To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak

It's 11 hours after the event, but at the cenotaph amongst all of the black coats stood Jeremy Corbin in a blue anorak with hood flapping, is this really the best he could do?

YABU he is a man who cares deeply about his country and policy. He is a man who doesn’t care a jot about fashion or style. I bet he didn’t even think about it until the day. In any case hes wearing a dark coat which looks perfectly acceptable to me.

MyOtherProfile · 14/11/2018 06:59

And I heard he tortures puppies.

MyOtherProfile · 14/11/2018 07:00

Tony Blair was also there. He started a war which led to the death of hundreds of thousands of civilians. And it’s Jeremy Corbyn’s coat that makes you angry
This. Plus a load of Tories were there whose government handling of Brexit is bringing chaos to our country that the soldiers died for but it's the anorak that offends.

I thought he looked a bit scruffy. His hood looked like it was inside out. Everyone else looked so smart for the occasion.

JeremyCorbynsCoat · 14/11/2018 07:44

I am not an anorak I am a sensible coat

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 14/11/2018 07:48

JeremyCorbynsCoat how dare you show your face in here, hang your head and hood in the utter shame you have brought upon yourself.

popcornwizard · 14/11/2018 07:55

And now it's on the internet it must be true Shock

notaflyingmonkey · 14/11/2018 07:57

And he sells arms to the Saudi's so that they can bomb children in the Yemen. Oh no, hang on...

MyOtherProfile · 14/11/2018 07:59

Oh yes. I read it on mn so it must be true.

jwalkden · 14/11/2018 08:06

There is nothing wrong with Corbyns coat - but a lot of things wrong with peoples mindsets (IMO). Owen Jones gave a response to this which I am 100% in agreement with. Basically he said 'if you're screaming at a coat worn by a politician you don't like rather than remembering people slaughtered and maimed by war, you are so utterly irredeemably pathetic that I'm genuinely embarrassed for you' - I think he puts that very well! There is also another response which I agree with. Imagine what things would be like if people were as outraged about young people (or old people, or veterans for that matter) dying on our streets as they are about what coat Jeremy Corbyn is wearing. Corbyn is there - paying his respects - get a grip and stop having a pop at his coat for goodness sake!

Limensoda · 14/11/2018 08:19

Limensoda he has benefited from his start in life and all those things which he now so vocally objects to. His ‘for the many, not the few’ is an admirable objective but I’m afraid it does feel hypocritical when he himself is ‘the few’ however much he tries to disguise it

He had no control over his upbringing or what he benefited from. It may be exactly that he learned from and thought it wrong that others did not have those opportunities.
Unlike others from a similar background, he didn't adopt an 'I'm alright Jack' mentality. You find it hypocritical to want a better life for those who were massively worse off than you were?
I haven't seen him pretend his life was other than what it was.

purits · 14/11/2018 08:20

'if you're screaming at a coat worn by a politician ...
...it's because a politician (just the one politician) is wearing a coat screaming "look at meeeeeee!"

ChicagoLil · 14/11/2018 08:24

Was he the politician you slept with @BertrandRussell 🤣🤣😉

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2018 08:41

“Was he the politician you slept with @BertrandRussell

No- that’s not a secret because of the Act. That’s a secret because of “What the fuck was I THINKING!”

TheNavigator · 14/11/2018 08:44

...it's because a politician (just the one politician) is wearing a coat screaming "look at meeeeeee!"

Yup, no clothing is more extravagant, flamboyant and attention seeking than a dark coloured anorak on a rainy day. Have Vivienne Westwood and JP Gautier been alerted? Plainly they are missing a trick

BertrandRussell · 14/11/2018 08:44

Could you expand on this? In particular the “tries to disguise it” bit.

KissingInTheRain · 14/11/2018 08:55

Owen Jones gave a response to this...

Why didn’t you tell us earlier? If I’d known what Owen Jones had said, everything would have been completely different.

But now my eyes have been opened. I can see that poking fun at the gormless but thoroughly unpleasant Corbyn is just not on. Expecting some sense of occasion from him was clearly unjustified.

And thinking that it was OK to laugh at his anorak, and particularly what he would have looked like with the hood up, was obviously outrageous.

Mocking Saint Jeremy of Islington North has been ruled out by The Prophet Owen.

averythinline · 14/11/2018 08:57

It's a shame he had to make a political point about it.... because it is a deliberate decision to not look like the others there....it is not the same as people at their local services wearing practical coats....
That's the shame he is a politician with a team of advisors.... everything he does, says and wears is calculated ...( This is about all frnt line politicians not just him)
Maybe it was to just get him noticed for being there and wearing a poppy/singing hymns but being different...

derxa · 14/11/2018 09:10

Why didn’t you tell us earlier? If I’d known what Owen Jones had said, everything would have been completely different. Grin
I wonder where the coat is now?

BorisBogtrotter · 14/11/2018 09:15

"Mocking Saint Jeremy of Islington North has been ruled out by The Prophet Owen."

Not at all.

Faux outrage about stuff that doesn't matter shouldn't be on.

The way it went on Sunday was that

a) He wasn't wearing a poppy OUTRAGE ( he was so that stopped.)

b) He wasn't wearing black OUTRAGE ( except Major and Cameron also wore blue coats so that stopped too_)

c) It wasn't a wool coat OUTRAGE!

People were looking for something to be outraged about, its a non issue and shows those trying force the outrage as quite pathetic really.

KissingInTheRain · 14/11/2018 09:17

I’m not outraged by Corbyn’s posturing. I’m amused by it.

DappledThings · 14/11/2018 09:17

I'm amused by you thinking it's posturing

BorisBogtrotter · 14/11/2018 09:18

But you've taken wearing a coat to be posturing, not the fact that the man was due to attend several outdoor events in one day and might have dressed appropriately for all.
