To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak

It's 11 hours after the event, but at the cenotaph amongst all of the black coats stood Jeremy Corbin in a blue anorak with hood flapping, is this really the best he could do?

I do like Jeremey Corben and I think the main thing is that he attended and was respectful. However he did stand out in that coat and he definitely could have afforded a decent smart one like absolutely everyone else was wearing. Its not like hes low waged or on benefits etc, hes in a well paid job.

I'm surprised his wife didn't take him out to get one or say something to him.

Seeline · 12/11/2018 09:41

Hisaishi

If he didn't know what he was doing he was being really disrespectful. He has the correct attire - this is him in 2016.

To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak
Raglansleeve · 12/11/2018 09:42

OYBBK, May has been in France/Belgium this week - she attended ceremonies there, laying wreaths on the graves of the first and last British soldiers killed in WWI. I think it was entirely appropriate that she was at the cenotaph on Sunday to commemorate British war dead where the commemoration has been held for decades.

I do wonder at Corbyn - this happens every year. You'd think by now he'd know that a dishevelled appearance causes comment and just buy a smart black coat. Or maybe he's making a point........

BTW, Michael Foot's 'donkey jacket' wasn't. It was smart expensive short overcoat.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 12/11/2018 09:43

AT least he's got a decade's long history of anti war campagning unlike the other hypocrites there who proclaim to "remember them" but happily send thousands to their deaths.
But at least they wore the correct colour coat and size of poppy so that's all ok.

Hisaishi · 12/11/2018 09:44

"I'm surprised his wife didn't take him out to get one or say something to him." - how the hell is his wife responsible? I don't tell my husband what to wear, he's an adult.

raglan you know, maybe he's just past the point of caring about petty shit like this? Maybe he realises that what he wears doesn't matter and he doesn't care to listen to the papers and assorted people banging on about pointless crap.

Does he start/support wars? No. So he's doing about 5 million times better than many politicians. Surely not starting wars is pretty much the best way to pay your respects to the millions who died?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/11/2018 09:45

He can look very smart when he wants to. He chose not to, I can only come to the conclusion that he didn’t think the event was worth it.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 12/11/2018 09:45

this is him in 2016.

So did he "know what he was doing" in 2016 or not?
Perhaps he wore a raincoat yesterday because rain was forecast but not in 2016 because it wasn't.

Hisaishi · 12/11/2018 09:48

chardonnay do you never go to things wearing slightly less smart things than you wore a different time?

One wedding you wear a gorgeous dress, the next wedding you wear a less gorgeous dress, therefore you care less about the second wedding?

What a wild fantasy life some of you lead, I hope you scrutinise your own decisions as much as everyone else's.

hackmum · 12/11/2018 09:51

It's quite disrespectful not to spell Corbyn's name correctly. In my humble opinion.

Tinkobell · 12/11/2018 09:53

I'm glad JC doesn't waste money on stupid image consultants like so many others do. He does look approachable.....and the rain coat looks nice and clean. The others look funerally and I bet they smell of mothballs. 😁

BeyondVicious · 12/11/2018 09:53

I was expecting a regatta coat based on the comments, he looks perfectly fine to me.

And I don't like the man, so I'm not biased Grin

Lana1234 · 12/11/2018 09:56

No, a navy blue anorak over a suit and tie at the cenotaph didn’t bother me personally. My dad (ex green jacket) marched in Liverpool town yesterday with a not so different coat over his suit, guess he was a scruff too? Noted. There’s a lot to be angry about right now (homeless veterans, Yemen crisis, Trump) this isn’t it

YouTheCat · 12/11/2018 09:57

Cameron's coat is navy.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 12/11/2018 09:57

I've got no problem with how anyone chooses to celebrate remembrance for themselves but he was at a national level event on behalf of his voters. A formal remembrance event. With a dress code.

And the fact that he did seem so purposefully attention seeking suggests to me that he has too much time on his no doubt grubby-nailed hands to think about this sort of thing, as opposed to having more important things to worry about.

JacquesHammer · 12/11/2018 09:58

He has the correct attire - this is him in 2016

See the thing about weather, is it’s ever-changing. Maybe in 2016 rain wasn’t forecast. Maybe yesterday he was full of cold and wanted to keep dry.

What a load of nonsense over nothing. Man wears dark coat to service. Nothing in any way shocking.

I'm surprised his wife didn't take him out to get one or say something to him

Yes of course there had to be a woman at fault somewhere 🙄

Genevieva · 12/11/2018 09:58

I know Corbyn has form for not singing the national anthem etc, but honestly, his waterproof coat did not worry me one bit. IT would have been better in proper black, as it is still a day of mourning.

Like a lot of families in this country, mine was completely decimated by both world wars, particularly on my Dad's side - the generations we just the right age. Consequently he was the only child born into his generation - no siblings and no cousins and, on his Dad's side, no second cousins either. A family that had been large before WW1 was reduced to just him and his Mum. It is a very emotional time for him, even in his old age.

This year an old friend of mine told me she refuses to wear a poppy because of the evils of the British Empire. She refused to acknowledge that Remembrance Sunday is about ordinary people from every walk of life, not about politicians. I surprised myself by being really quite upset by her attitude. It was such a strange experience because I am too young for this to be my grief. Or at least, I thought I was.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/11/2018 09:59

If course I do, Hidaishi.

But I dress according to the occasion, and very few occasions are more formal than laying a wreath at the Centotaph to mark the 100th Aniversary of the Great War.

crochetmonkey74 · 12/11/2018 09:59

And the fact that he did seem so purposefully attention seeking

by standing quietly in a dark waterproof coat???????

twofingerstoEverything · 12/11/2018 10:00

Seriously? Who gives a fuck? Corbyn is a wanker, IMO, but who cares what bloody coat he wore? There are much, much bigger things this country should be concerned about - Universal Credit, massive wealth inequality, the state of the NHS, the shambles that is Brexit, but OP is whinging about a coat.
Little Britain at its worst.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/11/2018 10:02

dress correctly - However that might be.

But you're right.

I'll send off a strongly worded letter to Parliament, insisting that he is dressed as a poppy next year, and that he also wears a (smart) black coat over the enormous petals.

Fine feathers don't always indicate fine birds.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/11/2018 10:05

I'm surprised his wife didn't take him out to get one or say something to him

By the time she'd finished getting him to spit on a hanky so she could give his face a scrub before he ran out of the house with a football tucked under his arm, I expect it slipped her mind . . .

MiniCooperLover · 12/11/2018 10:06

It's a coat ... a fucking coat. If that's your biggest issue you need to get a life ...

Username198 · 12/11/2018 10:10

2 voting records on the Iraq war, guess which is May and which is Corbyn:

Consistently voted against the Iraq war
0 votes for, 6 votes against, between 2002–2003

Consistently voted for the Iraq war
5 votes for, 0 votes against, 1 absence, between 2002–2003

Youdontknowwhatyouthinkyoudo · 12/11/2018 10:14

Sir John Major also wore a blue coat. Its darker but it's not black.

As did Cameron.

feathermucker · 12/11/2018 10:15

It doesn't matter.

He'd get criticised for something whatever he wore.
