I am not in the UK. I do sympathise with the Brexit disaster unfolding, I know people in the UK have much bigger concerns for their economy, than the NI border and GFA.

I am horrified the DUP were invited in. They are nasty poison bastards and I fear they will not agree to anything because it makes things different in NI. They do not care about cross border business, or fighting, as long as there the same as the UK. It is all a nightmare.
I watched a few clips on YouTube of Pop goes Northern Ireland of different stages during the troubles. It is very good, for anyone unaware of the fighting in NI.
Not an aibu. Just a rant.

At least the UK and the rest world can see what bigots they are See how hard it is to be anywhere near their thumb, never mind under it like NI.

I live in NI, am a Unionist and I can tell you that the DUP are corrupt filth. They have been, are and will only ever be about one thing: the accumulation of cash. Witness the numerous financial they've been involved in: Constituency Office rent, Seymour Benson, Red Sky, RHI, Peter and Iris Robinson, etc, etc.

The majority of their support comes from those who don't like to think too much and won't be encouraged to anyway. I've seen Ian Paisley Jr swaggering around my hometown after he survived the recall petition, and it truly sickened me, especially since he is a member of a party that professes to be Christian, a claim also made by a large part of their support . He lobbied against UK support for a UN investigation into Sri Lankan genocide that included the murder of 40,000 Christians in four months, after accepting at least £100,000 of 'hospitality' from the Sri Lankan Government. This is the sort of person given full support by his Party and ther support. Mind boggling.....

At the recent Tory Party conference, attendees thought the DUP were the NI 'wing' of the Tory Party; they were so clueless about NI, they weren't even aware that the Tories organise in NI and stand in Local Council elections.

TLDR; The DUP are like a cross between a completely hypocritical Taliban and bent Wall St. Investment Bankers.... trust them at your peril.

Nice use of language being used by some on this thread. Hmm

bellinisurge · 14/11/2018 14:00

@Maursh - google how NI voted in the referendum. There will have had to have been Unionist and Nationalist support for Remain. Only the DUP wants this shit. It voted against the GFA. Which should tell you all you need to know about them.

Amaried · 14/11/2018 14:02

Feel so sorry for people of Northern Ireland with this crowd in government . They have turned down a deal which gave NI the best of both worlds with a foot in each camp and they turned it down to the detriment of the poor people who live there because they didn't want to be
differently.
The mind boggles.

Miscible · 14/11/2018 14:04

The thing is, this was absolutely predictable. The wankiness lay in Theresa May buying herself a majority via them and allowing them into a position of power.

bellinisurge · 14/11/2018 14:06

Anyone who thought these wankers were some branch of the Tory Party in NI is a FUCKING IDIOT.

Lilifer · 14/11/2018 14:07

Scubadoobie I am also an NI resident and I could not have put it better myelf! Hear Hear! Smile

I’m not a fan of the DUP at all generally but can’t really blame them for not wanting NI to be treated differently to the rest of the country.

NI can't be treated the same as the rest of the UK when it comes to gay marriage and abortion but must be treated the same way for trade.

Read the tweets at twitter.com/HomeRather and tell me they're not heartless bastards - trigger warning - these tweets are pretty graphic

EmeraldShamrock · 14/11/2018 14:07

MiggledyHiggins No I meant the Republic. I grew up in Co Monaghan, moved to Dublin, meet a guy from Belfast working in the NI branch, eventually moved to Belfast and now back in Dublin. The family and friends I know who sympathise with NI innocent victims are from the Republic.

Curiousdad18 · 14/11/2018 14:11

I am the first to admit I know nothing about NI history and current political landscape, but the DUP was voted in with 10/18 seats. I am not understanding the commentary. Obviously 55% NI do agree with their policies

@Maursh - er.. no ever heart of first past the post. If you check en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom_general_election,2017(Northern_Ireland) the DUP got 36% of the vote.

IDontGiveAFuckWhatArleneWears · 14/11/2018 14:13

If Sinn Fein would get some balls and decide on this to temporarily suspend their abstentionist policy they could greatly reduce the DUP's influence.

Juells · 14/11/2018 14:13

I think it’s insane listening to a lot of people’s views on NI. I can appreciate how you’d be frustrated if your country was suggesting isolating you further by putting a border between you and the rest of the country.

Don't know what to make of this post. You do know that there's a border plonked in Ireland, which cuts off a portion of the province of Ulster from 'the rest of the country' don't you?

bellinisurge · 14/11/2018 14:17

Still not clear why you think Ireland has to bear any guilt for NI.
While Ireland has a lot to answer for allowing the Church so much influence in the Republic, that's a separate issue which Ireland is working on.

MiggledyHiggins · 14/11/2018 14:18

I'm incredibly sympathetic for the innocent victims in the North as are most Irish people I know, but that's not guilt which you say you think Irish people feel when it comes to NI.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 14/11/2018 14:19

The DUP only want NI to be treated the same way as the rest of the U.K. when it suits them. They continue to oppose and block gay marriage and abortion.

This.

They want to be the same as the Mainland, except when they don't.

DarlingNikita · 14/11/2018 14:21

If Sinn Fein would get some balls and decide on this to temporarily suspend their abstentionist policy they could greatly reduce the DUP's influence.

Yeah, I think this too.

Theresa May chose to lie down with the DUP and she will find herself getting up with fleas.

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/11/2018 14:21

Arlene purports to be Christian. She is anything but like her. When I saw her on the news this morning, she reminded me of Damian from the Omen. I wonder if there is 666 under that mane of hair.

EmeraldShamrock · 14/11/2018 14:23

bellinisurge I don't think Ireland should bear guilt as such. I do in a patriotic sense. Silly I know it was along time ago, but growing up on the history, then watching the violence and death on the news always made me feel guilt for those in the 6 counties.

OP posts:
GladAllOver · 14/11/2018 14:23

The DUP are absolute wankers

I wouldn't have thought so. With their extreme religious views they probably think that wanking is a mortal sin. :)

IDontGiveAFuckWhatArleneWears · 14/11/2018 14:25

Please don't call Northern Ireland the 6 counties.

shearwater · 14/11/2018 14:25

YANBU, OP.

Namelessinseattle · 14/11/2018 14:30

@juells exactly- l don’t know if you noticed but that didn’t exactly work out for the best. Ireland weren’t exactly thrilled about it, it resulted in a civil war and then decades of troubles. Whereas Britain seem to be totally chill about it. If I was a unionist I’d be fairly pissed off. Same way if I was a nationalist in the 1920’s I’d be fairly pissed off at the Anglo Irish treaty.
