To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak

It's 11 hours after the event, but at the cenotaph amongst all of the black coats stood Jeremy Corbin in a blue anorak with hood flapping, is this really the best he could do?

username198 Corbyn's against any war involving NATO. Not so vocal when it's the Russians in Chechnya and Ukraine or with Assad in Syria. Marina Hyde in the Guardian renamed Stop the War to Stop This Particular War.

And anyone who thinks he's too high-minded to care about what he wears, what other man in his 60s is still wearing a Lenin cap? He knew exactly what he was doing. In the pic posted above, it's not difficult to spot the Wally. He's the only one wearing a mac. And not one that looks like an overcoat, but with an anorak hood attached to the collar.

Everyone knows he'd never normally go anywhere near the Cenotaph. When he had to go to the Somme with May, 2 years ago, he missed the main ceremony to go to a different cemetery to make a point about honouring the Irish dead.

But at least this time the Leader of HM's Loyal Opposition managed to force himself to sing the national anthem. Baby steps.

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 10:37

He did it as a pose to be Michael Foot and get attention. He's not fit to wipe Michael Foot's boots.
I was prepared to suck up my misgivings and vote for Labour led by Foot ( I'm that old). Not this tosser.

Doubletrouble99 · 12/11/2018 10:39

He knew exactly what he was doing. We are all talking about it. He has a dark overcoat so he knew full well that his attire wouldn't be appreciated. It's just him being anti establishment and anti war which really isn't appreciated at the 100th anniversary of the armistice.

Jeremy Corbyn voted against military action in Syria...

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 12/11/2018 10:42

@crochetmonkey- by wearing a completely different, more casual style of coat and a miniscule poppy (on national tv and in a setting where he needs a visible symbol- I love the BL pins otherwise), so he stood out like a sore thumb. He's certainly well named, Jere-ME Corbyn.

And yes, SOMEONE should have had a word with him. Not necessarily his wife but someone should.

YouTheCat · 12/11/2018 10:43

We're all talking about it because some loons decided it was an issue.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 12/11/2018 10:45

A selection of opinons on twitter that sum it all up for me

To understand the motivation behind why writers at the Sun, Daily Mail & Express are attacking Corbyn so bitterly over his coat, all you need to remember is Corbyn promised to clamp down on wholesale tax avoidance, including that by right wing billionaire newspaper owners

Jeremy Corbyn demands an end to veterans being left homeless.
Jeremy Corbyn's coat has a hood.
Guess which the media highlights.

Blair: Afghanistan/Iraq, 635 UK military, 210,000 civilians dead.

Cameron: Libya/Syria, 1,500 civilians killed, £40 Billion of arms sold.

May: Yemen, 5,200 civilians killed, £3.5 Billion of arms to Saudi Arabia.

Corbyn: Voted against all of the above

"Man wears weather appropriate coat to outdoor event shocker"

Did nobody object to May wearing knee high boots to lay a wreath in Mons? No one notice they were just like the Nazi uniform ones?

No, because it would be moronic to criticise someone's fashion choice when they're doing something respectful. In fact to do so, makes you bloody disrespectful of the war dead.

Jaxhog · 12/11/2018 10:56

It isn't small minded to criticise him. He is demonstrating his lack of respect by deliberately not wearing a smart coat. A coat he could certainly afford.

Of course a metal poppy will last longer. But a paper poppy shows respect and that you have actually donated something.

It is a shame that so many people do nothing. But at least they aren't hypocrites in pretending to support it while publicly demonstrating their lack of respect.

JacquesHammer · 12/11/2018 10:58

How does a metal pin badge that costs more than a paper one show you haven't donated?!

I have a metal one I wear every year, I always chuck some money in the collecting boxes but never wear a paper one.

Potato2242 · 12/11/2018 11:03

Does it actually matter. It was raining. It was a practical coat he wore to remember the dead, not to make a fashion statement at some gala ball. Ffs calm down

backaftera2yearbreak · 12/11/2018 11:04

Man wears weather appropriate coat shocker.

Ffs. Talk about not focusing on the actual fucking point of the day!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 12/11/2018 11:04

We're talking about it because standards and dress codes still apply and evidently still matter to people.

I'm no Corbyn fan but I've had no issue with what he wore in the past to the cenotaph. It didn't rain yesterday, he has a wool coat and had ample time to get it out & dust it off.

'Jeremy Corbyn voted against military action in Syria' ... Of course, he did. He always does. He was also against taking action in Sierra Leone and Kosovo.

But where were the Stop the War demonstrations outside the Russian embassy about Groszny or the shooting down of the Dutch airliner? Nothing about Aleppo or the bombing of the UN convoy. Caroline Lucas resigned from STW over its partisan attitude and failure to condemn the Paris terrorist attacks.

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 11:06

Was it raining in Central London? Didn't look like it.
But hey, he got an opportunity to stir things up and look cool so that's great!
Can he get on with his actual job now because he seems to find that tricky to do.
Tosspot.

Growingboys · 12/11/2018 11:11

He is a dreadful man

Username198 · 12/11/2018 11:16

He didn't oppose Sierra Leone and what Dutch aeroplane?

Limensoda · 12/11/2018 11:24

What a lot of shallow people there are on mumsnet!
Moaning about a bloody coat and being impressed by the smart clothes of politicians who quite happily send soldiers to war and supply arms to murderous regimes.
The sight of those people pretending to give a fuck make me sick.

Chocolala · 12/11/2018 11:26

Bullshit. I didn’t wear my metal pin at all this year, nor did DH, but I bet we’ve donated far more than the majority who pinned on their bits of plastic and paper. Wearing a one use bit of plastic (and they are - most fail to survive the day let alone be available for reuse next year) does not automatically show someone to be respectful or charitable.

Hubbleisback · 12/11/2018 11:29

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but the vociferous and rude language being used here and the sheer intolerance of other people is not appropriate for Remembrance Day.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 12/11/2018 11:38

@Jaxhog. How does a metal poppy mean he hasn't donated. I have a metal poppy. In fact I have quite a few. All of them are dated some are just a poppy others are a poppy with something else significant to me such as a local historuc building ect. I donate every year and wear the current year but the others are a nice keepsake. The Queen had a rather large poppy brooch thing on. Do I think she got out her purse and chucked in a few quid more than anyone else. No I dont.

bellinisurge · 12/11/2018 11:44

@Limensoda . Not impressed by fancy coats. Dad was a WWII veteran.
Doesn't hurt to stay below the radar and just show respect without making it all about you and your coat.
I genuinely think Michael Foot neither realised nor much cared (I was around then). Corbyn knew full well , as Trump does, that we end up talking about the stupid attention grabbing thing he has done rather than what we need to talk about.
Yes, we get it, JC, you don't like war. You're such a webel. I'm so impressed.

Thymeout · 12/11/2018 11:58

Username198 Apologies. It was a Malaysian airliner - MH17- 283 killed, mainly Dutch and Australian, shot down by Russian rockets in Ukraine. It was the Dutch and the Australians who have done most to investigate the crash.

Corbyn's opposition to Sierra Leone is a grey area. He said he'd have to think about it and then April of this year finally decided it was probably OK. He was most certainly against intervening in the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo. He tabled motions condemning the UN for agreeing to intervention.

Whatever. I trust him about as far as I could throw him on foreign policy. If I lived in one of the Baltic states, I would be seriously worried if he became PM. Like Trump, he's already cast doubt on the NATO obligation to defend member states under attack. Plenty of video evidence on his views on NATO.

JellyBaby666 · 12/11/2018 11:58

Dad was in the military, as is my boyfriend. Couldn't have given a monkeys about his coat, he showed up, was respectful and thats all I care about. The service is about honouring the fallen and serving soldiers, not what flipping coat the Leader of the Opposition wears!

cdtaylornats · 12/11/2018 11:59

Easy to tell if he donated check his expenses
