To insist it's ROAST BEEF?

My Sister was sitting on the sofa this morning with DS2 who had bare feet. She then started to do 'this little piggy' on his toes. All was as it should be until DH exclaimed at the end ' it's bread and butter!' in reference to the third toe. Sister looked at him as if he was mad. Who is right?

I really fancy some roast beef for dinner

ILoveAutum · 12/11/2018 14:59

Brought up with Roast Beef - SE England.

But I say carrots/apples/berries...the variation is part of the enjoyment of it now.

It’s ‘only’ a nursery rhyme but as a vegetarian it felt wrong saying they/their toes had had Roast Beef 🤣

As for ‘market’ when it dawned on me u was really sad, but then decided that no, MY little piggies were skipping if to do some shopping with their little baskets. END OF 😠

😊

Mid-forties, Stab City, roast beef.

drspouse · 12/11/2018 15:12

I only realised a few months ago that this line did not mean the piggy was going shopping....

WHAT!
You've shattered my childhood now.
This book has "This little piggy went to England" but we read it as "London".

In our family we say roast pork but perhaps that's a little sadistic

alligatorsmile · 12/11/2018 15:45

I've found it's really hard to make the rhyme scan AND meet with my principles:

This little piggy belonged to a vegan who nonetheless objected to notions of "ownership" of one sentient being over another and thus simply provided an area of shelter and adequate nutrition along with space to run around and a good number of other pigs as they are sociable animals,
This little piggy stayed at home
This little piggy had nut roast
And this little piggy also had nut roast
And this little piggy was silent because it wasn't distressed at all, being nurtured in a secure environment where it was allowed to bond with its parent and express natural behaviour.

stealthsquiggle · 12/11/2018 17:25

Definitely roast beef - SE England but I have never heard anything else!

And yes pigs would eat roast beef, without question or hesitation

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 12/11/2018 17:40

It’s defjnitely roast beef!

TheWiseWomansFear · 12/11/2018 17:43

DP said meatballs until I told him it was roast beef!

arghhelpme · 12/11/2018 17:44

Roast pork in this house Grin

Normally roast beef though. Have never heard of that rhyme with bread and butter

Italiangreyhound · 12/11/2018 17:45

Roast beef.

That bread and butter could turn into a bacon sandwich and NO little pig wants that!

user1493997854 · 12/11/2018 17:46

A pig ate your car!?! You can't just leave it at that ! PMSL

littlemisscomper · 12/11/2018 17:46

I've never heard anything other than 'roast beef'? Although as a vegetarian myself I often substitute that for 'chocolate cake'.

DwangelaForever · 12/11/2018 17:51

They say roast beef in Northern Ireland!

cabingirl · 12/11/2018 17:53

Roast Beef or Sugar Cake in my family

LottieLou192 · 12/11/2018 17:55

Definitely roast beef...........perhaps she’s vegetarian!

BroomstickOfLove · 12/11/2018 17:55

Roast beef. I'm from Northern Ireland.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 12/11/2018 17:56

He wasn't shopping???? Sad

Mo1970 · 12/11/2018 17:59

I always thought it was Piggy going shopping. Ruined now.....

holey · 12/11/2018 18:05

Roast beef (south-east England).

And the pig was shopping. Standing upright on hind legs like a person (Porky Pig style) with a wicker basket over one arm. I'm 45. I refuse to accept he wasn't shopping.

sheldonesque · 12/11/2018 18:12

Quinoa. funning

To go with his roast beef Grin

Alilwolf · 12/11/2018 18:15

Well it does start off with the fattest piggy. Just saying. Was always happy so see that the tiniest piggy was the cleverest and legged it. That's what my Dad used to say doing it on my toes 'and this little piggy was the cleverest piggy so he ran all the way home'.

MulticolourMophead · 12/11/2018 18:16

It's Roast Beef.

Alilwolf · 12/11/2018 18:17

But yes, roast beef here too in bucks

UsedBySomebodyAlready · 12/11/2018 18:18

ALL the books had him holding a basket didn't they.
I mean, why would he need a basket if he was off to be slaughtered?

None of it makes any sense....
