To think if Andrew had been caught cheating instead of Fergie...

...they would have worked it out and still be married?

Speculation about them remarrying has been in the papers again today. I don’t see it happening - but I can’t help thinking they sacrificed their marriage for the public image of the Royal Family. A Royal wife couldn’t be seen to get away with infidelity, even if the marriage was salvageable. However, had Andrew been papped sucking some tart’s toes instead of vice versa, I reckon Fergie would have been forced down the ‘dignified silence’ route - and perhaps the marriage would have survived as a result.

Obviously I know nothing about them personally, and the press picture could be very different to the reality. But I find it interesting to wonder if Fergie paid the price for being a woman and the ‘incomer’ - and indeed, if Andrew also effectively paid the price for his position and public image, whereas a layman might have worked to forgive his wife.

Andrew's daughter looks very much like Porchy's granddaughter ...

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/11/2018 08:47

Yes I noted that fussing over Eugenie. I thought it was sweet.
(And a bit odd that it was him & not Fergie doing it)

Rachelover40 · 11/11/2018 08:50

I agree with you op.

Also I think the pair of them have worked it out and are happily living together.

Good for them.

These gay rumours have been circling for years. Literally, 22 years since I first heard Andrew was gay. IF there was anything to report the Irish, Spanish, Italian, American media would have put it out there quicker than you could say ''oops well everybody knows now''. Only the British media are bound by these instructions on what not to report.

I do think there is pressure on the British media to give the royal family a day to announce their own news. I used to know an Italian who would come out with information about the royal family a day before it was announced.

raisedbyguineapigs · 11/11/2018 08:54

Andrew looks distinctly different to his brothers and sister, who all have Phils features. However I can't believe HM would be stupid enough to fall pregnant by another man, even if she was having an affair.

Jungster · 11/11/2018 09:03

Andrew looks like his mother. He was reasonably good looking once upon a time. I am old enough to remember.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 11/11/2018 09:04

I think Andrew resembles Queen Mary.

Figgygal · 11/11/2018 09:09

I have never heard any suggestion of Andrew being gay
I'm quite shocked at the suggestion it's supposedly such an open secret

Annandale · 11/11/2018 09:18

I do remember the days when it was supposedly obvious that Edward was gay, usually based on homophobic stereotypes such as him being a bit of a dud in the armed forces. After a few decades of heterosexual married life and a couple of kids, nobody seems to say it much any more, because even if he were gay, what does it mean? Given that Andy has several female partners and also two kids who lok remarkably like members of the RF, it sounds unlikely tbh. There are women who only turn to women later in life so perhaps he has discovered something new about himself, but i don't believe it.

longwayoff · 11/11/2018 09:26

I understand that Prince Andrew enjoyed his time in the Navy and has fond memories of those days.

SerenDippitty · 11/11/2018 09:27

Andrew has always been the Queen’s favourite child apparently. She spent much more time with and was more affectionate towards him and Edward than she was with Charles or Anne.

It would not surprise me if Anne were gay.

LuckyDiamond · 11/11/2018 09:31

@Serendippitty

What about Anne is setting your gaydar off?

LuckyDiamond · 11/11/2018 09:33

I understand that Prince Andrew enjoyed his time in the Navy and has fond memories of those days.

No idea why, he was universally hated by his colleagues and treated accordingly. Maybe someone took pity.

VanillaSugary · 11/11/2018 09:36

Anne?

Jungster · 11/11/2018 09:43

yes, the reasons Edward was believed to be gay would sound so archaic now. He wasn't a macho type, he liked theatre. There are plenty of actors who aren't gay. Some are, most aren't. I don't think Anne is gay because she wouldn't have bothered marrying another man if she were gay.

AnnaMagnani · 11/11/2018 09:45

Anne who has been shacked up with Andrew Parker-Bowles for years?

Um, not gay.

DianaT1969 · 11/11/2018 09:46

@Paradyning
I clearly have too much time on my hands, but looked up Lord P's grand-daughter and I think there is a resemblance to Eugenie.

According to her Wikipedia entry she is still with Tim Lawrence. I’m not sure why I thought that about Anne, probably the same reason people thought it about Edward. Her father did say “if it doesn’t fart and eat hay she’s not interested”. Perhaps she wasn’t as Interested in young men as a young woman as some thought she should have been.

Lexilooo · 11/11/2018 09:49

Why on earth would Anne have married a second time if she were a lesbian? She would surely have just stayed single and had some close female friends.

Paradyning · 11/11/2018 09:56

Exactement Diana!

LuckyDiamond · 11/11/2018 10:00

I’d hazard a guess that her father wasn’t referring to his daughter’s sexuality.

LuckyDiamond · 11/11/2018 10:02

As an aside I’ve heard Tim Lawrence is a good guy, again from those who have worked with him.

Can’t imagine Anne having any time for a tosser Grin

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/11/2018 10:03

Mark Phillips though @LuckyDiamond, but she did eventually ditch him. I think his second wife gave him the boot too when he fathered an illegitimate child while married to her.

LuckyDiamond · 11/11/2018 10:12

Well exactly, she ditched him.

longwayoff · 11/11/2018 10:17

Princess Anne? No I think that's a step too far. And the Queen isn't trans.
