To think if Andrew had been caught cheating instead of Fergie...

...they would have worked it out and still be married?

Speculation about them remarrying has been in the papers again today. I don’t see it happening - but I can’t help thinking they sacrificed their marriage for the public image of the Royal Family. A Royal wife couldn’t be seen to get away with infidelity, even if the marriage was salvageable. However, had Andrew been papped sucking some tart’s toes instead of vice versa, I reckon Fergie would have been forced down the ‘dignified silence’ route - and perhaps the marriage would have survived as a result.

Obviously I know nothing about them personally, and the press picture could be very different to the reality. But I find it interesting to wonder if Fergie paid the price for being a woman and the ‘incomer’ - and indeed, if Andrew also effectively paid the price for his position and public image, whereas a layman might have worked to forgive his wife.

If Andrew is gay he would have been discharged from the Navy if it came out, It only became legal to be gay in the forces in 2000.

As for Fegie not seening her girls at Xmas, I thought she got to stray in a cottageon the estate. She wasn't welcome at the family meal but I'm sure she could see her children.

If Anne were a lesbian I doubt she'd hide it. She'd have shacked up with a hearty tweeds and brogues dame by now and they'd run a riding school on the side!

Philip is trans though. That's why we don't see him so often these days. He's only allowed out depending on whether he feels like wearing a suit and trousers - that's why they say "if he feels like it on the day". Ie whether it's a trouser or a dress day.

Andrew was very good looking in his day.
I thought for a divorced couple said to be very close they didn't appear very close at their daughter's wedding.
It was as if they purposely kept their distance.
It would explain a lot if he was gay/ bisexual.
Fergie could have a lot on him. Best keep her sweet.
Wasn't his grand uncle, the Duke of Kent ( or Gloucester).
I didn't like him mixed up in that sordid Epstein business.
Some choices he has made re friends/ business associates have not been wise.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 10:51

He was certainly the best-looking of the Queen's sons but good looks don't last long in that family - just look at poor Prince William!

beanaseireann · 11/11/2018 11:02

A bit of Regaine and William would be back to his best.

Hadenoughofallthis · 11/11/2018 11:39

Andrew has always been the Queen’s favourite child apparently.

I keep reading this, and it's beyond ridiculous. What mother on this planet, particularly the Queen ffs, ever even thought this, let alone came out and verbalised it. It's just bollocks.

I imagine he was highly eligiable in his yoynger days , not unattractive and second in line rp throne , i can understand why he would have a lot of female attention, if he is gay it would have caused a huge scandal if he had come out as a young man .

AamdC · 11/11/2018 12:36

I still think even in these enlightened times it would be a huge deal if a senior membrer of the royal family was Gay , i suppose it would all be to do with succession to the throne , I really cant see it being easy if say Wulliam or Harry had been gay , one of the less prominant cousins they may have been allowed to lead a quiet discreet life but not the Heir and spare(although Harry isnt spare anymore)

Re Andrew being the Queens favourite, I think it's not so much he's her favourite as she spent Charles and Anne's childhood travelling around and not really with them so Andrew and Edward were her second chance so maybe she just enjoyed it more and was more prepared to refuse to be apart from them.

UniversalAunt · 11/11/2018 16:46

Googled Lord Porterhouse & got loads of Porterhouse Blue listings.

One of the few books to have me laughing out loud on the tube.

And as she wasn’t Queen when Charles and Anne were born she probably had less of a say in their early upbringing.

OlennasWimple · 12/11/2018 14:24

I'd hazard a guess that there won't ever be any formal confirmation of Andrew's bisexuality a) because why would there be; and b) it would have to wait until after the Queen and Price Philip are long gone in any case

TattiusTeddius · 12/11/2018 14:37

i do wonder that if it was William rather than Harry who had fallen in love with an American Divorcee would he have been allowed to marry her?

Highly unlikely I'd say, sadly. Those who will never sit on the throne can take far more "liberties" it seems Sad

TattiusTeddius · 12/11/2018 14:39

It's well documented that the Queen and Pip were cold and distant parents - Charles has said as much in interviews.

I think if Andrew were more likeable they'd let him do what he wants. But he really is odious and I think he's doing the gay community a favour by staying in the closet.
