..or is my friend a cake wanker?

'It was my friend's 30th birthday party yesterday; a surprise that I helped organise. I spent all morning making a lovely cake for the party. According to the recipe it served 32 people.
Took the cake to the pub, lit the candles, sang happy birthday etc etc, was all very nice.

When we left the pub, she asked my husband to drop the cake back at her house. When I said ‘don’t you want to take it to the restaurant so everyone can have a piece’ she said ‘no, I want to have as much of it as possible’, and that was that.

Am I being petty, or is that really bloody weird?! Our other friends were also a little confused as to what had happened to the cake. Cake is for sharing!

Cake only ever ends in disaster, people getting obese and rotting teeth. I knew no good would come of it Op and I think you have realised this now!

diddl · 11/11/2018 15:59

Why did you take it to the pub-did you expect it to be cut & eaten then-before a meal?

TeddybearBaby · 11/11/2018 16:13

I can’t stop thinking about cake now and this is the one I want!! Baileys chocolate ganache 😅😋

How can one woman and her partner finish a cake made for 32 people on their own? I eat a hell of a lot (especially cake) but even I couldn't be that greedy!

The whole cake? That is hilarious 😂
Tbf when it's my birthday I usually try to ensure there is a couple of slices left over for me to enjoy later but the whole bloody cake? Naaa

My boss got a promotion into another office last year, I’d been working in this office a few months and discovered they do buffet day for things like this (in fact they do buffet day for any sort of imaginable reason but that’s another story Grin) I said I would make a cake. Baked a lovely cake, iced it and wrote good luck [bosses name] on it. Bought it in with a nice big knife to cut it up and share out at buffet time. She took it home all boxed up and nobody got a piece. I was a bit surprised, and I think everyone else was a little gutted they didn’t get a piece of cake.

A few things:

It was a small party of 6

We ended up in the pub; the original plan was to go back to someone’s house for cake and Prosecco

My DH and child weren’t sure if they were coming to the restaurant, and had to join us at the pub from home, so we sang happy birthday there because the cake was a surprise

Very tight fisted of her, and very poor etiquette! Of COURSE you share your cake with the guests.

How rude!

if you wanted it at the restaurent, you could have taken it to the restaurent

NoSpend19 · 11/11/2018 17:02

Was she embarrassed at the thought of taking a cake to the restaurant. I would have been.

PhilomenaButterfly · 11/11/2018 17:04

Fatasfook I did for DD's birthday. They also gave her a slice of their birthday pie for free.

eddielizzard · 11/11/2018 17:13

Your friend is a cake wanker.

TheFaerieQueene · 11/11/2018 17:15

She wouldn’t have any issues from me. I don’t like cake. 😝

LifeImplosionImminent · 11/11/2018 17:21

I was about to jump in with the chorus of "how rude" comments but if it was for the party it should have been cut up there and then also she may not have wanted to take it the restaurant because she wasn't 10 years old.

If it was me though I wouldn't have taken the whole lot but I would have made sure I got some first then told people to help themselves Grin Cake

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 11/11/2018 17:25

Why didn't you take the cake to the restaurant and give it to her there?

Whipsmart · 11/11/2018 17:35

I'm just trying to picture a cake that would serve 32 people Shock was it a big flat sheet cake or a ginormous round one?!

llangennith · 11/11/2018 17:36

IKEA cakes serve 32Smile

LittleBookofCalm · 11/11/2018 18:09

Perhaps she was embarrassed, I would have been

greendale17 · 11/11/2018 19:35

^This. What a skank

freshfoodpeople · 12/11/2018 05:36

She's greedy, rude and selfish.

That's the last time I'd ever do something for her.

Alfie190 · 12/11/2018 05:43

The cake should have been shared, no doubt about that.

But there are things I don't really get. Why did you make a cake for 32 if the party was of six? Why was a cake brought to the pub for singing and was then (supposed) to be trsnsferred to the restaurant as well? Was there to be more singing there?
