To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak

It's 11 hours after the event, but at the cenotaph amongst all of the black coats stood Jeremy Corbin in a blue anorak with hood flapping, is this really the best he could do?

WTF has a coat got to do with honouring anyone?

The coat per se is a bit of a red herring, Jeramy Corbyn's refusal/inability to present himself appropriately in any given situation shows him in a poor light. Like it or not, there are certain expectations attached to high-level roles in the public arena - adhering to dress codes is part of that!

woman11017 · 11/11/2018 23:28

I don't care about his clothes.

Following an illegally funded opinion poll to wreck the lives of the whole country is a bit annoying though.

99RedBalloonsFloating · 11/11/2018 23:29

THE QUEEN may have been wearing black at the cenotaph, but she was wearing a purple coat in front of the grave of the fallen soldier, which contrasted nicely with the gazillion coloured jackets of various royals, and that bald guy's blue and gold cape. They won't be getting my vote next time.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/11/2018 23:30

There are plenty of low and middle rank jobs where you would be sacked for not dressing appropriately. JC is just insulting people when he thinks he can disrespect the UK in this way.

woman11017 · 11/11/2018 23:33

Supporting a 'brexit' which will cause people to lose their sight and worse isn't very nice either. Worse than wearing the 'wrong' jacket. Hmm

Brexit: Patients fear losing sight as government refuses to guarantee essential drugs after no deal

Exclusive: Ministers will not reveal which medicines are being stockpiled – leaving sufferers from glaucoma living in fear

I care more about his policies than what he looks like (for what it's worth I think he looked perfectly respectable). I think he explains rather well in this link:

LasMeninas · 11/11/2018 23:35

It's really weird how much people care about what people wear. And it's not like he was in a clown suit or something.

GingerbreadBlob · 11/11/2018 23:36

He was rude imo.

flossietoot · 11/11/2018 23:37

‘Because he is representing our country’- fair enough, but why does he need to be in a wool coat to be able to do that?? Does it give him special powers?? I am a charity director for a charity works with the very vulnerable. Do you think when I go and present to politicians on how their funding has been spent and what the major issues are, my brain works better when I have put on a blazer than when I in my jeans and jumper?? That I should be taken more seriously?? that my qualifications mean more??

jasjas1973 · 11/11/2018 23:37

Under funding the services ex men and women so desperately need after serving their country is the biggest dishonourable thing any politician can do.

What any political leader wears is irrelevant, though i'm tempted to start a thread about the bl00dy hat May was wearing in Westminster Abbey today, she looked like Fagin, so quite apt.

flossietoot · 11/11/2018 23:38

A lion doesn’t need to tell people it’s a lion.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/11/2018 23:40

I care more about his policies than what he looks like

Most people care about both.

Who wants their country represented by someone who looks like a homeless person? (Or someone who cant afford a proper coat?)

I mean do you want to join the USA and be represented by someone who is the laughing stock of the world?

cdtaylornats · 11/11/2018 23:40

Government no-deal = no insulin - bet that'll come as a surprise to type 1 diabetic Theresa May.

I'm surprised no one has suggested that next year there will be no poppies and everyone will be dressed like Corbyn due to Brexit.

According to a news source a truly hard brexit will leave 38 million EU firms uninsured.

VassalageorChaos · 11/11/2018 23:40

I was far more offended by the Duchesses of Sussex and Cambridge turning it into a bloody fashion show in their Givenchy and McQueen coats. Don't these people ever miss an opportunity to flaunt their wealth and privilege?

margotsdevil · 11/11/2018 23:41

OP totally agree with you and I was very vocal this morning watching the service on TV.

If the man wants to be the leader of a major political party and therefore presumably the leader of this county then he needs to behave in a way that means people will take him seriously. An overcoat of any muted colour (navy, black, dark grey) would have been fine. It's less about the anorak being "not black" and more about it being, well, an anorak. Fine to nip to Tesco but for what is basically a state occasion on national TV? Not so much so. I'm also pretty sure if I spent enough time googling I'd find a photo of him wearing a much more appropriate coat.

The disrespect isn't about the anorak as such. It's about his willingness to use such an occasion to make a political point that appalls me.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 11/11/2018 23:41

A lion doesn’t need to tell people it’s a lion

But it does need to LOOK like a lion!

everythingisginandroses · 11/11/2018 23:42

True, flossie. I don't think the anorak is bothered that some people are cross at it.

Tootyfilou · 11/11/2018 23:43

FFS this is a man that has won an international peace prize twice. This is a man that his entire political life has been spent looking for peaceful solutions to conflict. This is a man that has ALWAYS been in the right side of history. As opposed to the war mongers at the cenotaph May and Blair who are responsible for the deaths of thousands.
You might want to give a thought to the homeless veterans whilst you are at it... adding to the hypocrisy of our Prime Minister.
If none of that bothers you and you think a mans coat is more important. God help you.

jasjas1973 · 11/11/2018 23:44

and not in black either, how disrespectful!

To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak
citiesofbismuth · 11/11/2018 23:44

He couldn't be bothered to make an effort to look smart. Hardly surprising really. The man's a joke.

shiningstar2 · 11/11/2018 23:44

Corbyn is Leader of the Opposition. A massive honour, as is being Leader of the Labour Party. I am an ordinary person ...nothing special...but when I attend a funeral I dress formally ...as smart as possible ...out of respect for the deceased and their family.

Corbyn is a very high ranking MP representing the opposition and his party at the equivalent of the nation's most important ceremony to remember war dead. He does himself no favours by appearing, as a previous poster suggested, like a petulant teenager making some obscure point by not complying with the dress code expected of him.

As a Leader of the Opposition who has in the past refused to resign when his own party wanted him to, it seems fair to assume that he aspires to be Prime Minister. If that happens he would have the final say in sending our troops into the firing line. Visually being clear that he feels total respect for for past generations who've laid their life on the line at the order of Politicians who stay nice and safe behind the lines is the minimum which could be expected of him.

Dressing appropriately in line with what is expected for a politician in his position, is not venerating war it is showing proper respect.

I respect those with a different opinion ...you're entitled to it ...that's what democracy is all about.

flossietoot · 11/11/2018 23:45

‘Looks like a homeless person’. Lovely. Have a look at the stats on homelessness and veterans.
Honestly- I am astounded at the stupidity of some people.

Username198 · 11/11/2018 23:46

Walkingdeadfangirl

Trump is ridiculed because of what he says and does not what he wears. Jeremy Corbyn would be a great Prime Minister.

NotACleverName · 11/11/2018 23:46

JC is just insulting people when he thinks he can disrespect the UK in this way.

If you’re insulted and/or disrespected the colour of someone’s bloody coat, you really need to get out more.

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 11/11/2018 23:46

Doesn't bother me. I just wish he'd oppose brexit.
