To still be cross at Jeremy Corbin's anorak

It's 11 hours after the event, but at the cenotaph amongst all of the black coats stood Jeremy Corbin in a blue anorak with hood flapping, is this really the best he could do?

I don't think people are ridiculing him, they are contemptuous of his faux protest.

He's currently earning a solid six figure salary and has been employed as a politician on not much less since the early 80s.

He's apparently a clever man, so he knows how he would be expected to dress. He knows how his peers would dress. That he chose not to follow convention speaks volumes. His coat was his way of sticking two fingers up to the establishment.

Either that or he was actually trying to align himself with the working classes by dressing how he imagines they might in which case he's even more of a contemptuous fool.

HakunaRattatas · 12/11/2018 00:21

What an unpleasant thread full of smug people on both sides

Miscible · 12/11/2018 00:21

What's more - the hood was sticking out!

Oh, the horror! How will we ever recover from it?

flossietoot · 12/11/2018 00:21

Two points- he wasn’t hugely inappropriately dressed- he had in a suit but as it was wet had a navy rain coat on.

Secondly- he has worn something in keeping with his own outlook on life. He has always attempted to stay true to himself and has never wanted to be seen as the same as other more obvious establishment figures. He wasn’t deliberately disrespectful today- he just has continued to be as he always has been. If you don’t like this and think it is more important to look the part then simply ignore his policies and opinions and vote for someone else.

Hubbleisback · 12/11/2018 00:23

Couldn't help but notice the rather strange ceremonial headgear worn by many of the military - not judging, just saying.

Username198 · 12/11/2018 00:23

Mankini, Raincoat... that's the same.

Miscible · 12/11/2018 00:23

I was infinitely more offended by seeing Cameron's "Look at me pretending to be ever so serious" face. This is the man who single-handedly did his best to send the country that the fallen fought for straight down the drain. He really should be hiding himself away out of shame.

Ilovemypantry · 12/11/2018 00:24

TheFatberg
If you didn’t even bother to watch the procession on TV today and didn’t wear a poppy (did you observe the 2 minutes silence?) then why are you even commenting? Sounds like you are as disrespectful as Corbyn.

Rachelover40 · 12/11/2018 00:26

I thought he looked very nice.

Username198 · 12/11/2018 00:26

In my humble opinion the best way to honour those who died in any war isn't by wearing black or a posh coat but is to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Out of the politicians there today which one would you trust with that?

Hubbleisback · 12/11/2018 00:28

Absolutely User198.

PigletJohn · 12/11/2018 00:29

Theresa wasn't wearing her leopard-print kitten heels, and that's because she is making a total mess of Brexit, and all the Conservatives hate her.

Her shoes demonstrate that she isn't fit to govern the country.

Ilovemypantry · 12/11/2018 00:29

“Oh the horror! How will we ever recover from it?”

We will recover from it, I doubt he will though.

Miscible · 12/11/2018 00:34

Thousands of people have bought those small poppy badges and thereby donated money to the British Legion. Are they all being disrespectful?

My father fought and was wounded in the second World War. His brother was killed in the Battle of Britain. He thought the fuss over Michael Foot was utterly ridiculous, and I'm quite sure he would say the same about this. I think he was much better qualified to judge than the people coming up with all the false indignation on this thread.

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/11/2018 00:42

How very shallow OP. He wore a sensible coat so he could fo and talk to the ex servicemen/women after the parade rather than attend a pompous meet and greet - followed by a remembrance in his own constituency.

If only the only thing we had to worry about was a raincoat
Oh and his poppy was metal. Which means it is not plastic.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 12/11/2018 01:07

I wear a little pin like Jezza's, precisely because it's harder-wearing than a paper poppy. I know quite a few people who have them, including service members & veterans. Would I wear it if I had a role in Remembrance Sunday events? No, I'd wear something bigger because it HAS to be visible. It is the standard mark of remembrance at these events and should be seen. I'm not suggesting he needs a glittery brooch or a five flower arrangement like the Queen, but common sense should tell him or one of his flunkies that a tiny pin like that doesn't suit the purpose here. The purpose being solemn remembrance on behalf of others, not him standing out as the superannuated sulky teenage rebel.

The coat was not appropriate to an attendee of his level. He stood out for all the wrong reasons and it's not that hard to buy a smart wool coat. I asked non military DP, his ex para DF, my ex Army DF and a dear friend in the Navy. They all felt he looked scruffy and mentioned that he's not there for himself but as a representative and thus was there in the image of those who vote for him. That explains a lot Hmm. Appearance still matters - better to look too smart than scruffy.

Hubbleisback · 12/11/2018 01:11

Those represented by Trump in his black coat must be pleased. Wink

Alltheprettyseahorses · 12/11/2018 07:17

Of course this is all a ploy by the media so everyone is talking about Jeremy Corbyn's coat rather than the shambles the Tories are making of well just about everything

So the media photoshopped Jezza into a scruffy anorak then did they? Hmm

All this talk of lions and Corbyn's substance is a joke. He has NEVER achieved a single thing in well over 40 years in politics and is all but invisible in his current role. The Corbyn project has failed. Time for Labour to move on, if it can - I for one wouldn't be able to vote for them again after the catastrophic lack of judgement it's shown and the way it's become some kind of 4th rate UKIP.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 12/11/2018 07:33

If he really doesn’t want to be there, he should have the courage of his convictions and not go, not turn up like a truculent teenager. The man’s a total idiot.

Missillusioned · 12/11/2018 07:36

Irrespective of what you think of Corbyn's outfit, last year he did wear a black wool style coat which demonstrates that a) he has one and b) he is aware of what is appropriate for the ceremony.
So the choice to wear a raincoat was a choice, not an oversight.

Worriedandanxiousmama · 12/11/2018 07:38

I’m no supporter of Corbyn (or May for that matter), but I simply don’t care what he wore. It wasn’t like he wore a bright yellow coat. I’m far more concerned by politicians’ behaviours than what they wear. Too many hypocrites there yesterday. He’s not the only one.

DappledThings · 12/11/2018 07:56

Why does he need to be wearing a poppy at all? He's carrying a massive wreath of them.

Mrstwiddle · 12/11/2018 07:57

Every time I see or listen to him I’m reminded of a morose know it all teenager. It’s not about the colour of the jacket, it’s the fact that he’s wearing an anorak to a huge occasion...he thinks it’s all beneath him is the impression I get.

Puggles123 · 12/11/2018 08:04

He should have worn something smarter, it definitely gave an air of I have to be here but I really don’t want to be. The hood as well, was he really planning on putting that up if it rained? Fair enough he probably would have rather attended something low key in his constituency with the community he represents (he doesn’t seem keen on the big events); but he was there as a politician, and the way he was holding the wreath was a bit I can’t be arsed.

brizzledrizzle · 12/11/2018 08:07

Do you think the veterans cared?
