To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak

popcornwizard · 11/11/2018 22:10

It's 11 hours after the event, but at the cenotaph amongst all of the black coats stood Jeremy Corbin in a blue anorak with hood flapping, is this really the best he could do?

I agree Thymeout. It's such obvious nonsense. But all said with a straight face.

HauntedPencil · 14/11/2018 22:15

It's a thread on an Internet forum?

It's not a straw man, people are chatting about something you might find ridiculous but clearly others don't.

How is it distracting anyone from anything?

HauntedPencil · 14/11/2018 22:17

I was having a rare old time last night before it got serous again to be honest.

I just can't think about world peace 24/7 sorry.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 14/11/2018 22:22

oh yes Brexit is so under reported on the news I am waiting for the BBC to mention it

Mikklehaha · 14/11/2018 22:23

I was referring specifically to you, haunted pencil, you put words in my mouth so you could knock them down. I didn’t mention corbyn’s political brilliance and you know it.
Now we could go back and forth over this all night ( I won’t because I have to go to bed because I’m a grown up) so you will be free to misrepresent what people say if you please. But I know what you did and you know you were in the wrong. 😆

HauntedPencil · 14/11/2018 22:29
Confused
popcornwizard · 14/11/2018 22:43

Who knew that a flapping anorak hood and a missing 'y' could cause so much anguish?

This will stop you in your tracks next time you get slightly Cross at a flapping hood OP.

everythingisginandroses · 14/11/2018 23:19

Don't mess with my hood, mofo.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/11/2018 12:17

Apparently JC wore an overcoat last year - which makes this more incomprehensible to me.

I think that Remembrance is an emotive subject for some, and people clearly feel very passionately about it. As I said earlier, it doesn't bother me too much, but I would not wish to think that something I had done, or failed to do, might make some people feel hurt by what they would perceive as a lack of respect for Remembrance and what it means - that is why I would ensure I observed the conventions, if I were at a Remembrance ceremony - and I think public figures should bear people's feelings about this in mind too.

C8H10N4O2 · 15/11/2018 13:18

So much easier to have a go at [..]the school his parents chose for him [..]

In most cases I'd agree with this but having met Corbyn several times in the past (some years ago) I was struck by the frequency and speed with with which he dropped his socialist pedigree into the conversation and his parents meeting at Caxton hall etc.

After he took the leadership every early interview included the same references early on. If he wants to keep citing his parental pedigree he can't pick and choose which behaviours he wants associated.

Apparently JC wore an overcoat last year - which makes this more incomprehensible to me

Yes he did, I remember it. There was plainly hope amongst the tabloids that he would do a "Michael Foot" and he was perfectly turned out even by DM standards. Considering the amount of effort and people managing his appearances and his words on media I wouldn't assume this year was entirely accidental.

jwalkden · 15/11/2018 13:23

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius
read the damn thread! - it is directed at whoever decided to 'have a go' after I posted the comment about what Owen Jones said (and the fact that I agreed with the comment 100%) AND its directed at anyone else who decides to have a go afterwards about the post/comment afterwards. Basically their comments just go to show exactly how shallow ant petty people can be with such a lack of priority - to be more obsessed about what the guy is wearing than the fact that he was paying his respects, dressed for the weather. He wasn't looking scruffy - he looked OK. But of course there are some that just like to have a go anyway. Also some of the posts on here regarding Corbyn - mixing or supporting terrorists - I would suggest you go and do some proper research - and I don't mean the right wing press either (because clearly that is what many on here seem to be reading). Have a nice day.

LassWiADelicateAir · 15/11/2018 13:35

The points are not petty or shallow. This is all connected to Corbyn's personality.

It was a deliberate choice to flout convention. Clothes send out signals. The signal sent to me was Corbyn is a vain, egotistical prat who thinks he is above the convention, which everyone else followed, that the official attendees at the Cenotaph wear formal black. Corbyn thinks he is more important than anyone else there.

And as for "turning up to pay his respects" it is part of his job to attend events like this. Zero points for that.

LassWiADelicateAir · 15/11/2018 13:36

And he did look scruffy compared to the people standing beside him.

happinessischocolate · 15/11/2018 13:39

Apparently JC wore an overcoat last year - which makes this more incomprehensible to me.

Maybe it wasn't expected to rain last year or maybe it did and he got soaked whilst talking to the veterans afterwards and decided on a raincoat this year. I seem to remember that the papers made some bullshit up about him last year and edited a photo in a certain way, so let's face it if he had worn an overcoat this year they'd just have found something else to get "outraged" about.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/11/2018 13:56

@jwalkden - no need to bite my head off - it was a reasonable question. And I don't think it is entirely unreasonable for me not to remember who directed which comments to another poster - so whilst it was clearly obvious to you who the comment was directed at, it wasn't clear to me!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 15/11/2018 13:58

@happinessischocolate (love the username, btw) - I agree that some elements of the media can be very petty about JC - so why did he provide them with an easy target?

dawnacorns · 15/11/2018 14:00

He could have brought an umbrella with him and left it with an aide, if he was worried about getting wet.

LassWiADelicateAir · 15/11/2018 14:08

Is he made of icing sugar? No one else seemed to be terrified of melting.

derxa · 15/11/2018 14:10

Is he made of icing sugar? No one else seemed to be terrified of melting. Grin Yes what was the problem about him getting wet.

tinstar · 15/11/2018 14:22

Shame it didn't rain - would have been interesting to see if he'd have put his hood up.

Limensoda · 15/11/2018 14:31

It was a deliberate choice to flout convention

You spoke to him then?

Bowchicawowow · 15/11/2018 14:49

Michael Rosen has written this poem on the subject.

It’s not his coat they hate.
That’s not really their cause
What gets up their noses?
He opposes all their wars.

popcornwizard · 15/11/2018 14:56

And I have written this poem about it

It really is the flappy hood,
I don't think it looks good.
