never really had a hobby, I do watch TV though. Up to a few years ago I had a high pressure job, so down time was drinking wine and shit tv, I was stretched enough with work

AlexanderHamilton · 23/11/2018 22:04

Dh doesn’t have a hobby. He used to as a child but then it became his career.

Dd is now training in her hobby full time and hopes to make it her career.

Ds is leaning the same way.

My hobby is being a taxi service to them all (though I do love watching musical theatre shows)
