..or is my friend a cake wanker?

'It was my friend's 30th birthday party yesterday; a surprise that I helped organise. I spent all morning making a lovely cake for the party. According to the recipe it served 32 people.
Took the cake to the pub, lit the candles, sang happy birthday etc etc, was all very nice.

When we left the pub, she asked my husband to drop the cake back at her house. When I said ‘don’t you want to take it to the restaurant so everyone can have a piece’ she said ‘no, I want to have as much of it as possible’, and that was that.

Am I being petty, or is that really bloody weird?! Our other friends were also a little confused as to what had happened to the cake. Cake is for sharing!

Greedy!

Serialweightwatcher · 11/11/2018 13:19

I don't think that's fair on you or everyone else - she's selfish and greedy and I wouldn't make her a cake ever again

Maelstrop · 11/11/2018 13:19

Serves 32 in my book=serves 16 so not too massive, but yes, cake is for sharing. Did you pay for everything for the cake?

Marioki · 11/11/2018 13:21

Did you buy here a gift as well? If so then I think she'd being a tad unreasonable, if the cake was the gift then she can do what she likes with it.

Orchiddingme · 11/11/2018 13:21

Totally bizarre to light candles, sing then remove the cake! Cake is indeed for sharing.

LiquoricePickle · 11/11/2018 13:23

Super odd behaviour. Of course she should have shared.

Billben · 11/11/2018 13:26

Greed and gluttony. 🙄

Allthewaves · 11/11/2018 13:28

If your cakes are amazing - yep I'd want to hog it lol

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 11/11/2018 13:29

Eh! I don’t blame her, I have a lovely friend that makes amazing cakes for gifts for many occasions in my life and I have never actually got to have a piece due to guests at said occasions eating the lot.

Chunkymonkey123 · 11/11/2018 13:29

That’s so rude of her as you clearly made it for the party

llangennith · 11/11/2018 13:32

Of course you can take a birthday cake to a restaurant! She's very greedy and selfish and she's going to eat 32 slices of cake herselfShock

sconebonjovi · 11/11/2018 13:32

Definitely not her present!

I should have perhaps provided more context, but didn't want it to be too identifying, and didn't want to ramble.

It's just her and her partner at home, so defs not sharing it with family.

She also has form for being rude!

What a greedy pig. I hope she gets fat.

Ofcourse cake is meant for sharing.

Birdsgottafly · 11/11/2018 13:34

You should have left it to bring out at the restaurant.

Was she having family round the next day and thought she have it then?

FrumpyTrumpy · 11/11/2018 13:40

Maybe she was embarrassed to bring her own cake to the pub?

Hellywelly10 · 11/11/2018 13:46

I wouldnt be baking for her again.

Squidgee · 11/11/2018 13:47

Did you husband comply?

I'd have told her no, that it was for everyone to share and taken it on to the restaurant.

Binglebong · 11/11/2018 13:48

All these people saying one person can't eat a 32 slice cake - amateurs!Grin

Lovemusic33 · 11/11/2018 13:50

I’m sure I could manage to eat a 32 slice cake Grin

She was being a greedy cow though.

tierraJ · 11/11/2018 13:52

Maybe she just couldn't help herself as your cake looked too delicious!!

Lucked · 11/11/2018 13:53

Well those square cut pieces of cake you get at a wedding are about a third of the size of a piece of cake you might get at a cafe so it might be more like 10 large slices which is only two each for a family of five.

Completely possible.

SaucyJack · 11/11/2018 13:55

Greedy and grabby. Technically it wasn’t actually her cake to take if that wasn’t her birthday present.

Your husband should’ve said no.

JanetLovesJason · 11/11/2018 13:56

Only person I’ve ever known do similar turned out to be deeply selfish and very damaging to others. So, not a good sign tbh.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/11/2018 13:57

That’s incredibly rude. Didn’t the people at the pub expect a piece of cake? If she didn’t want to share she shouldn’t have been ok to be sung happy birthday.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/11/2018 13:58

Bit rude and greedy but it was her cake I guess 🤷‍♀️
