To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak

It's 11 hours after the event, but at the cenotaph amongst all of the black coats stood Jeremy Corbin in a blue anorak with hood flapping, is this really the best he could do?

He was at work. He had a long day ahead, in and out of the rain. This is what men his age wear to work over their suit and tie - an unassuming, practical M and S raincoat - 'perfect for business and leisure' as one 65+ helpfully puts it on the website! I'm actually surprised he doesn't seem to have been slated for the cost of it - '£79 for a thin raincoat, flash bastard, grrrrrr' Smile

To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak

”Actually all of the personal attacks on Corbyn are a diversion away from actual Labour policy.”

I agree with this - which is why I question the wisdom of his decision to wear that coat, and give his detractors such an easy target. Did his desire to stand out, or to be deliberately different, or his need to stick to a minor principle count for more than the need to focus attention on the real issues?

HauntedPencil · 14/11/2018 15:06

As the leader of the opposition he will be subject to public scrutiny. This includes his behaviour/demeanour and presentation at public events

Why should he be any different because you think his policies are good?

He is a politician just like the rest of them. Elevating him to a god-like status that can't be criticised is almost cult-like.

Perfectly fine if you think he looks smart but no one has any right to shut down any discussion at all.

Mikklehaha · 14/11/2018 15:20

It’s so sad that so many people are happy to use such a profoundly important occasion to express dislike of an anorak. Pathetic, small minded, petty nonsense.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/11/2018 15:25

@Mikklehaha - he could have refused them the opportunity to express their disgust at his choice of coat - failing to do so was either a really stupid PR mistake, or it was deliberate on his part - because even the minor principle of what coat to wear matters more than not giving his detractors an easy open goal!

jwalkden · 14/11/2018 15:32

Oh - you didn't like Owen Jones's response - like you didn't like Corbyn's coat too eh. Yeah that says it all really - lol. You are quite clearly the type of person the Jones is talking about aren't you? The type that actually enjoys being outraged by stuff that doesn't really matter. There is a lot more that does matter in this world - which was the point I was trying to make with what Owen Jones said. Clearly that is beyond your comprehension though. Maybe one day you will learn (who knows). Have a nice day ...

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/11/2018 15:34

To whom is that remark addressed, @jwalkden?

HauntedPencil · 14/11/2018 16:14

Ah Owen Jones.

He has SO much credibility dosent he.

HauntedPencil · 14/11/2018 16:15

I don't read Owen Jones but if he's said that he has even less self awareness than I'd previously thought.

Limensoda · 14/11/2018 17:49

Adults claiming they absolutely know why man they don't really know wears a particular coat?!
Enough work there to keep a Shrink busy for months! Grin

Mikklehaha · 14/11/2018 18:04

SDTG
There is nothing wrong with what he was wearing. Nothing at all. This is just more superficial bollocks from the vacuous minded just desperate for something to criticise. It’s disingenuous at best. I think we’ve really seen the bottom of mumsney’s barrel with this one.

HauntedPencil · 14/11/2018 18:08

How do you know they are wrong? Did he give you a bell that day and talk you through his outfit choice?

Vicky1990 · 14/11/2018 18:34

Corbyn, man of the people who gave comfort and support to the IRA killers in Ireland, the same gang that murdered thousands of men, women, children, AND SOLDIERS.
You don't think he is going to show any respect by dressing properly and wearing a poppy do you.
He was the only one at the parade dressed as though he was going to a car boot sale, bastard.

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2018 18:37

“man of the people who gave comfort and support to the IRA killers in Ireland”

no he didn’t.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/11/2018 18:40

@Mikklehaha - I’m not saying what he wore was objectively wrong - I am sure there were plenty of people similarly attired at various Remembrance events - all I am saying is that, as he knew that some people and media would criticise him for wearing it, and that that would distract from the important issues, he could have prevented them from doing this by wearing an overcoat.

Basically he had the choice to offer his detractors an open goal, or to pull the rug out from under them.

Sadly, in politics today, the optics matter.

Vicky1990 · 14/11/2018 19:00

Google Jeremy Corbyn and the IRA.

Limensoda · 14/11/2018 19:06

Google Jeremy Corbyn and the IRA

And just look for bits that mention his name in the same sentence as the IRA and make up your own story thereafter? Grin

DappledThings · 14/11/2018 19:30

he knew that some people and media would criticise him

How do you know he knew that? You can't know that and not can anyone else.

If you'd said to me last week that he was going to wear a waterproof coat rather than a wool overcoat and asked me what the ramifications of that would be I'd have looked at you blankly trying to work out what on earth you were getting at.

Racecardriver · 14/11/2018 19:37

Oh but the man couldn’t dress properly to save his life. He is always turning up wearing something embarrassing. I really don’t think it was deliberate, he’s just not that bright.

Racecardriver · 14/11/2018 19:38

@Limensoda? He is openly sympathetic. It’s not a secret.

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2018 19:41

"Google Jeremy Corbyn and the IRA."

No. You said he gave "comfort and support" to the IRA. You need to provide evidence or withdraw the accusation.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 14/11/2018 19:46

Yes I agree Corbyn is different from many politicians

He sat on the back benches for years constantly opposing his own party Hmm while mixing with dubious groups and attending meetings with terrorist supporters and anti semites

Though there are many similarities never had a real job, privately educated and from a privileged background oh and misogynistic

I think most can now see through him they can see he is an agitator and not this peace loving man he and his pr claim him to be - his scruffy look is just typical of him and really could he have picked a smaller poppy Hmm

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2018 19:46

Are people perhaps confusing being a supporter of a united ireland with being a supporter of the IRA?

RedRoseReb · 14/11/2018 19:48

I don't think people are confused.

Despite the obfuscations.
