My Sister was sitting on the sofa this morning with DS2 who had bare feet. She then started to do 'this little piggy' on his toes. All was as it should be until DH exclaimed at the end ' it's bread and butter!' in reference to the third toe. Sister looked at him as if he was mad. Who is right?

Roast beef. But bread and butter is funnierGrin

EwItsAHooman · 11/11/2018 14:52

"a pig ate my car once"

What?!

Pigs will eat anything they can get their snouts on.

This little piggy went to market

I only realised a few months ago that this line did not mean the piggy was going shopping....

cheesemongery · 11/11/2018 14:53

This little piggy had roast beef,

this little piggy had none.

This little piggy cried weee weee weeeee all the way home.

YANBU.

Roast beef

Sirzy · 11/11/2018 14:55

I can’t even figure how bread and butter would fit into the rhyme!

senua · 11/11/2018 14:55

Eh? 'Bread and butter' doesn't scan.

Shockaholic · 11/11/2018 14:55

Nope it's not "always" bread and butter in Ireland. I'm Irish still living in Ireland, have family/in laws from or living in all parts of Ireland (Republic of Ireland that is) and I have never heard it with bread and butter, always roast beef.

WheelchairWoes · 11/11/2018 14:57

Roast Beef here

AdaColeman · 11/11/2018 14:58

Roast beef here.

BitOfFun · 11/11/2018 14:58

It's true- pigs will eat anything. It was a crappy old wreck of a car, but it looked a lot worse after three weeks parked up in a field that pigs grazed in Grin

Marnimajor · 11/11/2018 14:59

If you’re from a traditionally poorer area it’s ‘jam and bread’

TeenTimesTwo · 11/11/2018 15:00

roast beef (home counties)

Jesterstolehisthornycrown1 · 11/11/2018 15:00

Irish too and it's always been roast beef.

vampirethriller · 11/11/2018 15:01

Roast beef. (A pig once ate my socks.)

theymademejoin · 11/11/2018 15:01

@Shockaholic - really? You must be posh, having roast beef 😁

I've only ever heard roast beef on English TV shows or similar. Mind you, I'm old so maybe it's changed over the years.

Goneback2school · 11/11/2018 15:04

I'm in Ireland and it's always been bread and jam.

Serialweightwatcher · 11/11/2018 15:04

Always been roast beef - even if someone's a vegetarian it shouldn't be altered Grin

TheWickedWitchofWestYorkshire · 11/11/2018 15:06

This little piggy went to market (to be sold, probably for slaughter)
This little piggy stayed home (either to kept for breeding or because it wasn't big enough to be slaughtered)
This little piggy had roast beef (they used to feed pigs anything, incl the leftover meat from their meals, probably to fatten it up)
This little piggy had none (animals ready for slaughter aren't fed much; I think it's to make their digestive tract clear so it doesn't dirty the meat)
This little piggy went, "Wee, wee, wee, wee!" all the way home! (it escaped from market and ran off. I think the weewee noise is the squealing noise that they make when distressed)

happypoobum · 11/11/2018 15:06

Of course it;s bloody roast beef!!

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/11/2018 15:07

Bread and butter. I'm from NI.

GabsAlot · 11/11/2018 15:07

roast beef its a bloody song not a dietary requiremewnt

Shockaholic · 11/11/2018 15:08

@theymademejoin, no not posh! And family wouldn't be either. Not young either,mid-late 30s. Although my in laws do say " round and round the garden, like a teddy bear, one step two step and tickle you under your arm"...which is obviously wrong as that doesn't rhyme and it's meant to be "tickly (or tickle you..) under there"

SoupDragon · 11/11/2018 15:08

Definitely roast beef when I was growing up. When DD was at toddler group they changed it to "a sandwich" though, presumably to be kind to vegetarians.

AviatorShades · 11/11/2018 15:09
