To think my partner is having an affair because of strange delivery?

Mumshotel · 14/11/2018 19:50

My partner has been working away a lot in the last 3 months. Like almost constantly away Mon to Fri. That's fine.

Today a parcel came, I get a lot from e bay and it looked like an e bay parcel... hand written address, post office packaging etc.

I opened it as i was expecting some tops I had bought from e bay. I opened it and it was my partners shirt. Washed, ironed and folded. No note but by the address it said from honey???? In pen.

I asked him why his shirt has been delivered and he said he has bought another from e bay???? Why would you. It's not even one of his nice ones.
Am I being a big mad paranoid loser?

Please just ask him nicely without going mad before you get upset or draw any conclusions. And that’s coming from someone whose DH has multiple affairs and then left us. But I still regret how I handled it! Stay calm until you KNOW what is going on. Communication is key. Tell him you’re worried and ask for the proof it’s an eBay buy. His response will tell you everything. My fingers are crossed for you that it’s just from an eBay lunatic. x

A ebay purchase would have an email trail - have you access to his emails.

Is it a favourite T-shirt? I would think that he had bought a second of a favourite "just in case". I had a BF once who took ages to find somewhere that stocked a certain style of Reeboks and then bought two pairs.

AskMeHow · 14/11/2018 20:17

It sounds plausible to me. If the shirt in the packaging is new.

Of more interest, is why you'd immediately suspect an affair, instead of being mildly puzzled about DH buying an identical shirt to one he already has.

EvaHarknessRose · 14/11/2018 20:18

I guess worth bearing in mind it could be affair or he could be paying for sex although in either scenario sending it to home address seems weird. Him lying about it is a giveaway though.

lostinjapan · 14/11/2018 20:21

It could be entirely innocent. I've never bothered including an invoice when I've sold anything on eBay. Also when I, for instance, have a jumper that I really love but can't get instore anymore, then I'll go on eBay and find a second hand one (for when the one I've got wears out). You might not think it's one of his nice shirts but he might think it's particularly comfortable or well fitting or flattering.

yorkshirepud44 · 14/11/2018 20:22

It's weird. I once accidentally intercepted a package of books sent to xh at work when I was helping out in his business one day. It came with a little post it thanking him for his help and signed S. I filed it in the odd but harmless category due to there being no other supporting evidence.

Later found out he was a unfaithful bastard after S systematically contacted me, his family, friends, employers and everyone he knew and told us so. Shock

IwantaHippopotamusForChristmas · 14/11/2018 20:23

Hmm strange. Could be an eBay buy though. Is it a shirt you have bought him previously that he wanted to replace because he lost or damaged?
Doubt a lady friend would wash and iron.. maybe just post back if she wanted you to find out. Because then you could smell it was his 😬

Hubblebubbletripletrouble · 14/11/2018 20:23

Hmmm I can’t see a reasonable explanation. Sorry...

Glasshalffull99 · 14/11/2018 20:25

I can't see a reasonable explanation here sorry OP.

Lovemusic33 · 14/11/2018 20:25

If you were having an affair would you give the other woman your address? I doubt it very much.

If he has bought it then he will still have the original/identical shirt?

PiggeryPorcombe · 14/11/2018 20:25

You can search completed items from your account. Just go to men’s shirts, select used and completed items and list in date order for the last week (or two maybe) and see if the offending article is there.

Sounds dodgy though Flowers

grumiosmum · 14/11/2018 20:26

I sell a lot of 2nd hand clothes on eBay, including men's shirts, and never, ever include an invoice or seller's note with them.

His explanation is entirely plausible.

And DH has a couple of identical shirts. Male thing.

Namechangemum100 · 14/11/2018 20:27

Sorry to say it does seem very suspicious op. Hope you are ok!

esk1mo · 14/11/2018 20:27

i’ve worked in 5 hotels over the years and we have never mailed back a shirt to a guest. people leave all sorts and maybe around 5% of guests actually get in contact to ask if we found whatever they left.

he would have had to realised he left the shirt, decided he really wanted it back and contacted the hotel. why wouldnt he just say that then? he has said he bought it on ebay.

why would he give a mistress his address? does he work with any women?

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 14/11/2018 20:28

Well if he's bought it from Ebay then it's very easy for him to prove that from Paypal, his bank account, his Ebay account.

If he won't prove it to you or it's not on his account then he's lied to you and then you've got to ask yourself why. I think the answer to that is quite obvious.

Also, Google the address

BumbleBeee69 · 14/11/2018 20:28

does the Parcel have an ebay invoice or complimentary slip from the seller saying thank you for the purchase Hmm

TableSalt · 14/11/2018 20:28

Why did you open a package addressed to him?

VioletPickles · 14/11/2018 20:30

How strange? Looks like someone wants him to get caught

ChooChooBeanz · 14/11/2018 20:30

Something similar happened to a friend of mine, spiteful lover wanted to cause trouble. But I’m hoping that’s not the cAse for you op xx

HaulingFreight · 14/11/2018 20:32

Mmm sounds dodgy to me sorry OP

YearOfYouRemember · 14/11/2018 20:33

Person thing. I also have more of one of the same item.

OP, I hope it's not an affair.

speakingtruthfully · 14/11/2018 20:34

Was there a return post code or address you could google
Also any purchase on eBay would have an email attached to it so if you have access to his emails , look there

Mumshotel · 14/11/2018 20:35

I followed the advice to look on e bay sold items and it's there. Exactly the same. Sold on 9th Nov.

I asked him why he's so weird buying the same shirt. He said he likes the fit and it goes with loads. I think he's telling the truth. He can be a very literal person . And he tends to eat the same meal an awful lot so maybe he just just really really like the shirt. 😶

OP posts:
ohwownosnow · 14/11/2018 20:35

Hmmm how did he seem when you asked him?

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 14/11/2018 20:36

I've just realised that the address you mentioned is your home address rather than a return address.

If it is your home address, ignore what I said about Googling it.
