Am I just old or do half of 20-something year old girls look the flipping same?

My daughter was watching Love Island back in the summer and I joined her for a few minutes to see what the fuss was about. The thing I couldn't get over was how she could even tell them apart! It's a cloned fake 'look' that they nearly all had - huge dark eyebrows, trowelled on foundation, over-plumped glossy lips, etc...

I've noticed it on other shows and when out and about, it's almost like a mask that everyone has to put on so they look like a snapchat filter when they leave the house.

What happened to being individuals? Why do so many girls spend so much time and money to look exactly the same as everyone else?

Like I said, maybe I'm just old and grumpy...

There have always been fashions but I think it's the hair. Always long and usually 'bronde'. People definitely didn't get hair coloured regularly at the hairdresser like they do now.

What's a little sad for me anyway, is if they're wearing make up from teens, thanks to tutorials and high end mua brands being more commonplace it's bam - flawless contoured photo ready perfection from the get go. There doesn't seem to be the experimental phase, the one where you go through ALL the colours, AND the glitter, and the hair mascara Blush

It's more about being instagram ready. Although a filter can do all that for you anyways!

I am at college with 100s of teens they most certainly do not all look the same. Some wear loads of make up some dont long hair is definitely more prevalent that is true. But they mist certainly dont all look the same thats really unfair, and the insta look is just a fashion just like any fashion ever any time.

But loads of girls don’t look like that with the brows and the highlighter. There’s always been groups within young people and you pick your gang.
When I went to uni i used to go to a goth club and even then I enjoyed the irony of the conformity of all these non conformists. They all looked the same and they all danced the same - certain songs had particular head bangy direction or arm movements. They looked choreographed.
I guess we just see the mainstream much more now with social media and societies celeb obsessions. But look closer at young people and you see they don’t all look the same at all. The geeks and goths are still there...

At least it will wash off - unlike tattoos

I see lots of 20 something girls (postgrads), they are all reasonably fresh faced and wearing either jeans and a jumper or nice sports wear.

It's the younger ones that seem to wear lots of make up and tiny clothes.

I'm really glad I didn't have smart phone/social media till I was an adult.

Aargh - women. slaps own wrist

Lovemademe · 14/11/2018 07:06

I know the look you mean but only on those awful programmes and among social media stars. I never see that trend amongst real life girls or women thank goodness.

Shockers · 14/11/2018 07:13

There have always been fashion, hair and makeup trends.

It’s the surgical procedures that stand out for me now. Those lips; are they supposed to look so odd? Confused.

DogMamma · 14/11/2018 07:38

What strikes me is the parents letting their very young girls (10-16) go out in cropped tops, tight jeans or leggings, a face full of make up. When did young girls stop looking like young girls, and have been allowed to dress much older than their age.
when I was that age I and all the girls looked really awkward, needed to grow into our bodies more, we didn't look in our late teens early 20's and we definitely weren't allowed to dress that way.

Good god. This thread

There’s just more photographic evidence now.

Loonoon · 14/11/2018 08:31

And they don’t all look the same to each other. They don’t see themselves as clones or sheep, they are aware of a million differences and subtleties of look that we cannot see. It’s because we are older and not part of their ‘set’ that they all look the same to us.
