I know, cardinal sin: posting in AIBU for traffic!

IABU, I know 😜

  1. what was your baby's hair like when they were born?

  2. what is it like now?

Very curious as me and DH both have thick curly black Afro hair and our 3 week old has straight blonde hair! Genetics eh!

DS1: born with thick (by Caucasian baby standards) dark hair, which all fell out after a couple of months to) eventually be replaced with blonde hair. Now light brown.

DS2: also born with dark hair but basically just fuzz, now at 4 months just has slightly longer fuzz (with obligatory bald patch from lying on his back)

Perfectly1mperfect · 12/11/2018 16:19

One of my children was born with black hair. By 18 months it was really blonde. Now it's mid brown and getting darker. My other child was born with dark brown hair and its stayed dark brown.

I have dark brown hair, their dad is blonde. Genes are very odd things !

Congratulations on your new baby.

Livinglavidal0ca · 12/11/2018 16:22

Born with a full head of thick black hair. Fell out after a few months and was bald for about a month or two bar a very long fringe Grin he's just turned one and has very long thick curly dark brown hair.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 12/11/2018 16:24

My cousin was born with white hair, we all used to call him bam bam. Now fully grown, he has jet black hair.

ThatOneHurt · 12/11/2018 16:25

DS 1 then - soft and ginger
DS 1 now - white blonde

DS 2 then - about 3 ash blonde hairs on his head
DS now - white blonde hair

DS 3 now - I'm not sure but given all the heart burn I'm getting he's going to come out looking like Brian May in his hey day.

Zoflorabore · 12/11/2018 16:25

Ds now 15, born with very dark hair, it was then white blonde until around 3 and gradually got darker and is now almost black.

Dd now 7 was born with light brown hair, straight. Woke up around 8 months old with one curl on the back of her head and now has shoulder length corkscrew girls that spring out of every inch of her head! Difficult to say a colour as there are several but I would say mid brown.
Dp is bald and I have almost black hair.

Roomba · 12/11/2018 16:26

My ex and I have dark brown hair. DS1 had a fair bit of fine dark hair when he was born, but it soon fell out. When he finally grew some hair two years later it was very blonde, which surprised us. It has got darker as he's got older though, I'd say it was medium brown now.

DS2 had white blonde hair from birth - loads of it, we used to call him Boris Johnson 😂. It's still very blonde six years later, though it's not as light now.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 12/11/2018 16:28

No baby here but I was born with a good head of jet black hair (also surprisingly long) and kept it. It went golden blonde.

Today I have thick hair dyed blonde from mouse (it got auburny bits and then finally went mouse as I hit 9 or so).

grace7 · 12/11/2018 16:28

Ds: born with very dark curly hair, but not as thick as I expected.
5 months on and he has lovely soft curls, like tight ringlets.

Dad has a very thick afro (mostly black but some brown areas), I have thick, curly brown hair.

OutPinked · 12/11/2018 16:28

All four of my DC were born with the same hair. Very fine, not all that much there tbh although not completely bald. The eldest three have thick uncontrollable hair that was very curly until they reached 4/5. Youngest is a baby but I’m imagining his will be the same.

Pythonesque · 12/11/2018 16:29

Both of mine - straight fine dark at birth perhaps an inch or 2 long. Replaced by fine fairly straight blonde. Darkened through childhood, both now teens with dark blonde, somewhat wavy hair.

naicepineapple · 12/11/2018 16:30

DS is part Persian. His hair was dark when he was born, it all fell out and now is straight and blonde and light blue eyes like me.

MissDai5y · 12/11/2018 16:30

DD was born with really dark hair that is getting gradually lighter. She's nearly 5 mths and its turning white blonde in places.

Never fully fell out yet, usual bald patch in the back. I've got dirty blonde hair and dp has brown hair.

We were both fair as kids but never white blonde.

Hoping she's not going to look like one of the children of the damned but time will tell.

Pollypanda · 12/11/2018 16:32

DS was born with thick dark hair. It all fell out within a couple of months. He’s now almost 1 and has white blonde hair.

RChick · 12/11/2018 16:33

Born with thick head of 1.5 inch long dark spikes - to the extent it prevented ventouse delivery
6 months later, three inch slightly lighter spikes

sizzledrizz · 12/11/2018 16:34

Well I'm mixed race and have very relaxed affro hair, as in it looks curly after product, my father was half Kenyan. My children all had straight hair when born, and it is now a little wavy, but not affro. My sister's daughter has affro hair.

TheWickedWitchofWestYorkshire · 12/11/2018 16:36

Both were born with long, dark, wild hair. The youngest's was longer, darker and more wild.
Dc1's hair fell out and had a bald patch at the back for nearly 2 years until it grew back thick and blond.
Dc2's hair didn't fall out and stayed long and wild until I cut it. Then it went blonde. It's now fairly long but very fine and a bit curly.

tissuesosoft · 12/11/2018 16:37

DD born with dark dark brown hair (full head!) but she’s nearly 3 and it is light brown with natural blonde highlights in it.

To ask you 2 questions about your baby's hair...?
BumsexAtTheBingo · 12/11/2018 16:38

Hair can totally change. Ds was born with the blackest hair that got lighter and lighter until now it’s a really light blond but his eyebrows are still very dark!
His siblings hair got darker with age. Hair is weird.

fruitshot · 12/11/2018 16:38

Eldest, born with slightly brown, was very curly as a white blonde toddler. Now 11 and has golden blonde wavy hair.

Youngest born auburn, turned white and curly, now poker straight and white.

I'm blonde, husband is ginger.

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 12/11/2018 16:39

Oldest daughter born with brown hair with blonde tips. Now has brown curly hair at 6.

Youngest born with peach fuzz. Now 1 1/2 it’s not grown much Grin

Louiselouie0890 · 12/11/2018 16:40

She was bald we both have thick dark hair. Now she's 1 and ginger

Binglejellies · 12/11/2018 16:43

Hair colour isn’t genetic.
I say this as someone who received donor egg and sperm & whose clinic invested their profits into this subject.

PeplumP · 12/11/2018 16:46

@Binglejellies it must be to an extent? What about whole families that have red hair, or my whole Caribbean family who all have Black Afro hair? There must be some genetic link even if it's not firmly established?
