Am I just old or do half of 20-something year old girls look the flipping same?

My daughter was watching Love Island back in the summer and I joined her for a few minutes to see what the fuss was about. The thing I couldn't get over was how she could even tell them apart! It's a cloned fake 'look' that they nearly all had - huge dark eyebrows, trowelled on foundation, over-plumped glossy lips, etc...

I've noticed it on other shows and when out and about, it's almost like a mask that everyone has to put on so they look like a snapchat filter when they leave the house.

What happened to being individuals? Why do so many girls spend so much time and money to look exactly the same as everyone else?

Like I said, maybe I'm just old and grumpy...

Young girls do all look the same these days.

When the local school comes out here, all girls from about 15 look the same, same make up, hair, even glasses! And it continues until about 25 ish.

I think some just don’t have the confidence to stand out from the crowd, which is sad really

I feel the same. They look awful and are probably so pretty underneath that crap. It depresses me TBH. (I'm 47 though! so old!)

It's just the fashion. It'll change again soon enough.

I agree OP. Maybe my generation all looked the same around that time too though?

I think it’s the social media obsession. Everything is for likes. You have to be ‘selfie ready’ which is honestly just the most depressing thing ever. Too many narcissistic budgies about IMO.

It's the eyebrows; they stop you really noticing any other features.

I think the same about teenage boys. Must be my age.

You're right but I think it's sad, it's not something to be mocked.

Social media has completely warped the idea of not just what is beautiful, but simply what people feel is 'acceptable' to go out into the world.

I think it has always been the same. When I look at my leavers Year photo from school in the mid 90s almost every girl had a perm. I'm sure they thought they all looked great. I didn't have a perm, I was never cool.

I'm a twenty (something ) and I get the fad you're on about but I personally don't involve myself in it. Don't dye my naturally dark hair, foundation (medium coverage as I have redness) + fill in brows (not draw shape)+ mascara and a lip balm and that's me for the day. Also very pale and don't fake tan, would never get lip fillers etc. I do know the trend you're on about but most people I know personally my age don't follow this one, and most of us don't have 2.5 hours to spend getting ready before we leave. But I do see a lot of school girls following that Love Island trend and it doesn't look good on real people in real light.

I think you're wrong, I think the younger generation are more beautifully diverse than any of my gen were at school! Must be different where I live, or maybe I'm just looking closer?

Someone gave me an issue of Closer magazine a while ago. All the celebrities looked exactly the same.

Last night I watched Only Connect and the women on it looked so lovely and normal. It made me realise how rare that is on TV these days.

I can remember around 1984/5 and all the Madonna lookalikes. Before that, as said, it was the perm. Previously you slipped into Mod/Punk/Rock/New Romantic.

I think the only change is income. Young Women have never had the spending power/freedom that they do now.

It's the same old question of "is freedom a good thing?", yes it is, but we never have full freedom. It then becomes about the constraints that you put on yourself.

My DDs don't follow the fashion, but we are naturally beautiful and confident. I was dismayed to see what Marnie and Holly from Geordie Shore had done to themselves, both beautiful Women, but so lacking in confidence.

I agree that it's scary to be among the cloned look. At least the Playboy bunnies had a bit of their own look.

I noticed this in high school and uni 5-10 years ago. Saw one group of girls and they were literally clones of each other.

No i don’t think so either. How can an asian look like a South American look like a Scandinavian. I think what you could be picking up from is the girls make up looks?

They airbrush them to fit a look. It's ridiculous, though, they look nothing like themselves.

I bet people have been saying this since time began. Personally I think teenage and early twenty somethings look better than I remember young girls looking in ‘my day’ and I’m only 33. I always find they look very polished. Has everyone forgot the white eyeshadow and glitter we used to wear?!!

We see bands of teenage girls coming out of school. We call them the ‘hairy girls’ as they all seem to have the same long hair.

I went to an event at the German School in London last week, and it was honestly refreshing to see girls without a ton of make up on.
Yes, they still looked somewhat like close, as they all wore similar trainers, jeans and jumpers, but they all looked so fresh faced. It was eye opening.

The other weird thing is that they all adopt 'that' pose for photographs, the side on, leg sticking out one.

I saw a group of young women who had been diving with one of the dive companies I have on my facebook, and they were all lined up doing the pose in a photo. Looked very odd all lined up like that in wetsuits.

I think it is just following fashion. When I look back at photo's of my generation at this age in the 80's we all looked like a bad imitation of Pricess Diana.

I think it's always been that way, you just don't notice it when you are part of it. Someone on facebook shared a photo the other day of my year group at school in the mid 2000s. Almost everyone had straightened hair, big swoopy fringes, but I never thought we all looked the same at the time. Pictures of my mum as a young adult, everyone had big plasticky glasses, perms, and similar haircuts. You just notice the small details more when it's a trend you're part of.

I agree op. But I do also think it's mainly the huge eyebrows. I'm 37 and when I was younger everyone had pencil thin eyebrows, which now, looking back looked just as bad if not worse! The plumped lips just look awful imo. They really don't just look like nice full lips, they look fake and uncomfortable, that is the trend that I don't understand.
